Labour wins Peterborough

I will continue to use the word FASCIST because that is exactly what Farage, Bannon, Le Pen, Salvini, AfD, Vox, FPO, SD, Orban, Jansa, all have their ideological roots in the new- Nazi movement.

I shall cease to use the term fascist when someone can prove to me I’m incorrect.

I don'y support the Brexit party, but I dislike intensely the abusive use of the term 'fascists' as applied continually and inappropriately by Whitewave.
But as she takes no notice of anyone's opinion but her own, and has an unshakeable conviction that she is right, it is really rather pointless to waste time disputing, it simply being a tactic to divert opinion away from the abuses perpetrated by the ideologies she affects to support.
Fortunately, most people are able to make their own judgements by using their own intelligence, and don't need to disparage other parties when they do so.

Also the high animal welfare we insist on in the EU (which are still not high enough IMHO) will be torn up and we will be forced to to accept the much lower standards they have in the USA. Chlorinated chicken may not be a health issue, but it should be of concern to those who care about animal welfare.

Urmstongran, in all probability the Farage dictatorship known as the Brexit Party has now passed its "high water mark."

The Peterborough result seems to have confirmed that many in this country are now beginning to
realise that Britain outside Europe will have so much to lose.

Our Health Service will have to be on the negotiating table in trade negotiations. Our vehicle manufacturing industry is already relocating into the body of Europe, and for Britain to stand alone in the commercial world will require large scale cuts in employee rights and protections in almost all industries.

Britain leaving Europe on any terms will have a negative impact on this country. Britain leaving Europe on WTO terms will be nothing short of disastrous for the vast majority of working people in the UK, and only benefiting the few but not the many.

Those who like to number crunch will also remember that the blessed Brexit party polled less than the remain parties and got around 30% of the vote in the EU elections yet supporters on here claimed it as a storming victory (as they got the most seats despite 70% not voting for them and just replicating UKIPs 2014 performance) Now when tables are turned they point out the small number of voters / turnout. Can't have it both ways.

Yes Grandad43 Trump did us a tremendous service mentioning the NHS and concentrated a few minds. I was so pleased when I heard that Labour had won Peterborough, although to hear Humphreys on Today prog you'd think they'd lost!

10,480 people voted Labour in Peterborough yesterday.

22,950 voted Labour in Peterborough in 2017.

I was relieved when I heard that Farage's people had lost the Peterborough by election. Not a fan of Corbyn's Labour but delighted that strongly pro Brexit constituency rejected the Brexit party. Maybe people are beginning to realise the reality of Britain out of the EU

The picture in The Guardian of the Brexit candidate with thumbs down during Lisa Forbes acceptance speech reveals the calibre of the candidate. The usual form is to accept defeat graciously, and take a back seat. He must be taking his lead from his party’s, sorry company’s, leader.

It is a tragedy that those most likely to be adversely affected by Brexit are those who voted for it.

The point of the exercise (by-election) was for Peterborough to choose a new MoP after the last one was jailed. Just where does “fascist party” fit in? Labour have won, not heard the name of the new MP yet, everyone seems to be going on about Nigel Farage’s party having lost. I hope you all enjoy your harping on. FGS.

Farage is on the tv and radio every 5 minutes, just think if Caroline Lucas and the Green Party who have an actual MP had the fawning coverage he gets. Still hopefully he has found his limits as a home for a minority of disgruntled Torykippers, and giving a thin veil of respectability to the far right extremists thug types. Peterborough is leave central so if BP were going to get anywhere it would be here. Farage was getting ready to give a triumphal speech, but good to see him scuttling away via a side door.

I believe that two late factors played into Labour's hands to gain them this victory. The first was Donald Trump's reference to the NHS as having to be on the negotiating table in any trade deal talks with the United States.

The second I believe was the announcement of the closure on the Ford Engine Plant at Bridgend. In that, there will be those who argue that the closure of the plant had little to do with Brexit and the termination of production is due to large-scale changes in the car production industry.

However, it cannot have escaped anyone's notice by now, that while car assembly and component plants are closing in the UK due to their products being no longer required, no new plants for the production of the new Electric and Autonomous vehicles have been announced to the fact they will be built in Britain.

The above is very much down to fears of Britain being outside the European Union in the future I feel.

I also think that the Jeremy Corbyn speech during the Trump visit where he used the theme "They Have No Answers" also played well with many who seen and heard it.

Corbyn at his best on the campaign trail again.

They are a fascist party that is the point of this excercise.

Are Labour actually a Remain party, or hasn't Corbyn made up his mind yet ?
