There may be a shrinking pool of 'EU talent' but there are other countries waiting to take their place. The cost of trade deals outside the EU looks to be more immigration from them.

I don't think that rising salaries in a small section of the construction trade is an indicator of anything but a temporary slowdown in immigration. It'll hot up again if trade deals have to include freer immigration. There's no point in saying that the UK wouldn't countenance that. If we want the trade we'll have to accept terms that may not be altogether palatable. That's what 'deals' are all about. Some loss of 'sovereignty'.

Frank Field is the only MP who has spoken up about the poverty in his constituency but for years on end it's fallen on deaf ears. Those in Westminster just don't want to know sad

Same here in the North West gillybob. It's scandalous and as you said, heartbreaking for families ! No wonder there are 800 children in care in Wirral. People literally can't cope.

Here in the NE we not only have the highest unemployment of the U.K. but we typically earn the least too. It suits Westminster to keep us down “where we belong”. I’m not sure where the jobs are located in the wages highlighted by Urmstongran but I would bet my last pennies that they won’t be in the North East .

I see poverty almost every day when I do the school runs Grany children who’s lives seem almost hopeless and the chances of breaking away are minuscule. It’s heartbreaking .

Our town has always had a labour council which obviously makes them very complacent.

I HAVE tried to stay out of politics but feel I need to highlight Heather Scott’s and Tory hypocrisy in general.

It’s all very well blaming the Labour council (who may have made mistakes) but let’s look at the root cause of cuts to library services, Sure Start centres, public health budgets, NHS services, school budgets etc.

As a GP in Darlington for 33 years I have never seen so much poverty, homelessness, and mental ill health attributable to DWP stopping payments for severely disabled and even dying patients. Some of my patients have been driven to suicide.

The Tory party continue to drive up national health and wealth inequalities, partly by slashing council budgets in the North but still finding money for Tory councils in the South.

Sadly, Tory ideology, unnecessary austerity and capitalist greed have destroyed any semblance of equity in British society, and worse is to come given the quality of candidates they are fielding for prime minister.

The Darlington public who voted for them have been sadly duped by lies yet again (remember Brexit claims of money for NHS etc)

Average pay for a job in construction has increased to £45,900 as advertised vacancies fall, a study suggests.

Rates are even higher for site managers, said recruiters Randstad, with a site manager typically earning £50,500. Site engineer pay jumped 19 per cent to £44,300 and project manager pay rose 8 per cent to £64,200.

Randstad’s Owen Goodhead said: “The shrinking pool of EU talent is driving up pay – that’s the power of supply and demand. Builder Brexodus is the referendum’s inheritance.”

Nigel Farage WAS right. Too many people were chasing too few jobs and driving down pay - this is good news for U.K. workers!
