Leaked e-mails and Farage as replacement?

The leaked e-mails from the British Ambassador criticising Trump have hit the headlines. There is some speculation that this is a put-up job and the aim is to get Nigel as the next Ambassador. Personally I can't think of anything more disastrous, or many people less suitable. No doubt him and Trump would be best mates but should that be the position of a British Ambassador? And can you think of anyone worse than Farage?

Urmstongran Wed 10-Jul-19 16:32:54

Perhaps we should now send Olly Robbins out there instead and tell him ‘now go and do some good!’

suziewoozie Wed 10-Jul-19 17:14:45

Urm ??

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Jul-19 17:21:50

Let’s hope May changes the habit of a life time and acts outside her little box. She could appoint another ambassador of her choosing.

suziewoozie Wed 10-Jul-19 17:47:31

I wonder if she’ll recommend him for a peerage in her resignation honours list? (Sir Kim that is not Trump)

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Jul-19 17:49:47

Sir Trump??????

This idiot thinks ambassadors deal in trade deals

Richard Tice
@TiceRichard

Darroch has finally made the right decision. The Tory Govt look ridiculous for having tried to defend the indefensible. Now it’s time for a pro Brexit businessman to be appointed who can lead a quick US trade deal.

Elegran Wed 10-Jul-19 18:01:59

"The British Ambassador to Washington reported the widely accepted fact that the Trump White House is dysfunctional and incompetent. He would have been derelict in his duty had he not reported that to the government of one of the US’ closest allies.

It is, for example, vital that the defence secretary knows this if he is approached to join the US in a foreign adventure, or for the trade secretary to be wary before we are forced to seek a new trading relationship after Brexit.

As John Crace tweeted about the Darroch affair: “Not quite sure why UK ambassador to US passing on accurate confidential information to his employers is a story. Shouldn’t Mail on Sunday be more horrified that someone leaked this to @IsabelOakeshott.”

How did Oakshott arrive at the decision that to report this was in the national interest?

I seriously question her judgement.

Has anyone seen the spider graph linking her to Farage, Bannon. Trump, Banks, and Johnson amongst others?

suziewoozie Wed 10-Jul-19 18:16:22

I don’t think she has any judgement at all - as for doing anything in the national interest theres only one interest she acts in. The Cameron/pig’s head story was typical of her and I think in the end she had to almost admit that she’d no evidence for it. But even if she had, so what?

Callistemon Wed 10-Jul-19 18:20:10

I still would ask just how secure these diptechs are, as hackers become ever more sophisticated.

Your post shows just who could benefit, Wwm2
The leaked emails are not just recent, apparently over two years and who was Foreign Secretary until 2018?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Jul-19 18:24:11

Darroch resignation is explosive

Sir Alan Duncan, a foreign office minister and Hunt backer, tells BBC:

‘Boris Johnson has basically thrown our ambassador under a bus’

He says the way Boris treated Sir Kim , by refusing to guarantee his future, is ‘contemptible’

suziewoozie Wed 10-Jul-19 18:28:03

The leaked communications range over the last two years. So yes Boris would almost certainly have known of at least the ‘tone’ of them and certainly have been aware of Sir Kim’s views on Trump. I hadn’t thought of that - interesting point Call.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Jul-19 18:33:22

So
@BorisJohnson
happy to shaft
@KimDarroch
when it suited him then ‘reach out to him’ when it suddenly looks like a resignation might damage him. Leaders without moral compass get found out very quickly.

Putin pulling strings again????

Callistemon Wed 10-Jul-19 20:49:38

I don't think so varian (but what do I know)

The links in Whitewave's post were interesting.
Plus Boris having been Foreign Secretary
Plus Trump prefers that Boris becomes PM
hmm

Eloethan Wed 10-Jul-19 21:48:07

Of course, Trump is such a courteous and refined gentleman that he wouldn't dream of making inappropriate and offensive remarks about anybody, so it's no wonder he was so upset.

This is the face of fascism

Anthony Gardner
@tonylgardner

Farage said that anyone in UK civil service or military who doesn’t believe in Brexit should be removed. My jaw dropped. This is outrageous. It is fascistic to apply a single issue to determine “loyalty” as if we were in a war of religion. Shame on him.

Elegran Thu 11-Jul-19 07:45:12

The thinking of a potential dictator - everyone must agree with him. He's been taking lessons from Putin and Trump.

This is a democracy, not a one-party oligarchy led by a supremo. It is more British to say "anyone in UK government who doesn’t believe in freedom of thought and diversity of opinion should be removed." I don't know why the alarm bells haven't been ringing in the ears of every intelligent person in the country.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 11-Jul-19 07:49:22

I think they have elegran it’s the rest of the country that’s bringing about this disaster

Elegran Thu 11-Jul-19 07:55:07

There is great gap in our education system that people reaach adulthood and the vote without being able to assess the candidates up for election or the issues (and dangers) they represent. There is a vast amount of ignorance about our political system, and the consequences of the various ways of running a country.

MaizieD Thu 11-Jul-19 07:55:24

I think this needs a separate thread, WWM2. It's shocking but doesn't have much impact tucked away on P3!!

I wonder if the Faragistas agree with him...

Ginny42 Thu 11-Jul-19 08:00:10

Hope this doesn't sound too simplistic, but can't Oakshott be 'made' to disclose who her informant/s are? She should be made to substantiate her claims.

I woke up this morning c. 5.30 with thoughts spirally in my head about why people can't see the links and the duplicity. I'm no fan of TM, but I'm angry with Trump for his comments about her. 'I told her what to do about Brexit but she didn't listen.' That makes me angry and I hope she appoints a new Ambassador before she leaves office. She won't appoint Farage.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 11-Jul-19 08:03:18

Ill start a new thread

Whitewavemark2 Thu 11-Jul-19 08:21:30

It seems that there is a suggestion that Oakshott will be forced to give up her sources

National Interest

It won’t happen, and even if she did they won’t act because it will be a brexiter and supporter of Johnson

Whitewavemark2 Thu 11-Jul-19 08:24:14

I have actually read more than once that it was Johnson.
