Is this the face of fascism?

Farage said that anyone in UK civil service or military who doesn’t believe in Brexit should be removed. My jaw dropped. This is outrageous. It is fascistic to apply a single issue to determine “loyalty” as if we were in a war of religion. Shame on him.

I have done as you ... requested. My post seems to be a relevant reply to your post. Do you think you should have been clearer perhaps if it is so easy to misunderstand and then difficult to see in what way I misunderstood?

Read it again Ggmk3

I didn't say that at all.

But I did ponder if some who voted Brexit may have read all of Tony Benn's arguments anti-EU and agreed with them.
And have been a staunch Corbyn supporter in his anti-EU days.

Farage and Benn would have made unusual allies but had one common purpose.

MaizieD Fri 12-Jul-19 21:18:11

Glad you enjoyed it, Cal. wink

So what were you saying?

Because if you think that accusations of fascism are just coming from the left wing you're much mistaken.

Callistemon Fri 12-Jul-19 21:10:26

are you trying to say that
Another Maizieism!!
Another gem

grin

MaizieD Fri 12-Jul-19 20:57:24

It's never a good idea to throw out insults to those who may disagree

Oh, FGS. Is isn't an insult, it's a warning.

MaizieD Fri 12-Jul-19 20:55:55

Are you trying to say that those of us who are pointing out that supporting Farage is supporting a fascist are 'from the left of politics' and were anti EU ourselves, Callistomen?

I hope you are not, because you'd be making a very big and mistaken assumption. (We'd have voted Leave if that were the case, wouldn't we?)

Callistemon Fri 12-Jul-19 20:42:40

It's interesting that those who voted Brexit are being aligned with Farage and, ultimately, with supporting fascists.

This is strange as those from the left of politics have also been very anti-EU , in particular Corbyn before he started prevaricating and Tony Benn, who could hardly be accused of being thoughtless or ignorant as he was a very thoughtful and erudite man - and to the left of politics.

It's never a good idea to throw out insults to those who may disagree with you as it demonstrates that you are losing the argument.

maddyone Fri 12-Jul-19 20:25:35

And no, my name is not also Moggie although I have usually owned a cat. Sadly we had to have our last moggie put to sleep a few weeks ago.

maddyone Fri 12-Jul-19 20:22:14

Thank you GG.

mcem Fri 12-Jul-19 20:00:44

No. I won't repeat what I have explained twice, backed by other posters.
Post not poster. Correct use of language. That's it!

GracesGranMK3 Fri 12-Jul-19 19:55:11

Unless your name is also Moggie maddyone, no, I was not talking about you.

It is, of course, open to anyone, to point out any single fact they can find in the post made by Moggie.

maddyone Fri 12-Jul-19 19:51:14

Can you elaborate what exactly your point is please mcem?

maddyone Fri 12-Jul-19 19:49:47

If you are speaking about me GG, I assure you that I have been neither angry nor in my opinion unreasonable. I actually said that I have sympathy ie agree with, much of what mcem actually said. What I took issue with is the manner in which some of the post was written, in particular the words 'ignorant rant.' Now you may think that is perfectly polite, but I beg to differ. Please GG could you direct me to the post where I said I was ready to use my vote to ruin other people's lives. Do you know that I voted remain?

mcem Fri 12-Jul-19 19:16:24

GGmk3 thank you.
My point precisely.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 12-Jul-19 18:53:28

Perhaps someone so keen to leap to the defence of Moggie's argument could give us one "fact" in it that is actually true.

The argument has been attacked, not the person. Surely those who seek to tell us in such an angry and unreasonable way that they are ready to use their vote to ruin other people's lives should be able to substantiate the points clearly and factually.

MaizieD Fri 12-Jul-19 18:15:03

I have no intention of putting up a link as you and others would distort the facts to suit your own agenda.

Such impressive confidence in 'the facts' hmm

mcem Fri 12-Jul-19 17:54:52

maddy I did not 'lose my cool' but wrote a logical and accurate comment about a highly inaccurate post.
Had I addressed the poster as an ignorant fool you'd have a point but as I said before I argued that the post was written in ignorance and I stand by that.
Like others I am entitled to criticise or disagree with a post but that is not the same as being rude to the poster.
Reminds me of pupils who objected to being reprimanded by declaring they'd been 'shouted at' when there had been no raised voices.
I believe it's important to use and understand the meaning of words with a degree of precision.

maddyone Fri 12-Jul-19 17:05:24

I’m glad you asked me for clarification, it shows you care and are not normally rude.
We do all lose our cool sometimes.

maddyone Fri 12-Jul-19 17:03:11

mcem, I have sympathy with much of what you say about the post, but that is not really the point. I said it was rude because it was rude. To call someone ignorant or use the phrase ‘ignorant rant’ is rude and I’m sure you are aware of this and would not say that to someone face to face. I certainly wouldn’t, I might express such an opinion in privacy, but not to someone’s face. Normally your posts are calmly written you say, and I don’t believe I’ve ever felt you had been rude before, so really no need on this occasion either.

petra Fri 12-Jul-19 16:37:54

MaizieD
I have no intention of putting up a link as you and others would distort the facts to suit your own agenda.
All I do know is, more open minded people than yourself and others on here might be interested enough to read these articles.

MaizieD Fri 12-Jul-19 16:16:28

And as you can see nobody wants to know as it might sully the eu's image.

You know, petra, I distinctly recall asking for more information. I don't think you need to check back far to find it. I always assume that if someone tells you something like 'the EU stuffs Africa' that they are able to back it up with some evidence. Give me some links and I'm happy to read them.

Sorry you can't tell the difference between being a fascist and supporting a fascist either.

petra Fri 12-Jul-19 16:09:13

GG13
Your not alone. Many of us have been /will be again, insulted.

minniemoo
Like you I'm very aware of what's going on in Africa. And as you can see nobody wants to know as it might sully the eu's image.
It says something when the eu is making more money selling on the coffee that they buy from Africa than the growers. Then there's the flower/food etc growers, all being stuffed by the eu. But I won't elaborate, don't want to burst anyone's bubble.

MaizieD Fri 12-Jul-19 15:59:08

I AM NOT A FACIST, and feel insulted by you MaizieD

I haven't said that you are a fascist, GG13. Only that you have supported one. There is a difference.

The BP doesn't know that your vote was a protest. They have been emboldened by the fact that so many people did vote for them. Let's hope that you weren't the only person who intends their protest vote to be the only vote they give to the BP...
