Instead of gloom and doom (plenty about) how about we lift our spirits with any good news we hear to cheer us up?
?

As in today:
“THE Wall Street banking giant JP Morgan is about to embark on a major hiring spree in the City, despite Jamie Dimon, the chief executive, previously warning about Brexit job losses.

The growth plans stand in contrast to repeated warnings made by the bank’s boss about the effect Brexit could have on UK staff numbers”

So we are all jolly and excited over sprinkles on lollies and an absolute liability as PM.

Cool!!!!party

That would be truly wonderful news paddyann , don't raise my hopes!! Can't quite see how Wales would manage independently, but perhaps they could. NI could rejoin the South, always surposing they'd have them, after all they should never have been separated in the first place! So happy days and win all round!

paddyann Tue 23-Jul-19 17:21:22

Boris IS good news ..for Independence ,even the Welsh are coming round to leaving the disunited kingdom ..so that will leave England and the Province of NI ...unless they decide to head out too .Independence for England then !!

There's a difference between pessimists and cynics. Pessimists want to protect what is good and to do so they keep the threats in view.

I am going to pinch Gabrielle's info from another thread.

Apparently the pound has spiked since the announcement that BJ is our new PM. Good news. Others have faith that we now might move forward as a nation.

(I am too lazy to go and do my own research at this minute.)

Oh, found this on first search.

The confirmation that Johnson has won the leadership coincides with a tick higher in the value of Pound Sterling; a reaction we saw as being likely, saying earlier in the day that those news publications warning of a crash in the value of the Pound on Johnson's win were way off the mark.

The rally in Sterling appears to be a typical 'sell the rumour, buy the fact' reaction

Day6 you obviously met completely different people from me.
I can however rejoice in my roses which this year are magnificent.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:40:18

I like the ones with "sprinkles" on ???

lemongrove Tue 23-Jul-19 15:38:22

Oooh, I feel a visit to Sainsburys coming on, as I love, love, love their own rocket lollies.?

Day6 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:33:17

Good news. At last we have a Leaver PM to negotiate our exit from the EU.

Everyone I have spoken to whilst out was glad Johnson won.

I'd rather ten Boris Johnson's in number ten than one Jeremy Corbyn!

Also good news, our local Sainsbury's ice cream/ice lolly fridges were being stocked at lunchtime too. We are going to have a bit of proper summer weather for a while. A good excuse to do nothing much at all in this heat and enjoy retirement. sunshine sunshine sunshine

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:17:49

Please can someone point out what is wrong with finding good things in life?

When on earth did being happy with “ones lot” get turned into “trumpism propaganda”?

We are all mature educated women, we are aware that not all in the UK are as fortunate as some, but flipping heck it’s summer, schools out the weather is fabulous and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being cheerful ?????? it is not a criminal offence!!

Chewbacca Tue 23-Jul-19 14:23:11

I do not agree with the premise that everything in the U.K. is marvellous......
Neither do I crystaltipps, neither do I. But I do think, irrespective of the political climate, which side of the political fence each one of us sits on, there is something in the UK to celebrate or appreciate.

I am not going to throw my arm in the air and shout "heil" just because someone tells me how to present my view of politics.

GGMK2 You always give me a laugh with your witty posts! grin

Bridgeit Tue 23-Jul-19 13:39:14

I was just about to post something uplifting, lighthearted & good natured, but then I heard the news about Boris Johnson I don’t know wither to ?or??

crystaltipps Tue 23-Jul-19 11:47:57

I am in no way a “died in the wool pessimist” or a “glass half empty person”, merely because I do not agree with the premise that everything in the U.K. is marvellous, and everything everywhere else is less worthy. I do see quite a lot of positives in life btw.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 11:41:46

I've found this thread quite interesting, if only because its revealed which posters are able to see some positives in life, in an otherwise dangerous and uncertain world, and which posters are died in the wool pessimists; unable to see anything positive in the world and completely determined to suck the joy out of it for anyone else who can.

That is the fake news intended to show, in Trumpian fashion, the "fault" of those who don't agree. I worry about this sort of agreement with obvious propaganda. Why should you be the arbiter of anyone else's life? Why on earth would most people share with those who think only they can be right?

I am not going to throw my arm in the air and shout "heil" just because someone tells me how to present my view of politics.

Chewbacca Tue 23-Jul-19 11:36:32

Ah well, have a nice day, whatever plans you have made. I hope your glass remains half full.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 11:33:10

Chewbacca, you obviously only read what you want something to say - it was totally political as the example shows and yes, it does mention "sodding Brexit".

If you put up a political post on a politics thread you cannot then tell people how they must apply themselves to it. That is far, far too dictatorial and I agree with Lessismore very fake.

To give the OP the benefit of the doubt (although I have no idea why we should) it was, at the very least, confused.

Lessismore Tue 23-Jul-19 11:21:31

btw, the word Brexit is mentioned in the opening post by the OP, which would suggest some sort of connection?

Lessismore Tue 23-Jul-19 11:17:46

No it doesn't at all. It shows a bright and breezy " I'm alright Jack" attitude, rather fake in my opinion.

It also shows some quiet and thoughtful souls who are worried about the future.

Nobody can suck the joy from another human being, neither in the real world or the virtual world. If somebody had such power it would be an amazing thing.

Chewbacca Tue 23-Jul-19 11:08:16

Now, try as I might and I've really given it a go I can't find anything in the opening OP that hints at, or alludes to, sodding Brexit. I read it that the OP was hoping that posters could relay or pass on any pleasant or uplfting news, about the UK, I didn't see any "veiled" or subliminal messages at all.

I've found this thread quite interesting, if only because its revealed which posters are able to see some positives in life, in an otherwise dangerous and uncertain world, and which posters are died in the wool pessimists; unable to see anything positive in the world and completely determined to suck the joy out of it for anyone else who can.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 23-Jul-19 11:01:36

This thread was set up to fail in order to place people in poor light so they could be called "wasps in an apple", gloom buckets, etc.

The OP is a political statement and there are always two sides (at least) to any political viewpoint. Today I hear some think we may be going into recession. So, it was seen either, as I say, to give some very rude, arrogant and disrespectful people (see, we can all play that game) a chance to be rude, arrogant and disrespectful of others views or it was set up from a far-right, rather fascist point of view to tell us how to think.

I think some of the personal achievements and loves of our country are wonderful but this was set up, in the OP, as a fallacious argument to persuade people all the problems of Brexit, all the dreadful lives some people are living, are all the fault of those who draw attention to them.

Gransnetters are simply not that stupid folks.

Rowantree Tue 23-Jul-19 10:48:47

Well, there are more people recognising that climate change is happening and they are trying to do something about it on a personal level. It might be too little too late or it might make a difference but it's heartening to see some communities making that effort - for instance to avoid single-use plastic, making do with what they already have and not rushing out to upgrade or buy latest models of this and that. I'm ashamed that it took me so long to up my game but I am trying very hard now! Who said 'make do and mend' was history?

lemongrove Tue 23-Jul-19 10:44:46

At a great pub in the UK.
Pubs in the UK are great, in or out of the EU btw.

lemongrove Tue 23-Jul-19 10:43:15

☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ a wonderful sunny day! grin Am off to meet GN friends for a leisurely pub lunch.

crystaltipps Tue 23-Jul-19 10:21:44

I think the veiled message behind the OP and the reason why it’s in the news and politics forum is to get people to believe the idea that Brexit is great for the U.K. and anyone who doesn’t believe in the dream is a gloom-monger or worse part of the swamp and should be eliminated. I’m sure most of us have personal reasons to be happy, but imho that’s not the objective of this thread.

MaizieD Tue 23-Jul-19 10:06:00

It's not a thread about good news in the UK. It's about good news about the UK. Personal triumphs (not denigrating yours, Tigertooth, I think it's a fantastic achievement) and pleasures are just that, personal. They're not about the UK as a whole.
