I thought this was a good news group, not for someone to have a go at a pet hate. Sorry, but everything has a place, and a place for everything, especially on a Saturday morning.
Is democracy being by-passed in favour of the billionaires?
Instead of gloom and doom (plenty about) how about we lift our spirits with any good news we hear to cheer us up?
?
As in today:
“THE Wall Street banking giant JP Morgan is about to embark on a major hiring spree in the City, despite Jamie Dimon, the chief executive, previously warning about Brexit job losses.
The growth plans stand in contrast to repeated warnings made by the bank’s boss about the effect Brexit could have on UK staff numbers”

our "beloved queen" ( not in my house) is set to add hundreds of millions to her bank account ...may not be good news about the UK but its good news for her! Sales of seabed licenses are underway ..in Scottish waters ..by Westminster and good old Lizzie reaps the benefit as apparently SHE owns the seabed.Couldn't make it up could you ? How much help would all that extra cash be to people who need it?Instead our current selection of inbreds and wanna be's will get the benefits that should belong to the country .NOT being nationalist here. I'd rather it went to the whole UK than Lizzies mob!Although my preference would be it stays where it belongs in Scotland !!
I agree GrannyGravy. long distance animal transports are one of the cruellest effects of modern farming. European animals really need the UK's vote for their welfare and protection.
I am hoping that when we leave the EU we can stop shipping live animals to Europe, this is totally unacceptable in 2019.
UK farm animal welfare is the best in Europe, and if we leave the Community we wont be able to vote to for improved animal welfare.
Mint julep mmmm?
And mojitos!
?
Grandad sounds as if you are having a great time, we always try and watch Andre Rieu concerts on tv around Christmas time, feet up and a glass of wine to hand, soon gets you in the Christmas spirit.
I always grow mint Maw I need it for the Pimms as well as lamb. ?
If we have a run on mint sauce it might cause panic buying jura2
?
Grow the mint and make your own!
Do stockpile mint sauce though- we will run out very quickly.
Day6: Most people are outraged that our politicians seem to be working within the Westminster bubble, and have forgotten the people who elected them
Actually, this is totally the contrary. They are fighting Brexit- despite knowing it is damaging their career and a lot more - knowing full well that it is those who voted for and are now insisting we get Brexit, and a very hard, No Deal Brexit at that, which was NEVER EVER on the cards - will be the ones to suffer the consequences the most. THAT is the responsible and honourable thing to do, and takes massive guts, courage and honesty.
That was for Lessismore
Excellent
Day6: Most people are outraged that our politicians seem to be working within the Westminster bubble, and have forgotten the people who elected them
I believe this is true, but how is leaving the EU going to change this for the better? For years to come there will be so many trade negotiations to arrange between the UK and the rest of the world that the 'people' will continue to be forgotten.
You don't have to pay for a toilet? Wow I feel so proud to be British.
Noticeable that most of these 'good news' posts are not about good news about the UK at all, but are about some individuals' personal cheerfulness..
My 'good news for the UK today is that some of our national institutions still have an interest in upholding democracy by the elimination of cheating and illegality in order to affect a democratic vote..
Members of the elections watchdog the Electoral Commission, gave evidence to the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Sub-Committee on Disinformation yesterday, as a Freedom of Information request was published showing the full scope of its recommendations to the Brexit Party following its recent investigation into its funding.
It showed the extra information the party’s funding system would require in order to ascertain the permissibility of a donor.
This, of course, implies that this identifying information was lacking during the European Elections and, indeed, is lacking now
The Brexit Party is now required to check these historical donations for permissibility.
This means it did not systematically check for permissibility at the time and, as 30 days have elapsed on the vast majority of these donations, laws have likely already been broken on a pretty vast scale.
Going back and checking now will not unbreak these laws.
The Electoral Commission will be well aware that it must enforce these laws impartially..

I just hope this one has teeth...
Yet more from those who want only to uproot and change this country completely complaining about other people, who have said nothing detrimental but just have a different view of politics. The inference is, yet again that we don't love our country if we don't see everything from their point of view and that we leave if we don't see thing as they do - very Trumpian and very far-right!
I appreciate that currently this is only a suggestion but who knows when the trucks will arrive to round us up? I love a great deal about this country but I am not going to change my mind about people being pushed into poverty or parliaments sovereignty being overturned. Fascism is alive and well it seems, and yes, I do feel threatened by some posts. Grandad, I suggest you stay where you are made welcome and not "othered" in this way.
We went to see Andre Rieu in Maastricht two years ago, when The Hoff turned up as a surprise guest (he is loved over there!) Grandad is right, I think we had at least 27 nations represented, just there to enjoy the music and fun. Andre and his singers emerged from the town hall where they had got changed and stood there for about 10 minutes chatting and having photos taken wth the crowd. For some reason he assumed I was Spanish!

Nothing's perfect. That's why there's always room for improvement.
Amazing coincidence - your name, last poster...
ah well, looks like lamb will be VERY cheap soon
The concert sounds lovely grandad, enjoy and have a wine or two for us on gransnet. ?
That sounds wonderful Grandad.
Our social secretary suggested going to see an Andre Rieu concert on the continent as she has heard similar rave reviews. "It's all about the atmosphere!" she tells us. Glad you are enjoying it.
If everything is so marvellous here one wonders why people who voted Brexit were so dissatisfied....the scenery is the same, museums, beaches, etc
