I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

It was a cracking speech ! He showed more oomph in those few minutes than TM showed throughout her entire time as PM. Old Jezza will definitely be behind the eight ball now trying in vain to oppose grin

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:49:47

Day6 agreed ?????

Greta Tue 23-Jul-19 15:47:01

I thought BJ's speech was exactly what one would expect of him. I can't see how 'dude' was in any way clever. I know several very dignified eighty year olds who wouldn't dream of using such silly language on such an important occasion. When will BJ understand that he has left the playground of Eton, it's time to grow up. I guess none of us can change our character/personality so I don't think there is much hope that BJ will. The difficulty is that he now has to at least try to behave more like a statesman.

Well said Day 6! ??

Day6 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:45:41

how can anybody be glad such a total waste of space, who can’t put two words together without putting his big foot in it is a good idea for the country

Well the alternative is Marxist Corbychov and his mates. Jezza can't speak in the HOC without notes, he was a Eurosceptic and spoke out against the EU for most of his political life, yet now he leads a Labour "Everything Is Awful" Party that has decided to Remain, and abandon their traditional working class voters.

I think the opposition far left alternative is a much more frightening prospect than BJ. It doesn't bear thinking about. We'd be in debt to everyone, including handing over billions every year to the EU, and the poor old worker would be paying for it! And they wonder why after every Labour government, the opposition win and have to have a belt-tightening policy to get us back on course!

Now we'll watch Corbyn and co try to put a spoke in every one of the new PM's wheels. I fear for the country if Corbyn and his band of Marxists opposes Brexit. The Labour Party might as well fold.

Contrary to what some people think, the £ has spiked since Boris became PM.

Sara65 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:43:23

I really, really dislike the thought of a Corbyn led government, but I think it’s a less scary prospect than a Boris led government, and that’s from a life long (but now ex) conservative voter

Ilovecheese Tue 23-Jul-19 15:35:33

RosieLeah the majority of Tory MPs did not support him, the majority of the Tory membership did. Not the same thing.

BlueBelle Tue 23-Jul-19 15:30:00

Oh dear how can anybody be glad such a total waste of space, who can’t put two words together without putting his big foot in it is a good idea for the country Only consolation is I don’t think he ll last five minutes
I do not wish him well I wish he’d fly away with all the others and I wish we could have some real people to choose from

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 15:28:56

they say what a lot of people are thinking!

Though fortunately not what the majority think.

RosieLeah Tue 23-Jul-19 15:26:00

Such negative reactions! Yet there was no doubt about his being voted into office...he got an overwhelming majority of the votes. Therefore the majority of Tory MPs have faith in him. Jeremy Hunt lost a lot of support when he mentioned fox-hunting...do we really want our country ruled by someone who supports deliberate cruelty to animals? Trump and Johnson have at least one thing in common...they say what a lot of people are thinking! Yes, his reference to 'letter-boxes' was rather crude...but, be honest, wasn't he simply saying what many of us think?

Day6 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:23:17

I am glad Boris won. I hoped he would.

I thought his acceptance speech was very good. He was far from an 'embarrassment.' (I think left wingers are so easily embarrassed - they must be.) I was quite surprised that he sounded very decisive. He was gracious to Hunt (who was wonderful in defeat) and to Theresa May.

I also liked his DUDE theme. I hope for us to be out of the EU by Oct 31st. We'll see how it unfolds. I don't envy him. The knives were out long before he took office.

If he stops pussyfooting around with the EU and makes it plain that we hold the cards they want, I'll be happy. May tried to negotiate by conceding and making us an EU puppet. Johnson won't go down that road, and for that alone I am grateful.

I wish him well.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 23-Jul-19 15:19:00

Charelygirl, I am with you on your statement. Hopefully, someone will call no confidence by the end of the week and it could all kick off before they go away for their summer jollies. Wouldn't it be lovely if May in her departing speech said, oh by the way I have revoked article 50. We now, for the time being have Trumps twin as PM. God help us all.

SisterAct Tue 23-Jul-19 15:18:51

NiceNanny. You say May ?. Not sure Boris any better been sacked for ?in the past.

Poppyred totally agree ?. Don’t know who I’d vote for if a general election ???

soop Tue 23-Jul-19 15:17:42

Save our souls! I am mortified.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 23-Jul-19 15:16:16

I don't know what to think really, I'm just hoping he can pull something out of the hat.

Gonegirl Tue 23-Jul-19 15:15:49

trisher it was funny in a lighthearted way, which I appreciate you don't do.

Poppyred Tue 23-Jul-19 15:09:40

Not as scary as having Jeremy Corbin as PM!

diathena1 Tue 23-Jul-19 14:50:02

First post, but what immediately sprang to mind was 'Abandon hope all ye who enter here' (Dantes Inferno). Absolutely scary for our children and grandchildren.

crystaltipps Tue 23-Jul-19 14:32:16

Wonder how low the £ will sink. Glad I’ve got some €s.

trisher Tue 23-Jul-19 14:18:47

Gonegirl That is so wrong trisher. It was just Boris being Boris. That was exactly what I said at 12.41. You thought it was a good speech and DUDE was clever. It wasn't. It may appeal to some older members of his audience who think it's funny and trendy. It isn't. I do think he can be funny and wish he'd stuck to HIGNFY

SirChenjin Tue 23-Jul-19 14:12:41

% rate?? Don't bother him with mere details - we have to focus on the enormous wealth, oppurtunity and general greatness that Brexit will bring as we MUGA! (Hats now available to buy on Morecrapfromjohnson.com)

GabriellaG54 Tue 23-Jul-19 14:04:29

At what %rate will the borrowing, to finance the schemes he has in mind, be?

GabriellaG54 Tue 23-Jul-19 14:02:07

Thatcher, Blair Major May...(in no particular order) if it were possible, would you prefer any of these?
There have been plenty of derogatory comments about their various roles both pre and post PM.

westendgirl Tue 23-Jul-19 14:02:05

Sorry my first comment was just for Gone girl
