I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

"There would be 3 options.
1) Remain
2) Leave with or without a deal
3) Do not leave without a deal.
People who want Brexit would be split.
But they already are split, on Deal or No Deal. If those who promoted Brexit had thought alittle about how to achieve it, they should have worked out the best way to make their dream reality, and laid some groundwork, before jumping in head-first, with their plans at half-cock (or ba' heidit, as they say in Scotland- meaning either bald-headed or maybe balls-headed, take your pick).
" On the other hand what would people like Jo Swinson and others who want another referendum do if Remain still lost"-
Jo Swinson and Caroline Lucas have stated they ' will not' accept ' ANY ' amount of referendums that return a ' Leave' vote.
Re Boris. Around 94,000 conservative party members voted for him, hardly a huge mandate!
So that's how the system works here, EthelJ. You need to campaign against the system if you don't like it.
If they had another referendum it would be fixed
ie

Why don’t folk wait to see what happens in October ?
Why cross bridges before we need to?
We can’t do anything so we have to let those who may be able to, to get on with it.
On 1st November if things don’t work out ,then the pessimists can say”I told you so.”
We who still have faith that something can be done however will not gloat when Boris does work miracles
Enjoy the summer.
Get up aff yer knees, gonegirl You're wearing out the carpet.
Here is an over-eighty who saw just what you meant, and you weren't saying that this is how over-eighties behave, but that this is how the stereo picture of an eighty-year-old is seen. It was a metaphor for pity's sake, but those are not well understood by the literal-minded.
That carpet has to last you until you are 93, don't abuse it.
Poppyred - you need to see the recent John Major interview on Hard Talk. His passion for this country & his common sense was actually very moving. Opposite end of the scale to Boris, who surely any sensible person can see right through.

"However, the appointment of Rees Mogg as Leader of the House does demonstrate I feel that his already poor judgment has deteriorated rather than improved with becoming Prime Minister.
Jacob Rees Mogg is nothing short of a total Brexit joke."--

Johnson has appointed Rees-Mogg (and some others) in attempt to undermine the Brexit Party.-

You never know,he might now have a reason to 'grow up'-
I have been watching Jacob Rees Mogg as Leader of the House ' Live ' in Parliament on BBC Parliament , have any of you had the opportunity?
He is doing a good job and knows his onions which is refreshing and try as they might he is giving as good as he gets, perhaps his ' give ' is more polite than those who initiated the need.
Bercow will no doubt be cock a hoop.
I am now on my knees and out of my head with sorrow at all the offence I have caused to the over eighties on GN. (Not)
I was defending the way Boris acts and makes speeches. (Before he was PM that is). I plucked an age, any age, out of thin air. My point was, I didn't/don't see why he should be expected to behave in a particularly staid and heavy manner all the time. I AM NOT SAYING OVER EIGHTIES BEHAVE LIKE THAT.
#lastword
God! You don't give up do you? Respect!
Callistemon, I fuly understood Gonegirl's intimation that 80 year olds behave in a certain way - we don't ! No idea what Tillybelle said - I must have missed her post. I would not post any nasty remarks about anyone myself; I was just making a point.
You never know,he might now have a reason to 'grow up' he might surprise us all- certainly cant do any worse than all the others before him,we hope!He might be the 'trojan horse' of the conservative party...

westendgirl, Cummings has already taken control.
He has produced over 500 versions of a social media page promoting Johnson and has already started harvesting people's details by bombarding their Facebook pages. He did the same thing with VoteLeave. He has also started trolling sites with bots.
Entryists have also started deselecting Tory Remain MPs, who will be replaced by Brexiters.
The Tories are gearing up for a General Election, because they are perfectly aware that they can't get Parliament to agree to leave with its current make up.
It was Cummings who dreamt up the slogan "Take back control". What he really meant was "Give HIM control"
I believe in democracy, which is precisely why there should be a second referendum to make sure that the current electorate is still in favour of leaving, given that:
1 the demographics have changed;
2 it's now clearer what Leave actually means.
Those in favour of democracy have nothing to fear.

not all in the USA are in favour of Boris, for sure ...
Hattiehelga how would entering into a discussion with you on this thread about over eighties being past it (which btw I most certainly didn't mean) be anything at all about "So, it's Boris"?
Start another thread under a more appropriate forum?
jura, very interesting and erudite.
Sandiee 'Jura2 Please explain "that those who voted 'Leave'
will be the very ones to suffer most"' ...
those in industry who jobs will go, with none to replace them - including the 1000s who have already lost their job since the Ref- those in Wales and the NE, those in farming which is going to be decimated. No Urmstongran, not necessarily the 'poor' as you abjectly call them - many had great jobs in the car industry, many farmers made a very good living ...
Your strerotypes don't do your cause any favours, for sure.
So many defeatists.
Why be negative?
Would you rather have Jeremy Corbyn or Jo Swinson as PM who would ignore the previous referendum and have another one?
Maybe some people who do not believe in democracy would
I certainly wouldn’t
If you want to blame anyone for this debacle, blame Cameron
Anyone else worried about Dominic Cummings taking charge, which he will .
unemployment has fallen
But, according to the RW posters on here, crafty, we don't have any unemployment (there is never 100% employment, before they start quoting actual %ages at me). So there's not much that Johnson & his spivs can do about that..
Trump has illegal immigrant families separated at the border and locks them away in cages in appalling conditions. Is that the sort of thing of 'getting things done' that you're thinking of?
this woman truly makes sense, we are in real danger

Please please someone enlighten me as to this " get things done" and " tells it how it is".
