In his statement Johnson underlined his pledge to ditch the Irish backstop, and ramp up preparations for no deal, and to leave on 31st October regardless of what happens.

Mays withdrawal agreement has been binned, however in a phone call Juncker signalled the EU27s intention of sticking with the deal already negotiated by the British Government. This includes the backstop.

Juncker told Johnson that the EU would be prepared to alter the political declaration.
Ireland has declared itself as “alarmed”
Barnier signalled that Johnson’s rhetoric almost certainly meant that the U.K. was going into a GE.

Expect a huge public information campaign and a large level of spending in preparation for no deal.

and there's more..'.Extracts from an infamous audio tape in which a youthful Boris Johnson discusses a plan to have a tabloid journalist beaten up are to be broadcast tomorrow for the first time.
Johnson, now mayor of London and chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), can be heard agreeing to help his fellow Old Etonian, Darius Guppy, obtain the personal details of a News of the World journalist, Stuart Collier.
Collier had been asking questions about Guppy, who talked of hiring a contact from south London to assault the journalist.
The extracts will be aired in a Channel 4 Dispatches programme, The Trouble With Boris, which its producers say raises serious questions about the mayor'...no wonder he doesn't like Ch4 !

Perhaps you will be accused of not living in the 21st century too Labaik

SirChenjin Fri 30-Aug-19 17:39:03

If previous posters are going to claim that BJ effortlessly combines parenting mumble mumble number of children with being a PM then you should expect people to laugh

Labaik Fri 30-Aug-19 17:36:14

Call me old fashioned but I do like the people that are in charge of this country to have a certain amount of morality. The fact that Johnson is a known liar and philanderer does not fill me with confidence in the man.

lemongrove Fri 30-Aug-19 17:24:22

Well, if you want to sound like the Daily Mail or Sun ( which I doubt you do want) carry on with the slurs about a politician’s
Children calling him a selfish bastard etc etc.and not wanting to know him.
He’s not my choice as PM but I draw the line at that for any
Politician.
It’s not relevant to the thread either.
Does being in the 21st century mean sinking to a low level?
I would rather discuss the things Johnson is doing/not doing as PM.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 30-Aug-19 17:13:47

Oh dear lemon we are now in the 21st century or hadn’t you noticed?

lemongrove Fri 30-Aug-19 17:13:26

Are posters sinking so low that they can only say things such
As ‘it’s well known what his children think of him’?
How about staying with the politics.
In any case, nobody knows what all Johnson’s children think of their father.

lemongrove Fri 30-Aug-19 17:10:30

motherhood changes women, fatherhood....not so much.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 30-Aug-19 16:16:09

labaik I read that. It is well known what his children think of him.

Elegran Fri 30-Aug-19 16:11:40

To be accurate, Firecracker, "allegedly" means that someone else may have made it up, and Labaik is just repeating it.

If Labaik just made it up" there would be no tracer of that quote anywhere. Try putting into a search engine the words Boris chldren selfish and bastard and you will find countless references to them saying exactly that.

I hope you are not calling Labaik a liar?

Firecracker123 Fri 30-Aug-19 15:39:27

Allegedly... meaning you just made it up ?

Labaik Fri 30-Aug-19 12:31:07

And supposedly his legitimate children have said he's a 'selfish bastard' and won't have anything to do with him [allegedly....]

SirChenjin Fri 30-Aug-19 12:06:03

Funny how Johnson manages to combine being PM with parenthood

It's funny all right grin - the man isn't even sure how many children he has.

FarNorth Fri 30-Aug-19 11:53:28

RD popular?? gringringrin

GrannyGravy13 Fri 30-Aug-19 10:40:04

Five children, our own business, Parents abroad, we managed it. RD just wants out!

trisher Fri 30-Aug-19 10:23:35

I think Ruth Davison may well have her eye on the future. Step back now and stay out of the disputes. Come back in 2025 when son is at school and run for leadership? She's young and popular enough to do it.

POGS Fri 30-Aug-19 10:14:47

Sigh

crystaltipps Fri 30-Aug-19 07:57:10

Funny how Johnson manages to combine being PM with parenthood...

crystaltipps Fri 30-Aug-19 06:22:34

Yes I believe Ruth D when she said one of the reasons she resigned was to concentrate on motherhood. But does anyone believe that it is mere coincidence that she resigned the day after Johnson’s anti democratic suspension of parliament to which she was strongly opposed? If so, you truly are gullible or maybe just have the rose tinted Brexit specs on. Ditto those who choose to believe Johnson’s move has nothing to do with Brexit, just “normal procedure”..

Labaik Fri 30-Aug-19 01:01:33

...that she's stupid and guillible….[he told Gina Miller that he wouldn't prorogue parliament...]

varian Thu 29-Aug-19 21:04:55

I never thought that Ruth Davidson was either stupid or guillible,

What do we make of her statement that she looked Boris Johnson in the eye and actually believed him when he told her that he was trying to get a deal with the EU?????

lemongrove Thu 29-Aug-19 20:19:58

I like the directness of Ruth Davidson, but understand completely that she needs more time with her baby.
The person in her job needs to have the time and energy ( as she used to have) to boost Conservative seats in Scotland.

POGS Thu 29-Aug-19 19:49:30

I still like Ruth Davidson and I like the main reason why she is standing down as Leader to concentrate on her new child and family.

What is the problem with putting the love of your family before your job and cutting down your work load?

I believe what she said and others will no doubt will not, plain and simple really.

POGS Thu 29-Aug-19 19:42:27

humptydumpty Thu 29-Aug-19 11:27:33

"POGS give it a rest. We have all heard the argument trotted out in the last 24h that this is normal practice before QS etc. etc."
----

Not another one!!!. Why are you people so rude.

I will post when, what and how I choose and you will not stop me, certainly not by rudeness.

If you look at the amount of times I have posted on this thread compared to many others I think telling me to ' give it a rest' is a bloody cheek by the way.

Labaik Thu 29-Aug-19 18:09:03

'Its good to know there are still some MPs who are willing to do what ever it takes to restore and respect democracy in the U.K.' How is closing down parliament 'respecting democracy'? pray tell. He's also prepared to lie and cheat. Assured Gina Miller he would not close down parliament. Has now assured Ruth Davidson he's trying to get a deal. He hardly now knows how to tell the truth these days [if he ever did, that is...].
