So, what do we all think is going to be in said leaflet hmm ?

Lessismore Thu 01-Aug-19 20:26:14

Oh and please direct us all to my previous lies, Many Thanks

Lessismore Thu 01-Aug-19 20:01:44

petra ,absolutely no need for the " another lie" comment.

My error, I was confused after talking to friends who have somewhere in the region of £5.00 per week to cover costs.

The figure of £36.95 per week is to cover all living expenses and so there is very very little left.

petra Thu 01-Aug-19 19:28:19

Lessismore
they exist on about £5 per week
Another lie. From the Guardian. Asylum seekers are entitled to support in the form of housing and an allowance of £36.95 per week

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 19:16:25

I respect your views varian and we’ll no doubt meet in combat again!

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 19:13:49

Sorry I called you pants. It is quite common on GN for usernames to be abbreviated but in future I will call you pantglas1

I am a happy person most of the time but I love my children and grandchildren and there has been a huge cloud over their future since the fraudulent referendum of 2016.

Like most of the UK population, I will be much happier when we manage to Revoke Article 50 and Remain in the EU

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 19:05:55

I was out of the country on the day the vote took place and although I could have applied for a postal vote I was undecided and happy to go with the majority (without whinging of course).

Happy people accept different viewpoints from their own without resorting to calling them derogatory names..... like pants?

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 19:01:40

How do you think you know whether or not I am either retired and/or happy pants ?

I think you make too many assumptions about poeple you don't know.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 18:59:40

Are you saying that you did not vote either way in the fraudulent referendum pants?

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 18:58:06

Woah varian - two mistakes off the top of your head.
One that I voted and second that I voted leave.

I made two assumptions about you. One that you were retired and the second that you were happy- only one of mine was wrong.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 18:53:39

Don't you realise pants that for more than three years the government has "got on with it"

No-one in the UK mattered apart from the 17.4m people like you (out of a population of more than 66m) who voted leave
Every thing has been about you and your (ill-advised leave vote).

We have now got to the point where it is perfectly clear to anyone who has paid attention that -

you were manipulated and fooled by the Leave Liars

"cake and eat it brexit" was never going to happen

any kind of brexit would irrevocably damage our country

a so called "no-deal brexit"would destroy the lives and prospects of our children and grandchildren for at least fifty hears, reduce the UK to a laughable ghost of the significant state we are now as important members of the EU

and

fortunately, in spite of the relentless propaganda by the right-wing pro-brexit media, most British people realise this and want to Remain in the EU.

Shoequeen53 Thu 01-Aug-19 13:47:29

I comfort myself that if we manage to get the Tories out soon, that will pretty much be the end of them. They know it too which is why they’re becoming increasingly reckless. They’re drinking in the last chance saloon and getting drunker by the day.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 13:17:11

I’ve absolutely no idea GracesGranMK3 - it appals me that politicians (all of them - I hold no truck with one side good, t’other side bad) can behave in such a cavalier manner with our future.

They promised a vote and said they act on it. They have then proceeded to spend millions wasting money instead of getting on with it. And here we are.....

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 13:14:56

It was not a disgrace for £9m to be spent explaining the benefits of our EU membership to the public in 2016. It was absolutely necessary to attempt to balance the anti-leave propaganda in the media which had been so prevalent for years.

Apparently the cost of this tax-payer funded propaganda campaign has now risen to £130m - an absolute disgrace.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 01-Aug-19 13:10:31

Realistically Varian, you can’t honestly believe that it cost £9million to send out one leaflet to each household in the Uk in 2016 and the price has since rocketed to £100 million three years later? All regardless of which side is wasting the money?

What a strange post. I know we all expect people to behave as we do Pantglas1 but Varian isn't making this up. These are the figures the Government has issued, the money they have put aside for this - or is them you are accusing? Perhaps you would like to explain why the figure has "rocketed" in this way.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-19 13:09:36

Gone up to £130 million now.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 13:08:37

That was my point Varian - neither action was necessary or could be justified. It was a disgrace when the remainers did it and it is a disgrace when leavers do it - but you seemed only to think the latter.

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 12:58:57

I'm finding your posts incomprehensible pantglas

Why do you assume I don't know about the "happily retired"?

Obviously if a leaflet to all households cost £9m in 2016, a budget of £100m for something similar in 2019 would be absurd and we should be asking how it can be justified. No-one else seems to need this point explained.

Pantglas1 Thu 01-Aug-19 12:44:36

And the happily retired Varian ... oh wait but I wouldn’t expect you to know about that!

Realistically Varian, you can’t honestly believe that it cost £9million to send out one leaflet to each household in the Uk in 2016 and the price has since rocketed to £100 million three years later? All regardless of which side is wasting the money?

Where are we Venezuela?

varian Thu 01-Aug-19 11:31:23

Thank you Nandalot for explaining to pantglas the difference between £9m and £100m, something which most self-employed, employed and unemployed people would certainly understand.

Lessismore Thu 01-Aug-19 11:25:30

I don't think there are many so called " scroungers" Asylum seekers are not allowed to work. They exist on about £5.00 a week.

It makes me sick that people in their ivory towers are so proud of their hard work. Not everybody has the same opportunities.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-19 11:16:45

And this pretty much describes my feelings

I'm not a Proud Remainer - I'm a scared shitless, anxiety ridden, angry to the point of warfare, embarrassed, ashamed and bewildered Remainer #Brexitchaos

I'm ashamed of my country for what it has done. It’s torn people apart… I am sick to death of politicians, especially British politicians. I am sick to death of Brexit. I am a European. I am not a stupid, colonial, imperialist English idiot.” #eltonjohn

Shoequeen53 Thu 01-Aug-19 10:58:37

Good luck to “scroungers”, the hoops you have to jump through to get benefits sieve most of those out. And do you really begrudge basic necessities for people facing death or torture in their home country? Yes, I’m sure those people “love it”.

Interestingly the amount of unclaimed benefits significantly outstrips those claimed fraudulently.

Pantglas1 Wed 31-Jul-19 18:09:49

I’m not sure either group ‘love’ it - must be irritating to have to jump through all those hoops to get whatever benefits they’re entitled to receive.

Lessismore Wed 31-Jul-19 18:04:42

But what about scroungers and asylum seekers? Its not awful for them because they love it.
