Isn't it marvellous that Prince Harry has sought to share his thoughts on climate change, by giving a "barefoot speech" No me neither confused in front of a load of grandstanding c'lebs worthy and notable high profile people in Sicily. As a lesser mortal I'm so grateful that these up their own backside individuals, amazingly aware and magnanimous folk are there to give us guidance on looking after our planet. I'm just wondering about the 114 private jets parked up on a runway somewhere in though Sicily shock Oh never mind minor detail!

Good point, Gonegirl

Gonegirl Thu 01-Aug-19 10:22:37

I think it's good that Harry has said they will have no more than two children. He's walking the walk there at least. Let's hope he's an example to others.

And God help Kate if she has another. grin

Gonegirl Thu 01-Aug-19 10:20:04

Merlot - We don't pay for their lavish, hypocritical lifestyles.

Really?!! If we don't our grandchildren certainly wil,l in terms of planet destruction.

merlotgran Thu 01-Aug-19 10:19:29

It's a whole new language to me.

I thought 'woke' meant your alarm had just gone off.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-19 10:19:14

Why Sicily? most named are Americans and why a speech on Nelson Mandela

gillybob Thu 01-Aug-19 10:18:23

Annie I think it is a term used to mean humility . Could be wrong though.

merlotgran Thu 01-Aug-19 10:17:32

So which royal prince will be putting on some wellies and heading off to Yorkshire?

My money's on Prince Charles.

TerriBull Thu 01-Aug-19 10:17:01

.............hope he didn't have any verrucas, or ingrowing toenails NASTY! as POTUS is frequently heard to declare!.......or rough skin on his heels, if you do have the latter Harry, CCS cream from Boots, really good I can vouch for it, run it past Meghan first though grin

gillybob Thu 01-Aug-19 10:14:20

Please don't give up Beckett. It was obvious that the thread would highlight the sheer hypocrisy of all of these "celebs" traveling in their super yachts and private jets to a climate change conference. You couldn't make it up.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-19 10:10:52

What is a barefoot speech ? A bare brain speech ?

TerriBull Thu 01-Aug-19 10:10:38

..........was he actually bare footed? I mean what about the "bear necessities" flip flops at least shock ethically sourced of course.

Barefoot speech bizarre confused.........and your point is????

merlotgran Thu 01-Aug-19 10:06:25

Oh, silly me. I thought it meant he wasn't wearing anything on his feet. blush

Being hot in Sicily an all that.

TerriBull Thu 01-Aug-19 09:55:33

Will someone please, please explain to moi, what a "barefoot speech" is I assume he wasn't doing a Sandy Shaw, if anyone remembers her, days when little old us actually won the European Song Contest, instead of coming last sigh! Anyway, I digress, if he was indeed bare foot, well nil points to that Harry! I suppose it could be said barefoot ties in nicely with carbon footprint, but somehow I don't think I'm on the right track with that confused

Beckett Thu 01-Aug-19 09:55:12

I give up - I was trying to make the point that I thought this was a thread about climate change, but go ahead and vent your fury at him and his wife if that is what makes you happy.

petra Thu 01-Aug-19 09:36:55

Beckett
This is the first time I have commented on Megan and Harry. But one subject that I'm very interested in, is, climate change.
The sheer hypocrisy stinks, not only that but it shows how stupid and ill educated he is to not see that this 'jolly' is soooo wrong.

Urmstongran Thu 01-Aug-19 09:35:13

Hypocrites day out.

Lindylou51 Thu 01-Aug-19 09:34:39

Well said merlotgran and Anniebach

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-19 09:24:38

The man is a prat

merlotgran Thu 01-Aug-19 08:58:40

Beckett, I don't give a toss about the others who are attending.

We don't pay for their lavish, hypocritical lifestyles.

merlotgran Thu 01-Aug-19 08:56:51

If the Queen doesn't step in soon to put a stop to their self serving behaviour the recent complaints will gain momentum and if this turns into a Harry and Meghan bashing thread so what?

They're doing a great deal of harm to the monarchy.

Nice little jolly for the security detail we're paying for though. hmm

TerriBull Thu 01-Aug-19 08:50:23

Beckett, it wasn't my intention to make it another "Harry and Meghan bashing thread" I don't go on the threads that pertain to them, I'm ambivalent about them both really, I don't have anti monarchy feelings, or deeply pro ones for that matter. I mentioned Harry because he addressed what seems to be a fatuous gathering to my mind.

Jangran I take your point about farmers in Africa not being able to afford labour and depending on family members.

Beckett Thu 01-Aug-19 08:46:24

I agree sodapop but what about all the others who have attended - why no vitriol against them?

sodapop Thu 01-Aug-19 08:42:26

They are leaving themselves open to it though Beckett obviously not being well advised or ignoring advisors..

Jangran99 Thu 01-Aug-19 08:37:42

This is the couple who just love Africa. More than 70 per cent of the world’s poor live in rural areas, with most families depending on labour-intensive agriculture to survive. In these communities, there can be a cultural expectation to have big families to combat their need for extra labour. Usually, farmers who live off their harvest can’t afford to pay extra labourers and can only depend on themselves and their children. For them, a large family might be the only assurance for survival.

TerriBull Thu 01-Aug-19 08:37:16

.........or maybe he'd just like to be quiet and stop lecturing keep his thoughts to himself. Enigmatic people, now they are the interesting ones! In the words of Kate Moss "Never explain and never complain"
