Sorry, Brussels 'rules' everybody in the UK - using an unelected, unaccountable team, who love to dispense your money with open hands. They build motorways in Madeira, bridges in Barcelona, and 'support' Welsh sheep farmers with our own money, all the while despising us and refusing (French) to put our products on the shelves of their supermarkets.
Why on earth does anyone want to stay in this ramshackle, corrupt organisation?
by the bye, the Scots, Welsh and N. Irish elect members of the UK government - Westminster is actually theirs - there are no English representatives in the Scottish or Welsh assemblies.

Sorry, will not comment on political issues on this site.

You are obviously not sorry - as you went ahead and told us and you did comment so what was the point of that Apegirl

Perhaps someone could explain why Scotland, Ireland and Wales, resent [being] ruled by Westminster but are quite happy with the prospect of being ruled by Brussels?

I have a feeling it is partly because they are over-ruled rather than ruled.

It could also be because we do not have an English parliament so "Westminster" is both English and UK which means some sorts of "English" get to throw their weight about and other sorts of "English" have nothing to say "this is what Englishness is" and are resentful. But who knows? I just know they have every right to feel they are being dragged out against their will.

A don't apologise. Very shrewd. Have regularly observed the downward spiral of political topics on this site. I consider myself extremely interested in politics but would never comment here.

Because Brussels doesn't "rule" anybody in the UK!

sorry, that should have been 'resent being ruled by Westminster'

I'm not so sure historians will see it as an English Brexit. I think they will see it as an example of worldwide phenomena. Like the rise of Nazi Germany, it will be studied from all different angles, in an attempt to make some sense out of lunacy.

The cleverest trick rich Brexiteers have pulled off is persuading so many people to vote against their own (and their country's) interest.

They didn't do it by logical argument. They did it by appealing to people's prejudices and animosity towards those with more power than they have.

Then they persuaded people to dismiss anybody who tries to argue rationally as know-it-all toffs and negative. Nobody likes to admit they could have been mistaken, so people are persuaded not to put forward rational arguments. Brainwashing is complete!

I have to admit that the Brexiters are winning the psychology battle. It's ironic that the people behind all this never have been democratically elected.

With nothing left for the old Etonians to go out and conquer they turned their minds to the EU and gave us a very English Brexit.

This is not a Scottish Brexit, they did not want it.

It is not an Irish Brexit, they learned long ago that the clever people are those who can negotiate, starting with a clear view of what they want to achieve.

It is now not even a Welsh Brexit. Quelling natives is not in their DNA and they now know the English will treat them a lot worse than the EU (who see them as equals) ever did.

So why are we allowing the remains of the English upper-classes to do this to us? Is it their kindness to Nanny? Is it their ability to swear and tell lies while tossing their remaining hair? Who knows.

But I do believe that when history writes up this strange period of self-flagellation (another joy of the old and dying English upper-class) it will be seen as a very English Brexit.
