At the Foreign Office he was heard to muse as to whether Chancellor Angela Merkel had served in East Germany’s Stasi secret police. French president Emmanuel Macron was a “jumped-up Napoleon”. As for Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, “Why isn’t he called Murphy like all the rest of them”.

Terrifying.

That would be the same Gove who told us in 2016 that "he does not believe Boris Johnson can ‘provide the leadership or build the team for the task ahead’

Boris Johnson to address MPs as Gove claims new plan could get 'pretty solid majority' in Commons

Johnson's government has said the EU must enter 10 days of “intensive discussions” by the weekend as the PM seeks backing for his Brexit blueprint.

European leaders have so far reacted coolly to the plan. The EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier reportedly described it as “a trap” and the European parliament’s steering group is expected to make clear today MEPs won’t vote to support it.

Opposition parties have reacted with hostility. Labour warned the proposals put the Good Friday Agreement in jeopardy, while the SNP and Lib Dems claimed they were “designed to fail” and push the country towards a no-deal exit.

Chancellor says 'nobody knows cost' of no-deal Brexit - but doesn't rule it out happening

www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/sajid-javid-on-economic-cost-of-no-deal-brexit-1-6297220

This irresponsible brexit government is hell-bent on no-deal even although they have no idea just how much it will damage our country.

How unpatriotic is that? Thank goodness there are patriotic journalists and publications pointing out the danger of allowing this to happen.

Firecracker123 Thu 03-Oct-19 10:46:07

You're right there The New European is a patriotic publication in favour of the EU.

Elegran Thu 03-Oct-19 10:34:52

I would have thought that "checks on leaving the EU & checks on arrival" couldn't mean anything else except "border checks" however you define where the border is.

varian Thu 03-Oct-19 09:57:13

We are not, in spite of BJ's inflammatory and belligerent rhetoric, at war.

It is in the best interests of the UK to Remain in the EU. The New European, which does argue for the Remain position, is a patriotic publication.

Our own national interests and the interests of those 27 other countries which BJ ironically refers to as "our friends and neighbours" whilst using terms like "surrender" and "collaboration", are the same. We are better together and most British people know that.

Do not be afraid to look at The New European. It would help you to open your mind.

Firecracker123 Thu 03-Oct-19 09:34:49

I've not opened your link it will be biased against the UK.

BJ is preparing a Queen's Speech- here's a helpful suggestion.

It’s something to do with checks on leaving the EU & checks on arrival. Not ‘at borders’.

Amen to that Jane

I just wish Westminster would agree the deal then we could all move on. There's lots to do!

humptydumpty Mon 30-Sep-19 21:33:52

Lest we forget - No Deal isn't actually supposed to be looming Ug

Johnson really is a pathological liar. Is he capable of telling the truth.

He told a reporter that he has contacted Jo Cox’s family and cleared it up with her family.

Neither her husband or Jo’s sister have had any contact with Johnson.

lemongrove Mon 30-Sep-19 21:08:37

Fingers crossed Urmston ??

lemongrove Mon 30-Sep-19 21:06:23

Describing somebody as hideous doesn’t always mean in appearance you know....I find Swinson much as I find Sturgeon, in fact they are very similar in lots of ways (hideous) but nothing to do with the way they look!

Urmstongran Mon 30-Sep-19 20:59:09

Boris is keen to involve the 27 member states - he is presenting his ‘deal’ to Varadkar and Merkel first, on Thursday. The text has been drafted and obviously he doesn’t just want to give it straight to Barnier!

If it is anything the Irish can accept we could have a deal here (at last)!

This will be the EU’s last chance - No Deal is looming.

ayse Mon 30-Sep-19 20:42:19

Just had another look at this thread and noticed paddyann’s comment about Boris’ possible American ancestry. I’ve got a feeling that part of his family originated in Turkey. Wikipeadia says he has Turkish ancestry. Maybe from the Janniseri, you know, the Christian boys who were taken to Istanbul to serve the Sultan.

Surprising that so many of our politicians have multi-cultural ancestry!

tidyskatemum Mon 30-Sep-19 20:34:01

And we all shuddered when those naive gullible Americans elected the chauvinist liar Trump...........

Jo is certainly attractive, well educated and highly intelligent. She may look like a girl to us on GN because many of us have children her age or older, but she is a thirty-nine year old married woman with two children who was first elected to parliament in 2005.

westendgirl Mon 30-Sep-19 17:18:42

Firecracker, please accept, without retaliating in an unpleasant way, that not everyone shares your opinion.

A very attractive , well-educated and sensible girl.
