It is judicial. Courts have ruled on these things for centuries

Judges in beginning to pronounce

Yet another legal twitter prediction but I too think the Government will lose today. If the Supreme Court was to hold that it could not rule on prorogation the world would look on aghast and question whether we are a real democracy. I think the Supreme Court will understand this.

EllanVannin Tue 24-Sept-19 08:56:11

It'll be all down to the political sways of the justices involved .

Urmstongran Tue 24-Sept-19 08:48:59

He has good legal advice. Geoffrey Cox (aka Rumpole). He will prorogue again. It’s not illegal in itself. The Supreme Court judges are deciding whether or not he lied to HM when he did it last time.

It’ll be watertight next time.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 08:34:23

Johnson has hinted that he will immediately prorogued again.

I wonder what the Queen will say about that?

Urmstongran Tue 24-Sept-19 08:31:20

I for one hope it’s good news for Boris.
Let’s get this done and move onto the next stage.

In the meantime we have the Labour Party conference in Brighton to entertain us.

It is lashing down here maizie I hope the roads will be ok where you are and your ancient vehicle doesn’t leak??

MaizieD Tue 24-Sept-19 08:18:51

10.30. When I will be in transit in an ancient vehicle with no radio in it!

Just as well, perhaps; I might be too distracted by the judgement ?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Sept-19 08:14:44

Today 10.30

Urmstongran I'm afraid I don't understand your post of Mon 23-Sep-19 12:15:51

CONFIRMED: Supreme Court will rule TOMORROW at 1030 on whether the Government's decision to prorogue Parliament was lawful

Urmstongran Mon 23-Sept-19 13:06:20

I put it badly humpty

I just meant for those decrying that Bills wouldn’t get passed, due to the proroguement, that the parliamentary session would have to end sometime. And that if one looks at it in that light, maybe the progress of some of these Bills got further than they might have ordinarily got - hasn’t this session been the longest since ... whenever?

humptydumpty Mon 23-Sept-19 12:54:18

Ug "the party was going to end sometime, wasn’t it?"

what a strange expression.. not sure what you're getting at..

Urmstongran Mon 23-Sept-19 12:15:51

Well you don’t have to look too far upthread GGmk3!

Yesterday evening at 17:13pm (same post as I congratulated Elegran but my comment wasn’t taken up!) I posted:

It occurs to me though that perhaps their petitions had gotten so much further than the norm this parliamentary session anyway, just because of the sheer, uninterrupted length of it!

So yes, disappointing for them, but the party was going to end sometime, wasn’t it?

GracesGranMK3 Mon 23-Sept-19 10:55:52

On the little forum I follow as research, the elderly far-right are already defaming the judges.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 23-Sept-19 10:46:16

I would love to be directed to your points of debate UG; I seem to have missed them.

Urmstongran Mon 23-Sept-19 10:07:26

I’m hurt. That was a cutting remark mcem

Whitewavemark2 Mon 23-Sept-19 09:56:02

And of course he will be ably assisted in the press, who will be believed by the gullible

I believe that Number 10 plans to dial up the political temperature under this case. It wants to be forced by judges to obey the law enacted by Parliament so it can, as it yesteday signalled, attack 'illegitimate judges' in a general election for ignoring the 'will of the people'

growstuff Mon 23-Sept-19 01:21:19

Not really, Maizie. mcem has a very valid point.

MaizieD Sun 22-Sept-19 22:46:57

Bit harsh, that, mcem?
