MP’s school visit

Well that is very shortsighted of that MP.
I have to say that when Iain Duncan Smith visited our school he listened attentively and was instrumental in sorting out the parking restrictions in the road outside the gates. Surely the MP at Nandalot's DGD's school would have gained more respect if she had spoken about local issues.

Well chance for them to learn about democracy in the country, That would’ve been pushing it a bit anyway wouldn’t it?!

My MP did the same a few months ago. She did the rounds of about six local primaries. A number of parents complained that she "bangeded the political drum" for the Tories. Unfortunately, it appears some of the Chairs of Governors are local Tory members and were the ones who organised the visits.

Appalling!

Many MPs visit schools in their constituencies. How on earth could they otherwise understand how well, or not the eductation system is running their area?

However, using it for a political grandstanding - talking about Brexit and BJ - is inappropriate.

That would be completely inappropriate for a secondary school, even less so for a primary.

I had something similar a few years ago when some big cheeses from one of the political parties came to my sons’s nursery - I had a suspicion they would use the opportunity to make some PPB and so I wrote to the school and said I didn’t want my son to be involved in the proceedings in any way. I was right, he did use the event to bang the party drum

Yes, I had thought of suggesting they invite some of the other party candidates. DD is one of the governors and did not know anything about it and is quite annoyed too. I am going to write to the MP expressing my feelings, rather than the school. (DD can deal with that).

Perhaps you could suggest to the Head and the Governers that the candidates for the other parties could all be invited to explain their points of view to the children.

I agree about a letter to the governors, and I would copy in the Head, and end with a question about what is being done to balance things.

Children should, IMO, be taught about politics; but at primary level it should be in very general terms, such as what parliament is, the roles of various people - PM, MPs, Speaker, Houses of Commons and Lords - that sort of thing). Definitely no party politics.

Wow that is unacceptable. I would send her a letter as well saying how disappointed you were that she didn't take this opportunity to talk to the children about democracy and voting!
