33 days to go .... What’s the Brexit plan?

Something’s afoot!

The SNP’s embrace – with a public show of reluctance – for the idea of sending Jeremy Corbyn into Downing Street shows the mounting tetchiness among Remainers that somehow Boris will be able to get around the Benn Act, and thereby leave the UK hurtling towards a no deal by the end of next month unless they take action.

What are your thoughts on what’s going on?

No, it more made me laugh! I imagined people seeing jura2 approach and saying ‘oh gawd, she’s here - let’s cross over’.

Drum roll for jura2 EU diplomat extraordinaire!

What's that snidey comment about, Ug?

jura is much better placed to judge how we are viewed by at least the rest of Europe.

I suppose you think their opinions don't count because they're all foreigners?

I don't know but I think RS would see it as loyalty to the government. He sees loyalty as important I think. He is going to stand for Mayor as an independent and is currently walking around London. His little video clips are interesting.

Just watched Dominic Reeve and Tom Brake being interviewed. They have both spoken to the gathering outside parliament. They looked very tired. I think they are all pretty worn out.

He's got no chance for London Mayor. London is Remain. He may have friends in high places but he has to persuade the voters to elect him.

Urmstongran Sat 19-Oct-19 18:05:37

Rory Stewart has indicated he would like to stand for London Mayor. He will want friends in high places.

So Boris says he won't negotiate extension. What does that mean?

Is the plan to send the letter and make the 'request' but refuse to engage the EU further and make it clear that, as the elected government (don't snicker, it's true until someone has the nerve to call a no-confidence vote) they won't cooperate in setting the terms for any extension that they don't want anyway?

That puts the EU in an interesting spot. They aren't supposed to negotiate with legislatures, only governments.

jura2 Sat 19-Oct-19 17:32:04

GG13- you probably do not read the Press from other EU countries, or other non EU- or watch their TV- or perhaps, talk to people from around the EU or the world on a daily basis- if you have not seen this in abundance.

MaizieD Sat 19-Oct-19 17:30:31

Rory Stewart said some time ago that he will not be standing for re-election.

Urmstongran Sat 19-Oct-19 17:26:11

I see Rory Stewart voted with the government. As the key issue was trust in Boris and he has been so vocal about not trusting him, I find this surprising. I guess he wants his career back more than he wants to be a good MP.

GracesGranMK3 Sat 19-Oct-19 17:21:09

Johnson did not say he would not send the letter he said he would not "negotiate an extension". If he doesn't the court can send it. There are a few people who could sign it; it doesn't have to be Johnson.

If he tries to frustrate the law he will be in court pretty quickly. He may also lose potential votes in parliament.

Urmstongran Sat 19-Oct-19 17:20:59

Very funny today when Jo Swinson's nomination for a caretaker Remain Prime Minister, Ken Clarke, stood up say that he he would be voting for Boris' deal.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 19-Oct-19 16:59:36

jura2 Haven't seen anything to justify your "statement here in the U.K. or overseas, only amazement that we had a referendum and three years later the clowns in Parliament are still arguing over it and getting nowhere.

jura2 Sat 19-Oct-19 16:48:02

GG13 - sadly we have all gone down with them in the eyes of the world.

What a laughing stock this country has become!

Yes, I remember an EU member speaking the other day about their hopes this new deal would be passed. When a TV reporter said it still had to get through Parliament, he replied "Ah yes, your Parliament" and then he shrugged as if to say 'what a shambles'.

Sorry, I can't remember which one it was.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 19-Oct-19 15:39:27

LadieGracie. This country is not a "laughing stock" just the clowns in the Houses of Parliament.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 19-Oct-19 15:28:05

OL oh yes?

LadyGracie Sat 19-Oct-19 15:27:51

What a laughing stock this country has become!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 19-Oct-19 15:27:01

So Johnson has lost 9 out of 9 votes.

As he sow etc.

No one can trust him.

Urmstongran Sat 19-Oct-19 15:26:48

Oliver Letwin

Whitewavemark2 Sat 19-Oct-19 15:24:02

OL?

NanKate Sat 19-Oct-19 15:21:51

Another set back when will this all end? I have crossed OL off my Xmas Card list.

I know many of you will not agree with me and that is your prerogative. I am not prepared to justify myself to anyone. I voted to Leave and here we are 3 years later in this horrible mess.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 19-Oct-19 15:09:51

He will write the letter or he will be in contempt.

Urmstongran Sat 19-Oct-19 15:00:34

So today is the 19th and a deal has not been agreed

That letter according to the law must be written today

and Johnson said he won't.
