You can bet your bottom dollar that the Misses Wax, Lowe, Stevenson and Misters Fry, Rylance et al are not sleeping on the streets, are still driving or being driven in cars and using their electronic gadgets. Still eating foods transported over thousands of miles, still wearing clothes made outside the UK, still not sorting their rubbish as assiduously as the average Brit, still spouting ignorant hypocritical nonsense.
They make me sick.
All of them, a***** of the first water.

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:58:38

I heard someone say it on the radio.

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:58:05

Honestly! You are joking aren't you? You really think I'm going to search the net for "sources"?

Funny! grin

janipat Fri 11-Oct-19 16:58:05

No you can't (where did the information come from then?) or no you won't ( why not share a valuable source?)

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Oct-19 16:57:38

Blimey they say that those who voted leave believe in rainbows and unicorns!!!!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Oct-19 16:56:30

When the U.K. reaches or even exceeds its emissions targets it is going to be just a minuscule drop in the ocean unless the whole of the world is going to work on this together.

Given the current world leaders and other world problems it is not going to happen.

Needlessly frightening our youngsters and leading them to have mental health issues over this is causing its own problems (there is an article on the BBC website about CC related mental health issues in the young)

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:56:13

No.

janipat Fri 11-Oct-19 16:54:35

Zero carbon by 2020 is possibly achievable Can you link to your source Gonegirl as I don't believe even XR have suggested any ways it can be achieved?

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:51:58

Citizens assemblies.

Zero carbon by 2020 is possibly achievable. The government need to declare a climate and ecological emergency first. And then seriously get to work on it.

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:49:20

It's to bring it to the attention of the government, and get them working on it. If they just stood in little groups on pavements they would be easily ignored.

janipat Fri 11-Oct-19 16:48:18

Gonegirl do you honestly believe there's a single soul in the UK that is unaware? They've made their demands very vocally. As for sensible demands, net zero carbon in 5 years? No idea how to achieve it and even if they started on citizen's assemblies tomorrow it would be months to come up with any suggestions. It truly isn't he who shouts loudest is right.

They are not trying to inconvenience Parliament, or anyone else who do they think they are inconveniencing then, surely they realise they are causing problems?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Oct-19 16:45:19

Oops sorry it is data from 2017, the accompanying article is 02/19

GrannyGravy13 Fri 11-Oct-19 16:43:12

This is a chart from the world economic forum dated February 2019.

I totally get CC but demonstrating in London is not going to have an effect on the countries contributing the most to the damage.

janipat Fri 11-Oct-19 16:41:10

You keep saying that they are aiming the demo at the government, but who is getting inconvenienced? Please name those MPs that have suffered from these actions. How was taking over Smithfield market aimed at the government?

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:38:44

They are not trying to inconvenience Parliament, or anyone else. Just draw attention to their sensible demands.

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:37:16

They are aiming the demo at a the government. The government alone can set up the citizens assemblies. Citizens assemblies are the way forward for the population and government together to find ways to deal with climate change.

janipat Fri 11-Oct-19 16:33:30

Gonegirl parliament isn't sitting so they are not inconvenienced. The city airport is not a place of government, nor Smithfield market, nor the Burger King they shut down. They are preaching to the general public, they are inconveniencing the general public. That guy on crutches who couldn't get to St Thomas's Hospital on the direct bus so had to change and then navigate the bridge through protestors, he isn't government. (And no I didn't agree with his whole rant, but nonetheless could understand his anger)

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 16:28:38

I will say again, XR are aiming their demo at the government. That's why they are in London, as close to H of C and Downing Street as possible.

They are not preaching to the general population.

Perhaps McD listened, the, janipat!

I know that they gave these two little girls short shrift which made me really angry.

janipat Fri 11-Oct-19 13:35:28

trisher must go got visitors arriving, but yes the publicity has been the biggest ever, I can't cite anything bigger. There I've agreed with you smile Do you honestly believe there is anyone left who hasn't heard the arguments about climate change? Those that haven't taken it on board by now are not going to change their minds whatever XR do. It's time to stop preventing people going about their lawful business and target only the lawmakers who can do what they (XR) want.
Callistemon I didn't see the program but do know McDonalds aren't giving plastic toys anymore, GS had one a few weeks ago, it was a little book.

Oopsminty Fri 11-Oct-19 13:31:39

Anyone eat avocados? If you're getting them from South America you're causing no end of damage. Drug cartels. The locals don't even have a water supply any more. It arrives in a truck and people are dying as a result. This is just for an avocado. For the gluttonous west. The favourite fruit of the moment. We really have no idea what is happening.

We're all acting as if we're hoping to go back to pre Industrial Age times which I'm sure we don't really want.

Developing countries ... which I've mentioned before ... will get poorer and poorer. So the rich have had their moment of paradise but to hell with poor countries. We have always been so utterly selfless o-0

We're a selfish lot.

And we think that prancing around London will help.

Nobody is going to give up their cars, their electricity their gadgets, their travels, their gas central heating. They may well do their best with reducing plastic/travel etc etc, as do I, but it really is nothing.

This planet really isn't 'designed' to sustain human life. We're a blip in its history. A freak of nature. We won't be here for ever. No matter what we do.

Callistemon Fri 11-Oct-19 13:23:44

Yes, MissA, that was us at 11.30 at night!

Callistemon Fri 11-Oct-19 13:22:23

I wish I'd had a burger at McD instead of the pathetic excuse for a cheese toastie which I ordered. It was inedible.
The thing was that nowhere else was open where we were that late at night.
That is the first time I have eaten in a MacDonald's.
And will probably be the last.

However, it was packed. What is the attraction?
