You can bet your bottom dollar that the Misses Wax, Lowe, Stevenson and Misters Fry, Rylance et al are not sleeping on the streets, are still driving or being driven in cars and using their electronic gadgets. Still eating foods transported over thousands of miles, still wearing clothes made outside the UK, still not sorting their rubbish as assiduously as the average Brit, still spouting ignorant hypocritical nonsense.
They make me sick.
All of them, a***** of the first water.

gillybob you are trying to reason with people who cannot possibly empathise with anyone in your situation. For some, XR can do no wrong whatever transgressions they commit. I'm just glad this wasn't happening when I was traveling daily to St Thomas's hospital for radiotherapy. I was severely debilitated from chemo, and just the daily train journeys were almost unbearable. I really feel for anyone trying to get through the road closures this time. But hey, XR say there's always collateral damage, funny it's just never them affected.

But Govts are lobbied by global companies who don't want to stop making money

Do the Govts really hold the power any longer?

I don't know what we will do. I care about this and have done for 45 years but unless the way the world works alters a lot it won't change.

I don't care if people have a demo/party in the street so much but I don't believe it will change things.
How come every time the XR blocks the streets of London Parliament is not in session.....?
Please make their lives more difficult smile

People like MissA , my DD and myself NEED to be able to get to work. We NEED to earn money to feed and look after our families, pay rents, mortgages, bills etc (you know those essential outgoings that most people have ). We don’t have the luxury of pissing about in tents, spraying walls of government buildings with food dye, playing with fire engines and water, glueing ourselves to buildings and all the other stupid pranks that these idiots think will save the world .

MissAdventure Wed 09-Oct-19 23:07:10

Ok. I'll leave you with this.

Sweet dreams. X

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 23:05:31

moon from me now.

Too knackered from riding bike into town to stay up any longer.

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 23:04:22

No way can this be trivialised.

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 23:03:58

Don't bother then. Too important to mess about. Sorry.

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 23:03:26

Recycling is vwery important inasmuch as it will help to save marine life. It can't do anything to stop climate change.

MissAdventure Wed 09-Oct-19 23:01:23

Nope.
There's only me here so you'll have to make do with that. wink

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 23:00:02

The questioon is not worth answering.

Can we have some intelligent comments please?

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 22:58:59

Sorry? Are you asking me that MissAdventure.

Are you even listening?! shock

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 22:58:09

Citizens Assemblies have been shown to work well in Ireland (Gay marriage laws and abortion laws)

MissAdventure Wed 09-Oct-19 22:57:23

Don't you recycle then? shock

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 22:57:18

They can only set those Assemblies up with co-operation of the government.

The government must declare a climate and ecological emergency NOW.

Gonegirl Wed 09-Oct-19 22:55:54

I agree with Hetty58. Recycling will do nothing to save this planet from becoming un-liveable on.

XR need to get their Citizens Assemblies set up so that government has to tackle the big issues.

Ordinary people must have a voice, and must be listened to.

janipat Wed 09-Oct-19 21:11:49

Hetty58 you know nothing of what anyone on here is or is not doing. Protesting in London and affecting the same people as last April will save the world will it? Do we just all go and join in, and that's our valued contribution? Or maybe some who are not using polluting decommissioned fire engines are actually doing more constructive things.
MissAdventure anyone with a brain cell or two would know that people with your circumstances are being affected. Apparently that's collateral damage and acceptable.

MissAdventure Wed 09-Oct-19 21:01:07

I still need to work, whether the planet is dying or not.

Zero hours contract, 11 year old to keep, flat to run and bills to pay.

Hetty58 Wed 09-Oct-19 20:56:44

Absolutely incredible that people moan about being delayed for work. The planet is dying! How easy it is to criticise what others are saying or doing - while doing next to nothing yourselves. Some seem to believe that recycling will save the world - hilarious!

Tweedle24 Wed 09-Oct-19 20:50:39

dinahmo. All I really meant, I suppose, was that we know the ‘powers that be’ are as aware of the coming catastrophe as the general population is; in some cases even more so. I just do not see that these sort of demonstrations are the answer.

It would be interesting to see how many XR members vote for the Green Party and how many actually contact their local MPs and councillors to tell them how they feel.

I do support the cause but am not convinced that this is the best way of doing things, I don’t have any alternative suggestions other than individually trying to reduce our owncarbon footprint and spreading the word to those who don’t.

PamGeo Wed 09-Oct-19 12:08:32

ps A friend of ours has created a wire ball cage for his bird feeder out of 2 flower baskets to prevent the larger birds grabbing the food

PamGeo Wed 09-Oct-19 12:06:49

Well said Madgran, I can't believe the tone of this thread with some posters.

gillybob Wed 09-Oct-19 11:57:50

I know that pinkquartz but my DGC just love feeding "their" birds. They have a large tin where they have created their special mix (as per the RSPB recipe) that caters for most small garden birds. Thankfully the horrible seagulls can't negotiate the bird table but they do hover around and that's enough to scare the little birds away.

pinkquartz Wed 09-Oct-19 11:43:06

smile

sorry bad eyes today

pinkquartz Wed 09-Oct-19 11:42:37

* gillybob*

putting food on a birdtable will attract gulls sadly.
We only use feeders for this reason and have had to stop throwing apples etc to the blackbirds for this reason.
I shan't say another word {smile]

gillybob Wed 09-Oct-19 11:26:06

Its nothing new is it EllanVannin ? Make do and mend.
