If you want our NHS to be ended and replaced by a private health scheme then this is where your vote should go.

The NHS is for sale if the Tories win. You won't take it from me? Take it from former Tory Prime Minister John Major.

"The NHS would be as safe as a pet hamster in the presence of a hungry python if Boris Johnson, Michael Gove & Iain Duncan-Smith rose to power following Brexit."

Under labour the cleaners were contracted in from a private company. They were only ALLOWED to clean the toilets at their set contracted times no matter how bad they got.

Would you clarify some dates here please, notanan.
'Hotel services' in hospitals were privatised during the Thatcher government. I might be getting a bit old and forgetful but I am pretty sure that Thatcher ran a tory government.

I worked in an NHS 'hotel service' until 1979 (when Thatcher came to power) and watched the subsequent 'privatisation' of those services with much disquiet.

I get the feeling that maybe you weren't employed in the NHS pre 1979. Because I can assure you that hospital cleaning became 'SHOCKING' under the tories post 1979. Whatever happened under the 1abour government nearly 2 decades later was an inheritance from the tories.

I must say that I'm glad to hear that cleaning has gone back 'in house', as it was pre Thatcher. I never worked in a hospital that was less than immaculate...

Do keep going with your 'the NHS is perfect under the tories' posts, though. They're very amusing...

WWW2 where is your evidence that the NHS will be sold off and privatised, you are entitled to your opinion but on what is it based. If you are going to make sweeping statements back it up with facts rather than mantra and headlines

I'm not say that the NHS is safe in Conservative hands necessarily, just giving a picture of my recent experiences and that despite the rhetoric you read in the papers and on the Twitterati in some areas significant improvements gave Bern made. Yes I agree that inner cities have problems of access to GPs landing waiting lists and this needs to improve but there are lessons to be learned by all parties from those health authorities who are getting it right. Some hospitals are just too big. Where I live we have a main hospital 15 miles away and local small 30 bed hospitals which deal with minor injuries, give treatment, give physio or cancer treatment. It seems to work. Getting immigration levels balanced is important for planning health care and infrastructure and staffing the NHS. I think as population rise before the necessary infrastructure is in place. Mental health is still a Cinderella illness and that needs to be addressed as well as time wasters and NHS tourists. There has to be some reality on what the NHS can and cannot do too. 70 years ago life was simpler and NHS did marvels in improving the nations health. It is without doubt one of Labours greatest innovations and UKs greatest assets but it will involve difficult decisions throwing money at it and building new hospitals is not enough. Education and prevention is key so people adopt better health habits. Recruitment of nurses is key. Years ago you could become a SRN nurse with 5 o levels now you need a degree. It's not a career for everyone but when I was a lass it was a career that was actively encouraged, I'm not sure that is the case now.

As a NHS cancer specialist, it’s my #publicduty to inform the public that the #NHS cannot withstand another five years of the Tories. We are at breaking point.
So are teachers, social workers, the police, prison officers, carers....

Oh please WWM2 your 2 threads are clearly intented to be connected. You are not being followed around the boards by lemongrove. Its pretty much the same conversation which you have for some reason split into two threads. Lemongrove isnt following you onto a thread about pets or travel to bring uo things you said in politics, I would say lemongroves posts here have remained on topic!

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 22:49:06

I certainly will.....but time for another episode of Giri Haji right now.brew

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:37:16

lemon by all means join in the debate.

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 22:28:46

What are you talking about? I am responding to threads that you started, and not just responding to your comments, but others as well.hmm
Warned off from doing?
You must expect comments that don’t agree with yours on here and other political threads.

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 22:25:13

trisher did say the other week that social media would be filled with messages of shock and awe the like of which we have never seen from socialist sources.....but you started earlier than I expected WWM2 ?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:24:48

lemon you are doing what you have done in the past and were warned off from doing

You are following me around.

Can I request you stop now?

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 22:22:20

WWM2 .....and your message for this week is ‘Jeremy had a good day today, vote Labour!’ ?

notanan2 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:21:02

^ at my local hospital

notanan2 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:20:38

Under labour the cleaners were contracted in from a private company. They were only ALLOWED to clean the toilets at their set contracted times no matter how bad they got. If their contract said check them at 2 and 6 that was ALL they were contractually allowed to do as an outside firm. Doctors and nurses had to clean them when they got really bad. Now, the cleaners are on the staff, part of the team and can come in between their cleaning rounds if something needs an extra going over.
Cleanliness was SHOCKING then but has improved 10 fold.

Not so sure that labour really are the anti private contract safe pair of hands they claim to be...... not in PRACTICE anyway...

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:18:30

tooting clearly the NHS is safe in Tory hands???

I think that’s the message for this week anyway

Tooting29 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:18:11

Secure with Labour? I'm afraid my politics have been coloured by mid 1970s but I can be convinced. After all Jeremy and I have allotments in common.

Tooting29 Sat 02-Nov-19 22:15:03

Granny I agree bad stories make news and political ammunition. My husband 2 years ago went to GP with a balance problem - within a week he was referred to local centre for elderly patients and had all tests done within a month all appointments were on time. More recently sight problems were picked up by optician and 2 weeks later diagnosis and treatment. I can email my GP through Ask my Doctor and I get a phone call the same day to discuss my health problem. All these are massive efficient improvements. All happened since I moved here 6 years ago.

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 22:03:31

No, and a lot of us don’t want to risk it thanks.

MaizieD Sat 02-Nov-19 22:00:40

Ah! But you have never tried a Corbyn government!

Nether, lemon, have you, nor anyone else in the UK.

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 21:58:54

Does he? ? that’s awful......That means Corbyn will win a landslide victory ?

Hetty58 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:48:35

I'm encouraged by the fact that Donald Trump dislikes him!

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 21:44:58

Ah! But you have never tried a Corbyn government!

Hetty58 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:41:47

Rubbish, lemongrove! I've always felt secure with a labour (but not 'new' labour) government.

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 21:39:17

Watch out Hetty ! Corbyn will be after your ‘land homes and businesses’ before you can say ‘John McDonald’ ?

Hetty58 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:38:41

Sorry, wrong post, apologies, please ignore!
