Considering voting Tory?

If you want our NHS to be ended and replaced by a private health scheme then this is where your vote should go.

The NHS is for sale if the Tories win. You won't take it from me? Take it from former Tory Prime Minister John Major.

"The NHS would be as safe as a pet hamster in the presence of a hungry python if Boris Johnson, Michael Gove & Iain Duncan-Smith rose to power following Brexit."

I do remember a LP ( possible bot) at the last election, but I would hardly have welcomed him/her/it.

Nonsense WWM2 I haven’t welcomed ‘these activists’ (whoever they are) for ‘years and years’ and ‘election after election’, and if I were Tooting I would report your posts.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:31:57

Speaking from my own experience I was referred by my GP for a gastroscopy mid October 2019.
From referral to procedure was 2 weeks 3 days.
The NHS good stories are not newsworthy, bad/sad stories sell papers!!

Tooting29 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:24:30

I genuinely don't. There's nothing much on TV I'm at home enjoying a cup of tea in my PJs and just engaging in a political discussion. I'm not an activist and not a conservative voter either. Just trying to make sense of it all and inject some personal perspective.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:16:42

Don’t you tooting well that surprises me.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:15:57

lemon year after year, election after election you welcome these activists with open arms saying how wonderful and right they are. You never ever question your judgement when they disappear once the election/referendum is over.

Tooting29 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:13:19

No I dip in and out of forums when the mood takes me. I'm not sure what point you are making

lemongrove Sat 02-Nov-19 21:12:22

I was thinking that of you WWM2 as your posts are at activist levels.
Welcome Tooting29 keep your comments coming.?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:06:49

tooting How long do you intend to stay? Until December 13th?

Happy to discuss politics in a measured and considered way. Your politics are obvious from your post and I am tired of sweeping statements from all sides based on whipped up feelings. Take NHS and my experience. In the last 6 years I have seen massive improvements in my local hospital. I get to see a GP quickly and both my husband and I have benefitted from fast referrals and swift diagnosis and treatment. Appointments are well managed and in time. So something is being done and improving. I want that level of service maintained. 21 years ago I was seriously Ill and grateful to the NHS for my recovery. Staff then were overworked toilets were never cleared of samples and management seemed chaotic. Fast forward to early 2000 same hospital and my husband was Ill. Great GP picked up on something quickly and he was admitted. Dirty wards same problem overworked staff. Note the dates. To think NHS is safe in labour hands does not match my experience. And who are these privileged people where is the bar set? Am I privileged because I had a good state education at a time when teaching assistants didn't exist and there were 43 pupils in my class at primary school. My background is working class. I had hard times too, not knowing where next penny was coming from. I worked, studied with OU ,(the best thing Labour ever introduced) forged a reasonable career, own my home and have a reasonably comfortable life. This through my own effort so what side of the bar do I sit. Who is speaking for the majority of hard working honest people?

Hello tooting on here for the election?

Tooting29 Sat 02-Nov-19 20:19:56

Hardly a balanced post after looking at your labour post

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Nov-19 19:27:48

Climate change is appearing at the top of concerns that we all want dealt with so the Bullying Brexiteers have decided to put a temporary ban on fracking. That's sure to make us all want to vote Tory!

trisher Sat 02-Nov-19 12:28:00

Under the deal we can only trade with the EU if we accept their trade regulations- so we are subjected to a regime we have opted out of and have no say in. It also effectively puts a border down the sea between England an N.Ireland. It removes all the safeguards for workers' rights, consumers and the environment. It's a blueprint for a Singapore economy.

I heard Matthew Parris this morning on radio 4 discussing his decision to leave the Conservative Party. He said they were rapidly moving to the right and there was no place for him or more liberal conservatives. He said he had always believed that one should fight for their principles within a party but he felt this was no longer possible within the Tory party.

I feel this was rather a damning statement concerning the direction of political travel within the Tory party. I was surprised to hear this from a former Tory MP.

dragonfly46 Sat 02-Nov-19 11:59:20

I won't be voting Conservative for the first time in my life as I cannot vote for a party who will take us out of Europe and has a leader with absolutely no integrity. However, I will not be voting Labour either. I remember previous governments. I also do not like the tone of this thread and if the people on here who are promoting Labour are anything to go by it is also a party I will not be allied to.

newnanny Sat 02-Nov-19 11:56:42

trisher how is it worse than May's deal? Under Boris' deal we can trade with EU and have other trade deals with other countries too. How is that worse than May's deal?

Oopsminty Sat 02-Nov-19 11:53:01

There is a limit. Maizie. I'm sure I'm not alone

trisher Sat 02-Nov-19 11:51:26

Can't believe anyone thinks Boris has done well to get a worse deal than the Mrs May ones!

newnanny Sat 02-Nov-19 11:46:23

typo 45 not 35

newnanny Sat 02-Nov-19 11:43:47

I shall be voting Conservative. I like my local MP and when I looked up how he had voted on last 50 issues I agreed with his vote on 35 of them so closely aligned. I think Boris has done really well to get a deal that allows us to trade with EU and other countries too. I voted leave and so I am very happy with Boris' deal. My dh agrees with me and he will be voting Conservative too. It also looks like reduction in NI contribution and lowering of threshold between £40k-£80k so bonus for us. we could never vote for JC as we have btl homes.

MaizieD Sat 02-Nov-19 11:42:06

Unless it's Britain First or whatever the far right groups are called.

Can't be doubt with them

You spoiled it there, Oopsminty

What you seem to be saying is that there is a limit to what you can tolerate.

For some other people toryism is outside their toleration limits...

Matthew Parris

Will Hutton
@williamnhutton
This is another powerful article from Matthew Parris, Liberal middle England Tories are beginning to leave the europhobic party of Mark Francois and Jacob Rees - Mogg - a trickle turning into a flood.
I’m leaving the Tories and voting Lib Dem
