One reason Johnson didn’t attend.
If a Minister was going to attend on behalf of the PM why not Theresa Villiers?
Surely picking whoever holds that brief for whichever party would have made sense?
Yesterday 16.19.
Can't remember ever seeing a post displaying such arrogant gullibility (or is it gullible arrogance?)
It's attitudes like this that have created and perpetuated the utter chaos we now endure!
Who decided it was a Leaders debate. This is part of the point, the media dictating the agenda and participants.
I cannot believe I am reading this
Who do you think should be 'dictating the agenda and participants'?
Don't you believe in a free press? Would you just prefer a government mouthpiece?
What David Attenborough thinks
Channel 4 News
@Channel4News
Sir David Attenborough says it is "shameful" of the Prime Minister not to attend last night's climate change debate.
"I don't know what else he had to do, but it would have to be very, very important to dodge this one."

^The Government does not resign when Parliament is dissolved. Government ministers remain in charge of their departments. The role of minister is independent of the role of MP.
Ministers keep their ministerial titles after dissolution, but MPs can no longer use MP in their name.^...www.parliament.uk...maybe he was working.
Some people are up in arms about American imports, however accept this import of US style of TV debate which does nothing. In all honesty who amongst those ‘leaders’ would dare to say anything controversial on that programme and how many could say in all certainty that their party line would be deliverable and time bound. It is just a farce.
I do think that BJ should do AN.
maizie yes ch 4 asked the leaders if they were happy to allow Gove -who incidentally turned up with his own camera crew??? And they said no.
It was a Leaders debate, Joelsnan. If Gove had been admitted there's every possibility that the other Leaders would have refused to participate.
And he won't be carrying out any ministerial duties, not in the run up to a GE (unless there's an absolute emergency). He just knows he's actually pretty hopeless at anything requiring knowledge and detail...
But he's not carrying out any ministerial duties Joelsnan, he's telling us how to fill a scone.
Very close indeed! They are definitely pro Tory if you ask me. Thought this debate was excellent. I just didn't realise just how bad the situation is. One positive that Jo Swinson mentioned was that we managed to deal with hole in the ozone layer, so we can improve the carbon situation if we all pull together. It will take a long time though. So terribly sad to see that poor koala squealing like that in agony.
joelsnan and so do I.
The BBC is close to breaking its impartiality remit isn’t it?
If this had been a true programme about the environment then surely any party political representative should have been able to attend, and may well have been more enriched by someone within the party who may have substantial knowledge on the subject.
I find this media manipulation disgraceful. attend our programme, when er say so, on the topic we decide, or we will humiliate you
BJ is the only one of the participants still with governmental duties so could well be unable to be at medias beck and call.
BTW I’m no BJ fan but see this media manipulation as concerning.

Next time I can't be bothered to turn up to a work appointment, I'll send my elderly father and his ventriloquist dummy to stand outside the room rambling incoherently and emptying the contents of his pockets. This bunch are a laughing stock! #ClimateDebate #bbcqt
Michael Gove and Stanley Johnson are like two rich landowners who accidentally ate magic mushrooms and are trying to talk their way into Glasto.

Chris Packham now on trees. Opportunity to donate to plant one.
Krishnan Gurumurthy did a great job of chairing a very informative and civilised debate on the challenge of climate change with the leaders of five of the parties standing in this general election -
Jo Swinson, Leader of the Liberal Democrats
Nicola Sturgeon, Leader of the SNP
Adam Price, Leader of Plaid Cymru
Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party
Sian Berry, Co-leader of the Green Party
All of these leaders turned up, and were willing and able to answer questions on the very important issues of climate change and sustainability,
There was an elephant in the room - the conspicuous absence of the Leader of the ruling Conservative Party, Boris Johnson, who was either unwilling or unable to answer the questions that all these other party leaders were able to address.
How could anyone who watched this well conducted debate, ever vote Conservative?

Well I think it was the best so far. Issues discussed and it is clear that leaders are aware of the issues. I sat in tears at the beginning but feel better at the end.
This great leaders debate on Channel 4 has just finished

U.K. the most nature depleted country IN THE WORLD
1 in 7 of our natural species under threat of mass extinction.
It is clear that this existential threat simply cannot be tackled without a huge level of funding.
I'm sorry I just can't come to terms with the fact that Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, didn't want to do a TV debate so he sent his dad to do it instead
The Prime Minister

There is a photo on twitter showing Gove etc in the Ch 4 studio. High drama indeed.
