I read that he was considering training to be a priest, when 1 first looked him up; nothing wrong in that , but as you say, it is the hiding of it. He left school without many qualifications but continued with his education, taking two degrees I believe; that I admire. I do not admire his politics.

mumofmadboys I agree with much of what you say, but I truly believe if the children of MPs and Councillors had to attend the local state school in their constituency, we'd see a rapid improvement in some of the poor ones. If the local school isn't good enough for their child, then it's not good enough for anyone's child.

Lots of MPs own two houses - nothing new there - if they don’t own them they need to rent somewhere as not many will have their family home within commuting distance of their constituency and Westminster.

According to Wikipedia, McDonnell went to a local grammar school and then "began training to be a Catholic priest, receiving a Church grant to attend St Joseph's College, Ipswich,[11] a Roman Catholic boarding fee-paying independent school...before eventually deciding against the vocation at the age of 15 or 16".

I know that Wikipedia isn't always accurate but it sounds like he wasn't there very long, and maybe it was the best way to train to become a priest at that time.

A vocation to be a priest is surely a noble one.

I suppose it’s his money Anniebach or from inheritance. But, what do you feel about his continued suppression of his alumni?

He is not responsible for his parents choices. I do think it would be wonderful if everyone went through the same state education system. No more private school children having more of their share of the places at elite universities. It would help create a more equal society. I am sure some will disagree with me. The state system would improve then!
