I’d be happy to debate this with you.

On ANOTHER thread! Just not his one.

You do have a bee in your bonnet. Are you like this in real life?

Gawd you are persistent. And rude. No apology I see about presuming you knew of my financial situation.

What gets me about McDonnell is that he was sneering at Johnson for being a posh boy. Can you imagine if a public school boy sneered at Comprehensive kids during an election interview?
So tired of Labour's high moral tone; who do they think they are?

Oh well, so what do you hope will happen if you or DH needs a hernia operation, or are suffering agonies from kidney stones, or need a blood test to see if you have cancer?

It ain’t going to happen unless you pay.

The most simple of hernia will cost £2500, with only one night stay in hospital. Extra if you have to stay longer.

Urmstongran Sat 30-Nov-19 11:46:01

^Try telling the poor why you think taking away various operations is a price worth them paying, as presumably you can afford to pay?

Nasty comment from you again.

I have no savings at all. I cannot afford to pay. We live month by month and modestly.

You presume wrongly.

This is a non-issue. Try tackling the Imam’s letter or the issue with the NHS that you are happy to vote for.

You persist WWmk2 in attempting to derail this thread. I wonder why that is?

Start your own on your chosen topic!

I read that he was considering training to be a priest, when 1 first looked him up; nothing wrong in that , but as you say, it is the hiding of it. He left school without many qualifications but continued with his education, taking two degrees I believe; that I admire. I do not admire his politics.

mumofmadboys I agree with much of what you say, but I truly believe if the children of MPs and Councillors had to attend the local state school in their constituency, we'd see a rapid improvement in some of the poor ones. If the local school isn't good enough for their child, then it's not good enough for anyone's child.

Urmstongran Sat 30-Nov-19 11:33:58

I’m not belittling him.

I’m calling him out on his hypocracy. He even changed the name of the school at one time (a little) so as not to give the game away.

Urmstongran Sat 30-Nov-19 11:31:46

I admitted as much momb his parents made the choice.

But HE pretended he only attended for a path to priesthood.

Labour echelons are such champagne socialists!

Lots of MPs own two houses - nothing new there - if they don’t own them they need to rent somewhere as not many will have their family home within commuting distance of their constituency and Westminster.

Ramblingrose22 Sat 30-Nov-19 11:31:19

Oh dear! Corbyn also went to private schools so why aren't you criticising him too?

According to Wikipedia, McDonnell went to a local grammar school and then "began training to be a Catholic priest, receiving a Church grant to attend St Joseph's College, Ipswich,[11] a Roman Catholic boarding fee-paying independent school...before eventually deciding against the vocation at the age of 15 or 16".

I know that Wikipedia isn't always accurate but it sounds like he wasn't there very long, and maybe it was the best way to train to become a priest at that time.

A vocation to be a priest is surely a noble one.

Why do you feel the need to belittle him for this? Everyone has the right to change their mind.

Urmstongran Sat 30-Nov-19 11:29:21

I suppose it’s his money Anniebach or from inheritance. But, what do you feel about his continued suppression of his alumni?

mumofmadboys Sat 30-Nov-19 11:28:56

He is not responsible for his parents choices. I do think it would be wonderful if everyone went through the same state education system. No more private school children having more of their share of the places at elite universities. It would help create a more equal society. I am sure some will disagree with me. The state system would improve then!

Anniebach Sat 30-Nov-19 11:26:56

He owns two houses

Urmstongran Sat 30-Nov-19 11:26:27

Stop swerving! Nice try.

It’s more the fact that he tried to HIDE it. Won’t you see?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 30-Nov-19 11:24:32

I think it’s a dead cat. It’s been known about for ever as far as I know. Sun just doing its usual right wing tripe.

How about discussing what will actually make a difference like the withdrawal of 34 operations and procedures. Which the poor will not be able to afford?

Urmstongran Sat 30-Nov-19 11:21:25

What is it with Labour high command? The Sun newspaper recently outed JMcD as having gone to a fee paying public school at £38,000 p.a. Fair enough say some, you can’t blame him for the choices his parents made regarding his education.

But wait a minute! These last few years he had tried to hide it. Said (eventually) it was in preparation for the seminary (it wasn’t - the school scoffed at the idea).

Now he’s part of the cohort who wants to abolish private schools but will make do (until then) with removing their tax avoidance charity status.

In the mean time he waves his little red book about.

Seems to be “do as I say, don't do as I do” - for the few, not for the many it seems.

Another Labour hypocrite!

What do you think?
