When people talk about "hating Tories" the implicatiom is that they hate Tory voters. Who are NOT all rich.

There has been witch hunting of Tory voters and social media and within families. Momentum has stirred this "if they dont vote for us they are your enemy" culture of hate and fear.

You surprise me. I frequently see abuse & even threats of violence, directed at people with left-wing views, or who wanted to stay in the EU, on FB and Twitter. Is that ok too?

Smileless2012 I explained the difference between the condemnation of a political choice and condemning someone for something over which they have no choice which would of course include ethnicity, sexuality and gender. No one should be hated because of those things but if we are to tolerate all political choices then is fascism acceptable? Am I expected to keep quiet when someone blames immigrants? I'm sorry but if people don't like being chanted about because of their political beliefs thay have a choice, change how they think or ignore because they believe they are right. There are things you can change and things you can't. It's not a slippery slope it is knowing the difference.

We have democracy, individual liberty, tolerance and respect. That literally means you have the right to express yourself as long as you are tolerant and respectful of others for their religion, ethnicity etc

Boris Johnson is not going to have his feelings hurted by a football chant.

Perhaps he would like to win those people over though?

We can all help with that by holding the conservatives accountable

Hate is a very powerful and emotive word, it should be used wisely and with caution and if it isn't, it shouldn't be used at all especially toward others.

I mean, I think we are taking the word a bit too far, hense the hating Brussels sprouts comparison.

I also hate that I have to walk to work in the rain, I hate arguments and I hate bananas...

Let me say it simply for you. If you allow hate chants against anything at a football, it could be against cute kittens, it could be against semolina pudding, it could be a political party you do not like. That means that you are passing the message that it is quite acceptable for hate chanting to take place at football matches. It is a slippery slope. At the next match the hate Conservatives slogan could become 'kill Boris Johnson' or even 'kill Jeremy Corbyn', to be followed by 'hate all the jews' and pass gradually to truly disgusting racial chanting.

It is a slippery slope and anyone who can enthusiasticly support any hate chanting against anything is walking down the Fascist path.

You can hate who you like Starblaze although hatred is a corrosive thing and won’t do you any good.

I find it very interesting that since the referendum there have been a lot of posts about an increase in racism and hate crimes.

Those who voted leave have been blamed for this increase, the result giving the ill informed and ignorant who are racist 'permission' to express that hate. I agree that this type of behaviour is wrong.

Hating something isn't the same as hating someone or a group of people because of their faith or lack of it, the colour of their skin or their political beliefs.

Chanting and encouraging hatred is wrong regardless of who it is aimed at. At best it's immature and at worse disturbing.

Calling hating the Tories as something akin to racism is so wrong. People have a choice over who they vote for, they have no choice about the ethnic group they belong to. It's quite simple if you vote for a party with policies which demonise the poor and vulnerable and fall for the lies that party peddles then don't be surprised when others call you out.

It is all hogwash! there are already stirrings from some MP's about paying for Social Care, the figures for the 'new ' Nurses and Police span 10 years and they have no idea how to retain the numbers they promised, and Brexit will take months and months if not a year or two to sort out. It was a campaign bolstered by lies and false information. I will be watching very closely and I WILL call out Conservative voters who I believe have sold this country and its people down the river.

The idea that people who would do so must be on a slippery slope to being racist is an utterly ridiculous statement. People are allowed to hate the tories, it is an expression of feelings about people who have caused untold harm and even death in the last few years. It doesn't oppress them, they are all quite well off and not worried about being denied a home or a job because of their ethnicity. Perhaps an education on racism and the struggle people have faced for generations is in order.

This thread was not made to be unkind or unfriendly but people should be allowed to express how they feel about our new government without people looking for ridiculous excuses to demonise them.

Callistemon I think you are right. Anyone who cannot see how praising chanting against any group at a football match is on the slippery slope to chanting racist slogans is past praying for.
