May I join those of you feeling optimistic about politics for the first time in years. I also welcome Sir Lindsay Hoyle as speaker. A breath of fresh air after the last one. (About time the Speaker was good. What was the name of that Scottish one before Bercow, George Martin? Awful. Have to go right back to Betty Boothroyd for a decent one).

for a little less than half the voters, yes -

for the rest, no- despair and real worry about the future.

Another happy and relieved household here. The relief in the country is palpable.

GagaJo Tue 17-Dec-19 17:19:15

I loved Bercow. Very impartial. Not to mention strict.

Firecracker123 Tue 17-Dec-19 17:04:47

Yes happy that we are finally going to leave the EU and Corbyn is on his way out. ? ??

Poppyred Tue 17-Dec-19 17:02:28

Same here Urstomgran a big sigh of relief and able to watch the news again. ??

Cherrytree59 Tue 17-Dec-19 17:00:50

? Not sure how long it will last.
Honeymoon period and Christmas.

Unlike his predecessor, Sir Lindsay will be completely unbiased. No ego either. A down to earth Lancastrian.

Urmstongran
Just the same feeling in this household. We are still buzzing with the glorious outcome of the election. It puts a big grin on your face, doesn't it.???

Urmstongran Tue 17-Dec-19 16:51:08

Nope.
?

jura2 Tue 17-Dec-19 16:47:50

You are jesting, I take it ?!?

Jane10 Tue 17-Dec-19 16:40:21

I'm enjoying watching the news again. No more tit for tatting and stalemate all round.

Nico97 Tue 17-Dec-19 16:38:09

Urm I said as much to my DH - long may it last ?

Urmstongran Tue 17-Dec-19 16:34:45

For the first time in 3 and a half years I feel happy and content and calm about politics and Brexit.

This Tory victory was the best Christmas present this country could have wished for. I'm so happy right now

Nico97 Tue 17-Dec-19 16:27:02

Just been watching this and would echo the comment by Calendargirl smile

Ilovecheese Tue 17-Dec-19 16:24:39

You are correct Calendargirl sorry about that. I suppose she must think she will get less abuse in the Lords than in parliament.

Calendargirl Tue 17-Dec-19 16:18:44

I don’t think Nicky Morgan lost her seat, she didn’t contest it. Zac Goldsmith lost his, yes.

Ilovecheese Tue 17-Dec-19 16:11:12

Zac Goldsmith has also been given a peerage and a place in Government after losing his seat.

Ilovecheese Tue 17-Dec-19 16:08:51

Nicky Morgan has been given a life peerage and has been reinstated as culture secretary after losing her seat.

Calendargirl Tue 17-Dec-19 16:07:37

Will be a definite improvement on dreadful Bercow. Good riddance.

Urmstongran Tue 17-Dec-19 15:59:39

in Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

Let’s hope it makes a positive difference.
