House? You were lucky to have a HOUSE! We used to live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture. Half the floor was missing; we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of FALLING!

I agree gilly anyone who can afford private health care is very lucky.

I think those who own their own homes are very lucky they
don’t have to live in council sheltered accommodation and
there must be many homeless who think I am very lucky that
I have council sheltered accommodation.

PP is in my opinion a very fortunate old man to have first class private medical treatment available to him and his family at the click of a finger . No waiting lists for them and the very best of care 24/7 .
I don’t begrudge them it at all but they really are very lucky indeed.

I would like GoldenAge to post a link for the public records of the ‘mistress for decades ‘, perhaps from tabloids !

Don't know what they old duffer is like behind closed doors but I can vouch that he doesn't like fuss. All the soldiers on our base had to hide in bushes etc when he visited in the late 1970's. He didn't want that level of security but it had to be given so the soldiers had to hide.

His chauffeur was a snooty so and so but he (PP) seemed down to earth.

I think somebody mentioned the phrase " middle ground". No that is long gone. You are either a goody or a baddy.

Baddies are jealous haters who want a republic.

Goodies love all their fellow humans equally.

Apparently the Duke has had a stent procedure so must have struggled beforehand. Could have been a heart attack he'd had. Quite a number of patients have this procedure each year though obviously not in his age bracket and those who have one or two stents are discharged pretty quickly and do well.

3 neighbours near me had the procedures done, one is back at work and returned back pretty quickly .The other two who are retired still continue with their normal lives. All 3 had suffered heart attacks, albeit not majorly.

Anniebach Sun 22-Dec-19 09:17:48

Seems all we need to do to solve the problems in the NHS, give a house to every homeless person, is become a republic

EllanVannin Sun 22-Dec-19 09:11:50

Money or not, nobody can " mend " a sick old body. Whoever it is who's suffering isn't a nice prospect and we all must know that when feeling ill the last thing we think about is money ! Well I do anyway as my thoughts are on getting better and having a decent quality of life in later years.

Personally, I could never complain about the treatment I get-----which actually makes me feel as though I'm someone special anyway, so where does money come in to it when you have a service like that ?

Anniebach Sun 22-Dec-19 08:58:04

So sympathy is measured by a persons wealth

sodapop Sun 22-Dec-19 08:55:41

And why do you assume we don't do that anyway Goldenage

mumagain Sun 22-Dec-19 08:52:47

Other marriages don’t have the access to private hospital care complete with funkiest available for your every whim , the ability to travel from wherever at a moments notice and to choose where they are seen medically . Consider the people of a similar age who are alone and confused in hospitals around the country because their families can’t afford to be with them

Anniebach Sun 22-Dec-19 08:45:16

Some are capable of being concerned for all .

GoldenAge Sun 22-Dec-19 00:37:37

I'm not a royalist but even if I were I wouldn't have a shred of respect for Prince Philip, or indeed this particular royal family since the role models it has been sending us for years and years are quite despicable, yet people continue to worship the royals as though it were a group of demi-gods. Principle Philip has had a mistress for decades - it's a matter of public record and nobody bats an eyelid, Prince Charles had a mistress at the time he was getting married to Diana, and Prince Andrew has disgraced his wife and daughters, and the wider family. Quite frankly, the idea that we should be wasting our sentiments and money on this family when we have so many people living out of food banks these days is preposterous. I won't be popular but I will say for heaven's sake, those of you who are worried about an old cheat going into hospital place your energy where it can do some good, volunteer to go and feed the homeless or do a shift as a carer in a local home.

SirChenjin Sat 21-Dec-19 23:46:32

I doubt if anyone at Balmoral would be hanging about for ages waiting for a callback from NHS24 or sitting for hours in ARI A&E dept.

Pollyj Sat 21-Dec-19 22:54:40

I can’t help comparing his treatment to other old people’s. Helicoptered off to hospital, no waiting hours for an ambulance or lying on a trolley in a corridor for hours. I wish him well as I would anyone, but hate the difference.

SueDonim Sat 21-Dec-19 22:39:38

If any of the royals are taken ill at Balmoral they’d see the same super qualified medic as anyone else in this part of the world would.

annep1 Sat 21-Dec-19 21:57:55

but she is wealthy so couldn’t experience these emotions
And who said this?

Oh I give up. You've more patience than I Sirchenjin

SirChenjin Sat 21-Dec-19 21:31:34

Or we could simply scale the current one right back? There’s a vast middle ground between what we have now and a republic. It won’t remove the wealth entirely of course, but it would reduce the extreme wealth and everything that comes with it that the RF enjoy (with the taxpayer contributing to a significant extent).

Pantglas2 Sat 21-Dec-19 21:21:05

Of course it’s priceless - as it will be for the president his/her family if we decide to get rid of the royal family. You’ll still be paying and feeling hard done by!

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 21:17:56

Thank you sodapop I just don’t understand why it is assumed because the Windsors are wealthy they don’t know,
stress, worry, hurt, grief, betrayal, physical and emotional pain.

Many of us have known some or all the above, if the queen posted here and said she or a family member was struggling with any
of the above she would receive kindness, reassurance, advice,
but she is wealthy so couldn’t experience these emotions.

annep1 Sat 21-Dec-19 21:15:14

Every time they don’t feel well - voila! - a super qualified medic turns up to reassure and soothe them. Priceless in my opinion.

Priceless indeed.

sodapop Sat 21-Dec-19 21:05:40

Agreed Anniebach

annep1 Sat 21-Dec-19 21:04:54

No Anniebach it doesn't guarantee you won't have ill health and loss. Happy now? !

They don't have to worry
That's what I meant when I said no stress. When they're ill, immediate attention is guaranteed.

Anniebach Sat 21-Dec-19 20:50:51

Katherine Kent lost a baby and suffered a nervous breakdown,
Zara Phillips had a miscarriage , the best medical care one can buy doesn’t prevent worry and loss.
