Of course it isn’t a ‘wind up’ !
It’s marking a historic event, and like it or not ( leaving the EU) it was a democratic vote so to do.Not wanting a coin in your purse, or to hear Bongs at midnight or to drink champagne is your right, but equally those who do want those things have a right to enjoy them, and no doubt they will.

I think this new 50p coin is a deliberate windup, trying to upset Remainers further and adding further fuel to the huge divide that Brexit has opened up. I certainly don't want any of them in my purse. It is just proving that the Government do not want to heal the divide.

Oh for heavens sake it`s only money.
I would love to know what the anti royalists do with their money.

I still use cash for anything under a fiver. What about The Big Issue, poppies in November and charity boxes? And I still like to give grandchildren a shiny £1-2 coin for sweets and they love having them!

I said I use it sometimes Lemon but mostly use contactless. I have some of those thingies, forget their name, that protect the card from being read by any unscrupulous person.

I don’t believe anyone who says they never use cash...sorry.

growstuff I was wondering about a tip in a restaurant for good service.
I know there is quite often 10% added for 'gratuities' but sometimes we might want to give a cash tip to one person.

I don't go to the local market any more. We have a fantastic greengrocer, fishmonger and butchers, all of whom accept card. The quality is much better than the market and comparable in price.

I've never been sent away to get cash, so maybe I'm lucky.

I like the idea that my outgoings can be tracked because I try to claim as many of them as possible as taxable expenses . I honestly couldn't care less if somebody were to track my day to day activities (all amazingly boring). It might come in useful to the police (or somebody) if I were ever to disappear .

My children don't use cash either and I suspect many younger people don't, so they might not ever see one of these coins. Apparently, it's not illegal to get a Sharpie pen and write "I love EU" on the back of a normal 50p!!

I cannot see myself obtaining any as I use my card for ALL purchases and the car parks in my area are for pound coins only.

I think it is silly to not accept the coin. We have to accept what is a done deal.

The wording on the coin is excellent - "Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations". Who can object to that?

For when card machines aren't working, growstuff?

I've several times had to nip out and get cash from a machine in those circumstances.

Also, buying from local markets? We have a small one once a week, all the traders deal only in cash...

I rather like the idea that my movements and spending patterns can't all be tracked through card payments...

I don't buy newspapers and I pay my window cleaner by direct bank transfer.

We use cash to buy the newspaper each day as our local newsagent won’t accept card payment for such a small amount.

We also need cash for car parks, and I pay our window cleaner with cash.

Before too long though I expect we will all have one of those little microchips embedded under the skin on our wrists like a lot of Swedes do!

Correction. I don't drive anywhere else, where I would need to use a car park.

I only use two car parks (one near my town centre and the one next to the station) and I can use apps for both. I don't drive anywhere else.

I'm not sure that some of the car parks I use have an app!
In fact one we used at the weekend was 50p.

Obviously for large purchases I would use a card.

No, I'm not the Queen!! I don't have much money, so don't buy "small stuff", which I don't need. I wouldn't be able to keep track of small amounts either, which is why I prefer to keep digital records. I haven't drawn out any cash from a machine for months.

My biggest outgoings, by far, are for fuel and food and always use cards for them. I've been told it's cheaper for businesses to process contactless payments than cash, so I use contactless on the rare occasion I buy a coffee somewhere. I use an app for car parks and buy most stuff online.
