It's one thing IMO to have an opinion and air it with regard to someone's behaviour that is thought to be unacceptable and quite another, to make comments about and appear to be questioning someone's faith.

There has only ever been one perfect Christian and Jesus criticised the behaviour of others he found unacceptable.

I don't agree GracesGran that the way H & M have behaved was the only way open to them. They could have withdrawn from public life without disrespecting our Queen, and I say that as someone who has never considered myself to be a royalist, and as a Christian.

I hope your mother's funeral went as well as such a sad event can. My sincere condolences to you and your family for your loss.

GGMK3 I cannot think of any reason why the Sussexes could not have made a graceful and thought through withdrawal from public life. I doubt if their family would have had any objections.

As with so many things in life, it is not what you do but the way that you do it and to any outsider it seems to me that they chose to do it in a way that would cause maximum pain to Prince Harry's family.

I have seen pictures of last night's events. I thought Prince Harry looked more tired and strained than I have seen any member of the Royal family look in the past. I feel truly sorry for him.

Quotes from the bible are used to express opinions in a more apposite way, using expressions that at one time were familiar to many people, not as a demonstration of people's religious beliefs.

Reading a book recently about high society in Edwardian times, I was very struck by the comments on the American heiresses that married into the impoverished aristocratic British families. Many couldn't stand life here and retreated to their American homes remarkably quickly.

I assure you they are not jibes Annie. They are straight forward criticism - just as you are making, on the hypocrisy of those who declare themselves to be Christian.

If you are aware no other Christian can be perfect isn't the idea that you should try rather than casting the first, or subsequent stones at the poor woman. Gossips are destructive of peoples' lives just as the judgemental stoners of the bible were, it seems to me.

But obviously, you will find some other excuse for not even attempting to live up to your declared values.

What we are seeing here are a couple who have reasons of their own to want to withdraw from public life, doing it in a manner that seems to be aimed at causing as much inconvenience, and unhappiness for their family as possible, while still expecting the state to continue to pay for elements of their private life like personal security. I think those funding them have a right to criticise their behaviour

Or, of course, it could be that this is the only way left open to them. They are the forerunners of what may well come in the future. I imagine, (as that is all any of us can do) the Royal family will make changes to allow for the younger members to have a life away from the state but not away from their extended family.

Right, I will now go and get ready to join my family as we go to my mother's funeral this afternoon. She wasn't perfect either but then none of us is although some seem to see themselves above reproach in their decimation of other characters. She was much loved though so being perfect was never expected. Why ask someone else to be what we cannot be?

Neither did I Chestnut. Perhaps reading the posts would help. I merely quoted from the bible as I might, and did, from the Today programme. It is others who decided it was their place to comment on Megan taking "holy" vows and pointing out that "there has only been one perfect Christian". Something perhaps, in the light of their declared beliefs, they should be reflecting on rather than telling others to. But so many of you are so sure it's okay to use gossip to wreck others lives that I really doubt that will happen.

Those who are state funded to play a public role must expect to be judged on their public behaviour and conduct in their work, which is wider than their table manners at public events.

GracesGranMk3 There are some on here, just as there are in all Christian groups, who are only prepared to take Christianity as far as it suits them. ......... I just wonder why Christianity attracts quite so many hypocrites.

Incidentally I thought Meghan looked lovely tonight, although I noted a heavier use of makeup. That’s fine, I wear makeup, but it is known that the Queen prefers the royal ladies to be a little more discreet. And she’s still royal, unless she gives up her title Duchess of Sussex entirely and dispenses with Frogmore Cottage and gives up any claim to security paid for by the British taxpayers.
Nonetheless she looked absolutely lovely.

To dismiss other people’s opinions just because you don’t agree with it is fine. It’s also fine to form an opinion on what has been observed. There are a great many facts, too many to list, that have led to posters forming their opinions about H+M. Many of the facts have already been mentioned up the thread. Those who deny that there are any reasons/facts for why people dislike Meghan’s behaviour need to have a look at why they think her behaviour is acceptable. For example, I have already mentioned this up thread, but here we go again, is it really acceptable for Meghan to turn up to Wimbledon to sit in the Royal Box wearing jeans, even though jeans are against the dress code? And then to decide to sit in the audience instead and demand that all the paying members of the public be cleared from their seats so Meghan need not sit near any members of the public except her friend. And additionally demand no one take pictures of her as she was there in a private capacity! Facts! It happened. We’ve all seen the photos.
There are plenty of facts available which show Meghan’s behaviour in a very poor light.

I think their performance this evening looked very rehearsed. I dislike the idea that they are adapting their behaviour to suit the moment. They want it all on their terms.

Or something else entirely. That's exactly what I am saying. Those attacking, gossiping and slandering the couple and all around them actually have no facts about what they thought or why they acted. Just nasty, very nasty and dangerous gossip. How on earth can that be justified?

There is a big difference in commenting on a fact; on what someone has actually said or done and trying to destroy the reputation of a woman on the basis of what you read in the gutter press. You have no idea what Megan or Harry or the Queen thinks or of what they do and say in private. You "imagine" or "believe" because it gives you something to criticise.

I appreciate that some of you cannot see the difference between fact and fiction but perhaps you might just try before you waft your religion under our noses and then try to attack other people. It is hypocritical.

As for "links" to the hypocrisy in the Church, well sometimes I don't reply, not because I don't have something to say but because of the question is simply stupid. Take this as one of those times.

A very good observation.
It’s interesting because when Trump visited the UK a great many posters criticised him, and there is a very recent thread where BJ is being roundly criticised. So now all criticism of people unknown can be described as ‘un Christian.’ So I must be un Christian because I find Meghan’s behaviour reprehensible.
