Keir Starmer .

suziewoozie Sun 05-Apr-20 16:09:15

There’s a story about a reshuffle TB did - he had the second rank posts to look at and wrote the names of current holders on post its. Story goes that Gisela Stewart’s name fell off the table. And so she wasn’t given a post. And ever informed of course ?

Galaxy Sun 05-Apr-20 16:03:11

grin. Thst made me smile, polite sackings. Surely Ian Lavery will be gone.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 16:01:11

Apparently he is being extremely polite in his sackings

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:56:43

Ian Lavery rumoured to be gone

Jon Trickett gone

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:49:42

Pleased to have you on board lemon and annie

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:48:33

Apparently the shadow cabinet announcements will be delayed as Starmer has been in meetings with Whitty, Sedwell and others.

suziewoozie Sun 05-Apr-20 15:47:32

I simply have to say that I really can’t be bothered to engage in any more discussions about the Blair years - or the Thatcher/Major/Cameron/May ones for that matter. The world has turned, exposing hidden faultlines and the new order will have little if anything at all to learn from the past.

suziewoozie Sun 05-Apr-20 15:42:29

Didn’t expect BG to survive - he’s tweeted a very gracious response

Grandad1943 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:40:28

MaizieD, in regard to your post @15:17 today, the Blair government is already remembered for the introduction of Zero Hours Employment contracts, the start of Gig Economy conditions of working, the British end of the Banking crisis and for bringing about the united kingdoms involment in the Iraq war.

Oh, and then there was the pledge to abolish at least parts of the Tory anti-trade union legislation which was never carried out.

Great socialist party policies in the above.

lemongrove Sun 05-Apr-20 15:36:18

WW..... Why shouldn’t I say it as I think? There are good and capable MP’s on all sides, Labour just hasn’t had a good leader in Corbyn, that can change with Keir Starmer.
I may not like all that he says and does, but so far ( early days)? he’s doing well.

Anniebach Sun 05-Apr-20 15:35:23

Barry Gardiner no longer in the shadow cabinet

suziewoozie Sun 05-Apr-20 15:34:05

Lindy the most irresponsible thing a LOTO could do now would be NOT to criticise the Government as appropriate. If you honestly think there isn’t /hasn’t been a problem with strategy, testing and PPE then you need to give your head a wobble ( thanks WW I’d let that one slip)

Grandad1943 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:23:06

Anniebach, in regard to post @15:01 today, I would be in favour of the whole Labour Party being brought within the broader Labour movement organisation.

The whole setup could be so much more straightforward and efficient with the present Labour party structure becoming the political wing of the whole movement.

I accept that the above would be a minority view within the overall Labour movement at present, but I believe it is a growing opinion that even those which are only members of the Labour Party and not the broader movement will eventually accept.

One organisation, one set of policies, one presentation of those policies and one single perception in the electorates eyes.

Galaxy Sun 05-Apr-20 15:21:49

I just didnt have the energy to address that point Maizie, in my experience it is usually said by people who dont need a labour government.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:21:27

Blimey lemon

MaizieD Sun 05-Apr-20 15:17:05

You take my breath away, Ug. Amazed that no-one else has picked y0u up on this nonsense.

... he will achieve nothing in office. Just like New Labour.

Watch the video in this tweet. Then tell us that New Labour achieved nothing...

It would be interesting to know just what it is that you would like Starmer to 'achieve'. Do you have any interest at all in how people's lives could be made better?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:14:50

bluecat jaycee of course there are 100s of thousands of people perhaps many more who supported Corbyn and will be sad at his resignation. But this is the way of the world in politics. Ever onwards?

Susieq62 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:13:32

I am so relieved that he has been elected. I have every respect for his integrity and honesty. He has no frills and was excellent as DPP. His speech was carefully worked with a measured approach to what we are dealing with as a nation. I hope that the media barons back off . I despise them anyway and do not trust them to speak the truth.
Starmer has a long haul ahead and he needs as many behind him as possible. I truly hope he can work alongside the Government to affect good decisions and allow common sense to prevail.

Jaycee5 Sun 05-Apr-20 15:07:50

Bluecat Agreed. There are quite a few of us here but most have learnt that not to say much on this site.

lemongrove Sun 05-Apr-20 15:06:29

Starmer spoke well on Andrew Marr this morning, so far so good.

Anniebach Sun 05-Apr-20 15:01:44

Seems the broader labour movement / the Unions are saying
give us what we want or you don’t get the ££££, sod what party members want

Grandad1943 Sun 05-Apr-20 14:57:06

Many thanks for the above Mamie. That is the first time I believe that should figures have been published following a Labour movement ballot.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 05-Apr-20 14:56:03

lindyloo Starmer is attending Cobra as well as other meeting at No 10, and will undoubtedly prove a valuable asset to all, but he also acting as an opposition in a democracy should act and that is to point out where the government has gone wrong. He wouldn’t be doing any of us any favours if he chose to keep silent.
