Armageddon

imitate, adapt, and improve while still enjoying emerging nation status under WTO rules. And yes, I do know that they're not the only nation taking the 'p'

remoaners

I'd credited you with more sense and more manners, Hetty. That's not a term in common use on Gnet. We've tended to stay reasonably polite with 'Leavers' and 'Remainers'

You Brexit lot are going to get such a shock when we leave transition with no trade deal with the EU (because there isn't time to get one now) and our, and the global, economy in dire straits because of covid-19. Unfortunately the rest of us are going to be dragged down with you...

Apocalypse!

A second wave of Covid19

Depression far worse than the Great One

Famine

Trump winning a second term

Nuclear war

Civil war

Swarms of murdering hornets ..

By leaving we've avoided paying Eurobonds (another example of paying more in than we'd ever get back).

I did wonder how long it would be, though - as the remoaners have been very quiet lately!

We had Brexit, Brexit, Brexit, ad nauseam, now it's Virus, Virus, Virus!

Have just checked for myself. It's 90 days out of 180 so you are right. However, most people with second homes stay within 180 days because of the residency rules so it's not going to make a lot of difference.

Dinahmo Mon 04-May-20 21:40:46

Ginnytonic i thought it was 90 days in 1 year but i'm willing to be corrected..

Urmstongran Mon 04-May-20 09:55:22

We usually live out her for a maximum of 6 weeks at a time and choose to spend more time in the U.K. anyway.
?
I’m still happy about it all.

Ginnytonic5 Mon 04-May-20 09:24:39

Urmstongran I too have a home in Spain (Sadly we can’t get there at the moment! ) But I hope you still think Brexit is a good idea when we are only allowed 90 days in then have to spend 90 days out ( and yes I know that’s supposed to be the rule now ) but it’s going to make a big difference to how we spend our time over there ....it also means that in those 90 days we are out ..we cannot even enter another European country ...freedom of travel will be a thing of the past .

Urmstongran Mon 04-May-20 09:04:58

Unsurprisingly I beg to differ regarding Brexit! We can spend our euro millions on ourselves, putting our own needs first. We were a major contributor. They let too many countries join and the propping up of some and levelling up of others can only get worse!

Glad we bailed.
?

I have a good feeling about Brexit. Italy will be next out.

Can’t help but agree with you Cindersdad The Chinese caused this and they will be the ones benefitting from it as they have us well and truly backed into a corner . angry

A conspiracy theorist might almost think it was deliberate .

NotSpaghetti Mon 04-May-20 08:37:15

All of the above!

Cindersdad Mon 04-May-20 07:12:02

Continuing to rely on Chinese manufacturing at the expense of our own manufacturing sector. It used to be the other way round until the 1980's. I worked for ICL in the late 1960's when they exported a number of 1906A computers (state of the art at that time) to China and Russia, in both the crated tech. was just left on the quayside. Again in the 1980's on contract to GPT when they exported a digital phone system to China for China railways, also left on the quayside. Now how different!

Continuing to rely on the service sector at the expense of manufacturing. Brexit is just one more self inflicted wound. The Asian countries followed "Imitate, adapt and improve" and look how well they have done while we just let them without learning any lessons.

Took your eye off the ball a bit there didn't you, lemon? This thread is nearly 3 weeks old. It's not like you to pass up a sniping opportunity for so long...
