The NHS saved my DH’s life last year so I have no reason not to think they are amazing . The very same NHS who has cancelled his operation for the 4th time . The one he should have had 2 years ago.

I tried to laugh off your suggestion that some NHS staff are on holiday but now I’m reading that you had a phone call from a consultant. You were peeved that he was ringing from home ie working from home. Please explain your logic because I really don’t get that.

Who said anyone was lazy ? They probably do want to work as usual but are being prevented from doing so, because the powers that be decided to “dirty” the hospitals with CV patients instead of using the Nightingales for what they were intended.

gillybab, I don't like the implication that doctors and nurses are somehow lazy - and hospitals are failing the public.

The NHS has been struggling, starved of funds and resources for decades.

The hard work and dedication of staff has compensated to a large degree, but miracles are impossible.

People have voted for that very situation - probably the exact same ones who now complain about it!

The NHS is absolutely not working to capacity . The (normal) wards are virtually empty. Very few consultant appointments going ahead .

I myself with my old fashioned knowledge of infection control could have handled the care home fiasco better than the the present government.

Actually gilly there was a ‘handbook’. It was our own and was called Cygnet or something like that, commissioned a few years ago that did set out all that needed to be done in a pandemic.

Most countries have their own, Obama even set up a task force to deal with pandemics drawing on respected scientists, epidemiologists, etc. The Orang-utan disbanded it when he came into office.

Many doctors and nurses are at home and taking turns at going in. I spoke to a consultant on the phone last week who was ringing me from home . Also my sister works in the NHS (not nursing ) and she has confirmed this also .

What Still puzzles me is where was the CV handbook ? Who knew that their response was going to be any different /better than anyone else’s ?

And what about those poor people who are suffering or dying from lack of care by the very same hospitals fighting to save those with CV ?

I can’t understand why they didn’t use the Nightingale hospitals for what they were intended and keep our hospitals “clean” and working .

I know it was Belgium Furret as I said I saw it in the news yesterday and my opinion stands.

Is everyone in every country completely in agreement with how their government is dealing with the virus?

Some in Sweden for example are not in favour of how life there is pretty much carrying on as normal, meanwhile the ban on cigarettes and alcohol in S. Africa as we saw on the news last night, is definitely not universally popular!

gillybob well perhaps they could show leadership. The kind of leadership shown in New Zealand, Australia, Germany, South Korea and other countries who have kept their death rates down.

After all leadership is what they signed up for....actually scrap that thought. Boris never signed up for that did he?
