Will he resign?

News breaking tonight that Dominic Cummings and his wife, when ill with Covid-19, put their child in the car and drove 260 miles from London to Durham so that they could isolate at his parent's place and his parents look after the child. This happened some time after 27th March. Remember lockdown was imposed on 23rd March.

Seen in his parent's garden with his child on 5th April.

Neil Fergusson resigned because his lover visited his house after lockdown.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer had to resign after visiting her second home twice after lockdown.

Cummings and his wife drive 260 miles to stay with his parents (who must be in their 60s at the very least)... What will he do?

Story is in most of the MSM now.

I’ve just seen a tweet dated 10 May, asking why Cummings is in Durham.

It seems he is as often in Durham as he is London!

Good for you. nanna58. A discerning voter not a slavish “he’s Tory therefore can do no wrong”

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:55:05

It's fact.

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:54:20

What if he’d had an accident on the way to Durham?

What if I came round and murdered you Whitewave? But I didn't and am therefore not only not guilty of murder but you would not be accusing me of it. IT DID NOT HAPPEN. You are making the proverbial mountain of transfer of the virus out of the molehill of the journey. You are, in fact, building on gossip nothing more, nothing less.

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:54:10

There is no evidence concerning thinking that you may get ill.

Jishere Sun 24-May-20 17:53:54

Regardless of who was suppose to be the child carer it makes no odds when everyone is following the rules and DC has flaunted them.

silverlining48 Sun 24-May-20 17:53:44

I wrote to my MP today. I think it’s thanks to those who did express their disgust that made so many Tory MPs put their heads above the parapet.

nightowl Sun 24-May-20 17:53:10

GGumteeth I’m very familiar with the guidance issued on March 23rd and I believe the term ‘self-isolate’ was used to mean just that - isolation at home, not in your second home, or family member’s home, or anywhere else you fancy. Also that you should not leave your home for any reason whatsoever. I am willing to be corrected if you have any other evidence.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 17:52:13

No it didn’t. On March 27th the guidance was that if you had symptoms you did not leave your HOME under any circumstances.

If you had difficulties of childcare etc, you should contact you council, doctor etc.

Everyone who followed these guidelines - which was the entire the country - can’t be wrong.

Nanna58 Sun 24-May-20 17:51:11

Oh , and before anyone thinks Im only saying this to have a political pop I am. Conservative.

silverlining48 Sun 24-May-20 17:51:03

And the world is watching this embarrassment of a PM.
For shame. This will cause more lives to be lost. Do as I say not as I do.
None of the questioners were allowed a come back and if I hear BJ repeating fir the nth time about Cummings and his ‘14 days or more isolation’ ....I will scream!

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:50:20

Our kids have just texted to say they're obeying their parental instincts and will be dropping our grandkids off with us tomorrow.

I am so sorry to hear your "kids" have CV19 Greeneyedgirl or is it that you just brought them up not to think for themselves and do the best they can for both you and their children?

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:50:20

'you should not visit family members who do not live in your home'.

nightowl Sun 24-May-20 17:49:49

Jishere ??

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 17:48:54

What if he’d had an accident on the way to Durham?

There wasn’t a single question answered by Johnson.

Tory MPs are asking for Cummings resignation, largely as a result of the pressure from their constituents.

Hetty58 Sun 24-May-20 17:48:17

BJ has got it very badly wrong. He's managed to annoy the millions who've stuck to the rules on isolation. Who can defend his actions now?

Jabberwok Sun 24-May-20 17:48:10

had no contact!

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:47:49

GGumteeth please can you point me to where in the guidance issued on March 23rd it said it was OK for someone who was self-isolating due to having symptoms of coronavirus (or living with someone with symptoms) to leave their home for any reason whatsoever?

I checked earlier to ensure it as there before I used it in my argument nightowl. Perhaps you could use your own resources instead of mine and check that it isn't before you base your argument on a lie.

Nanna58 Sun 24-May-20 17:47:44

Well, what an arrogant, evasive and thoroughly nasty piece of work...Boris I mean as well as Cummings. A performance that should make Johnson hang his head in shame!!!

Jabberwok Sun 24-May-20 17:46:58

The grandparents were NOT involved with the child care! This was to be the responsibility of his younger sister and niece! NOT his parents who had contact and never would have had any contact with his child! I'm not condoning his actions but do get the facts correct! It was not the grandparents!

Bluecat Sun 24-May-20 17:45:39

Watching Johnson bluster pathetically is just depressing, and the questioners were feeble. Why didn't anyone ask why Cummings couldn't get local childcare?

It's a slap in the face for all the families who struggled to stick to the rules, for the sake of other people, sometimes in the most difficult circumstances. Look at all the posts on here over the past few weeks, from grandparents who wanted to help their children and couldn't. Now Johnson and Co say it was fine all along.

Hopelessly corrupt.

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:45:12

They obviously bank on a percentage of the public being naive idiots. Thankfully not all of us are though.

Just because people don't agree with your point of view does not mean they are naive. I could equally think it true of all those being led by the nose by a malicious press and those who were anti either the Conservatives, the PM or DC and just wanted a story they could blow out of all proportion, although naive might not be the word I used to describe such people.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 17:44:14

Don’t be silly gumteenth that isn’t gossip, it is fact.

If you travel with the covid virus which has been acknowledged as being extraordinarily catching everyone with whom you come in contact with will be in danger.

Jishere Sun 24-May-20 17:43:12

But Nightowl what home is that ?? The one his hiding in or the one he owns.

Kandinsky Sun 24-May-20 17:42:41

Can’t wait to hear what Piers Morgan has to say on the matter.
