Even if Cummings resigns he'll still be privately talking to the PM and telling him what to do. And he'll still have links with the company that will be responsible for having all of our data when the app is up and running. Can't wait for 5 o'clock. Fascinating.

I haven't read the complete thread, sorry, but the thing that annoys me more than Cummings and his behaviour, his lies, his wife's lies, is the weak, pathetic defence by cabinet ministers. The way they have justified it as if we, the public, don't understand, we are at fault for not being able to interpret the rules, or even that we are bad parents because we would stick to the rules to the detriment of our children's health. It was most unedifying to watch the accomplished liar Grant Schapps on Marr this morning, he wriggled and blustered, got his dates wrong, it was pathetic. So, we have Schapps telling lies, Johnson we know is a liar, Mrs Cummings is too. The whole thing is rotten to the core. This is beyond politics, it is a moral issue and I seriously judge anyone who thinks this type of behaviour is acceptable. I have no doubt that there will be accusations of 'leftie' by the usual predictable posters, but this is not politics, it is my moral code, I don't like liars.

Ggumteenth Stupid people who have flouted the rules would have done it anyway without any help from DC.

It would seem that it is hearsay evidence against DC which of course he denies. Without sufficient evidence no one can say who is right and who is wrong!

Oh, for the good old days when a political scandal was followed by a resignation. It has always amazed me that Donald Trump has survived scandal after scandal, simply by brazening it out. Looks like the UK government has taken a leaf out of the Orange One's book. None of them have any shame.

I have read through this very long thread and have been interested to see that some people have swallowed the official story of poor Dominic driving (everyone in the car with their legs firmly crossed) to get the childcare that he strangely couldn't access in London. Did his wife's London relatives turn their backs on him? Does he have no friends? (Maybe.) Does he have no aides? His sister had to bring him food parcels - well, we all know that there are no takeaways in London. I imagine him crouched over his computer, frantically trying to get a Tesco slot. "It's no use, darling, we'll have to drive to Durham. Put the Portapotty in the car."

When I pointed out on Facebook that Cummings could have got help in London, someone called me "a lefty basted." Made me feel like an oven-ready turkey.

Leaders should lead by example. Cummings broke the rules and the PM should sack him as his advisor. If government makes rules, everyone must obey them but particularly those who have been involved in making the rules. Otherwise the PMs own leadership and integrity is in question. That he appears to be trying to excuse Cummings shows that he does not have leadership qualities but is all front and bluff and Cummings is the person who is really running this country. Someone who has not been elected and is not answerable to the public. How many people have died of Covid19 in care homes? Hong Kong -0. Singapore-0. South Korea-0. UK-20,000. Why have we done so badly in comparison to countries we once ruled? Is it because the Cummings/Johnson led government is incompetent? Or were they willing to sacrifice thousands of elderly British people? Many people on gransnet will be elderly themselves. Do you believe you are valueless? Wake up. Is this who you want to trust with your future because you want to be kind to Cummings and not think about politics? Politics will affect you and your family whether you think about them or not.

I would be terrified for my life if I caught it and was severely ill with it. I agree he was wrong but decisions you make if you think you could die are not always correct and rational decisions. We're all human.
