According to twitter Cummings has told Kuenssberg that he intends to take questions later from the press, after making a statement.

Bloody hell since when have civil servants been so politicised? This is truly dreadful and goes entirely against our constitution.

This is another reason as to why Cummings and questionably Johnson position is untenable.

When you boil all this down it’s quite simple. Because of Johnson’s actions in March there are people now dead who would otherwise be alive, and because of his actions yesterday there are people now alive who will shortly be dead.

It's the fact that he has never apologised or shown the slightest empathy with the rest of us, while we have stayed home for ten weeks now (we began early!) apart from one supermarket foray at about 8 p.m. once a week. I feel there many people in government just waiting for D.C. to make a mistake, and then the knives are out, but this time he has gone too far.

If the multiple sightings are found to be true, if there is not a valid and proven reason for DC to be in other parts of Durham then he should fall on his sword .

Martin Daubeney (MEP although only for a brief period) said this morning on Jeremy Vine that he no longer supported Cummings actions. The reason - this morning the D Mail has come out in favour of Cummings being removed. However, he then went on to explain that this is being orchestrated by the Remainers.

If the sightings are true, then that is weird!! Why on earth would you go anywhere particularly when parents clearly have a large property, easy for isolation and exercise! Hmmmm!

The sightings are absolutely likely to be true. The Cummings are a very well known, long established local family. Dom's grandfather had a sports shop in Durham City, his father had what Peter Stringfellow described as 'the worst nightclub in the country' in Durham City. Dominic went to Durham school, very popular with local middleclasses; he'll be known by lots of his fellow former pupils. He is a very familiar figure.

He has been spotted in Durham quite a few times over the past couple of months. Some people tweeted that they'd seen him and the dates of their tweets can't be falsified.

People have been warning about Cummings for the past two or three years (or more) but the Brexiters were so determined to 'get Brexit done' that they were prepared to shut their eyes to everything but that. We're reaping what they sowed now...

I cant believe the tory sheep are still defending this cretin.My friend lost her 34 year old son, 2 of my sons friends lost their mums,two of my daughters friends lost dads,an old employee died ,my husbands uncle died .more than half of these had no underlying health issues .WE dont take risks because we know that people might die because of it .Cummings supposedly helped make the law that HE broke .
Two of these people were slightly ill in the morning and dead by evening..it doesn't affect everyone the same way .Why would you risk your childs life driving 250 miles IF you knew the facts ?

Or he could have done what the rest of the population, who fell ill whilst looking after their young children during lockdown did and SUCK IT UP, GET ON WITH IT AND COPE. But he didn't do what he told everyone else to do, did he?

Or he could have asked the relative that lives not far from him in London.

Well JenniferEccles he could have asked a relative to drive to his London home and be there in case they were needed. Thus not breaking lockdown for infected people safeguarding the public and keeping his autistic? son in a safe and known environment where he had access to the main adults in his life and was still cared for.

I would like to ask again.....

What else could he have done to ensure childcare for his son which wouldn’t have broken the guidelines?

It’s all very well to say that he should have done what everyone else would do but what IS that?

No you would ask someone trusted to come into your home. One person is then at risk not potentially many people on the journey/ stay, who could have been affected by their actions. As someone else has pointed out autistic children like a routine, not complete change of surroundings etc This is grabbing at straws as an excuse.

Look back in this thread for the link to the really interesting audio account of the illness from his wife. Sounds ridiculous that anyone in that state of health would drive at all. Totally reckless on so many levels

Maizie They didn't need to get the Guardian and Mirror to co-operate. They didn't report fake news. I'm sure Cummings and his family did go to Durham, which broke all the rules. If the Guardian and Mirror had reported anti-government news, while the others were supporting anti-lockdown measures, there would have been the usual arguments. They've been much more clever and underhand than that. People are so offended that they'll break lockdown themselves.

However, none of this stacks up. It really doesn't. Go through the news over the last week or so and see what else has been going on. Take the Cummings story out of the equation for a moment and just see how much hasn't been reported.

Atqui even giving credence to your argument, it does not explain why, before his period of quarantine was up, did he take his family to a public area 30 miles away from where he was staying? He spoke to people there, their are witnesses to attest to his being there. And why, having then driven back to London, did he go back to Durham the following week and drive his family to another public area where he was again seen?

I doubt very much that the grandparents property was a strange place for this little boy. I expect he knows the family well and is at ease with the property. Perhaps this is not the case with the family in London.

I'm almost sure that faced with that sort of dilemma I would have done exactly the same as the thought of any child let alone one with autism being collected by strangers in full corona outfits would be a complete no no! The terror for that child would be impossible to describe I would certainly have paid a fine if deemed appropriate.
