Can you think of a Prime Minister worse than Johnson?

I don’t mean whether you agree with certain political policies, I am talking about competence, knowledge and integrity.

I truthfully can’t think of a single one.

All PMs have a weakness, no doubt but this goes beyond anything I’ve every seen or read.

Lucca Thu 28-May-20 09:36:35

I suppose it depends on what you mean by “worse”.
For me Cameron for doing the whole Brexit referendum and then disappearing.
As far as incompetence goes then Johnson.
I’d like Jacinda or someone like her.

LadyGracie Thu 28-May-20 09:34:30

Tony Blair. Teresa May.

I agree Boris Johnson is unwell, he felt he had to come back, but it was too soon. No one knows the long term effects of this virus, as I learned for myself yesterday.

Firecracker123 Thu 28-May-20 09:33:56

Less than 2000 people were polled in the Yougov poll hardly representative of the people of the UK.

Galaxy Thu 28-May-20 09:29:47

Er have you seen his current approval rating.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 09:28:42

Isn’t competent though.

In fact is very incompetent.

Perhaps Chamberlain can be compared?

Firecracker123 Thu 28-May-20 09:26:33

Boris is the most popular Conservative PM ever with a stomping 80 seat majority.

Firecracker123 Thu 28-May-20 09:23:05

Perhaps Gordon Brown and Tony Blair joint winners smile

Pantglas2 Thu 28-May-20 09:22:28

This thread has made me smile because it’s obvious that every PM makes mistakes in someone’s eyes depending on your leanings. Isn’t it lovely that we’re free to criticise in this country without being ‘disappeared’!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 09:21:44

None of you get the point though do you? Or perhaps you do and can’t think of a less competent PM than Johnson so attack policies.

That is easy to do, we can all attack policies.

Much more difficult to identify a less competent PM

Jabberwok Thu 28-May-20 09:12:50

The same Gordon Brown who is now appearing on TV Boris bashing! Don't forget raiding pension pots!!!!

Firecracker123 Thu 28-May-20 09:07:37

Tony Blair he's top of my list.

lemongrove Thu 28-May-20 09:07:23

??Exactly Jabberwock

Firecracker123 Thu 28-May-20 09:06:36

Gordon Brown who gave away our gold.

Jabberwok Thu 28-May-20 09:04:04

Remember Wilson with the £ in your pocket?!! Mrs Thatcher a good PM!!!! I'm amazed to read that!! Edward Heath who sold out fishing?! The truth is that before social media politicians could say and do and hide things that today they can't! I think some of them were weak and ineffectual as they have been throughout history.

Anniebach Thu 28-May-20 09:02:51

‘Hindsight is a wonderful thing ‘

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 08:55:46

Blimey untold thousands Of unnecessary deaths due to slow lockdown.

Just think what he’ll manage to do in 5 years!

lemongrove Thu 28-May-20 08:50:28

grin Annie.....yes, five years would have to have passed before we can say anything definite.

Anniebach Thu 28-May-20 08:45:33

Johnson has been PM for 5 months

GagaJo Thu 28-May-20 08:25:33

He missed 5 Cobra meetings and went on holiday as the virus was ramping up.

BEFORE he had C19.

He’s not struck down by illness. He’s doing what he’s always done as PM (and what all of his previous employers/schools have said -lazy). Leaving the work to someone else. Avoiding as much as possible. Lying.

He’s a joke. A puppet PM.

lemongrove Thu 28-May-20 08:19:50

As many other posters have mentioned, we have had some
‘Pearlers’? before this as PM’s, and remember, Johnson wasn’t chosen by all those who vote Conservative, only by Conservative members.I wouldn’t have voted for him I have to say but.......he did manage to release us from the awful ‘log jam’ of a wilfully paralysed Parliament, got Brexit moving etc. This awful pandemic has tested political leaders
everywhere and Johnson was hard hit by the virus himself.
Never a ‘details’ man I think he is struggling with the after effects of the virus and being in intensive care. That’s why, where he can he is allowing ministers to step in for him.
I have no doubts as to his intelligence, he has never been articulate ( except for short replies) and tends to ramble, but that’s how he is.Cameron was smooth and very articulate indeed, and intelligent, but in the end made a poor PM!

PetitFromage Thu 28-May-20 08:03:12

I don't know why anyone is surprised that Boris is such a disaster. We had a foretaste of what was to come when he was Foreign Secretary. He doesn't even pretend to have any interest in public service. He just wants the title and prestige without putting in a day's work.

I agree that he doesn't look well, but he wasn't up to much before the virus stuck him down. An idiot, a clown, a buffoon, weak, lazy, a man who is totally out of his depth.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 08:00:32

“We’ve reached the point where the only way to understand the state the country is in is to realise that it has become a banana republic run by a bad joke of a prime minister, who prioritises the job security of his elite advisors over the health of millions. A man who sees no need to be across the most basic points of policy and is so inarticulate that he can’t Ben start a sentence let alone finish one”

Crace

Gingster Thu 28-May-20 07:47:36

We had such hopes of Boris. He hasn’t been the same since he had the virus. Very disappointing. Can’t bear to watch him

Greta Thu 28-May-20 07:43:33

Ajswan: ”What other country is giving 80% of a workers salary , and helping the self-employed amongst other things. ”

Well, why don't you find out? The Scandinavian countries have been supportive. Sweden for instance is paying 90% to its workers. Why would you assume that no other country could be as generous as the UK?

Sparkling : ”...the huge and overwhelmingly unprescedented amount of people that voted to say get Boris in get Brexit done, will be forever grateful to him. ”

Getting Brexit done doesn't mean our existence outside the EU will be a successful one, does it? We will now have to live through it, work through it, and be forever grateful. Or, pick up the pieces.

Evie64 : ”He may not be perfect but who's to say he feels on top of the world. He's not long come out of intensive care. ”

He is our Prime Minister. His job is to lead our country. If he is not functioning for whatever reason somebody else must take over.

He's totally out of his depth and his Government will go down as one of the worst when the history books are written. I happen to agree about Tony Blair also being forever identified by the Iraq War. A huge error of judgement and responsible for so much human misery. That was a shame as on domestic policy he was excellent, not least that it was a period when the public services were adequately funded.

Part of the reason for the problems we are experiencing are, as another poster has said, down to the deliberate under-funding of all public services. You can't suddenly have good public services after a decade of under-investment. My husband used to run County-wide day services for disabled people - this service is now no longer available. A casualty of deliberate cuts to local Council budgets by the Tories. It has been replaced by a fragmented private sector provision which is not fit for purpose. And apparently getting worse, according to a former colleague who has been in touch this week. Likewise children's services, mental health, education and the NHS. I can only assume those people praising Johnson and the Tories must live in a strange bubble - lucky them -for the rest of us the reality is staring us in the face. It is not going to end well.
