Just how pathetic is Boris going to be allowed to be?

I could not believe that he was attempting to blame Kier Starmer and the unions for the schools not opening yesterday. Does he not take responsibility for anything?

The schools are doing all they can. They are moving heaven and earth to get their schools open even though there is a lack of guidance and what there is tends to lack clarity. If I was a suspicious person I would think he is doing that deliberately so he can blame others.

Listening to the Head Teacher of an independent school was saying how he was able to open his school for all his pupils because he class sizes were already 15. He defended the state schools for the lack of provision of additional buildings and teachers. Neither the teachers, nor the unions, nor Keir Starmer can magic up the money for those.

This government made the error right at the beginning of treating CV like flu. Remember the Boris boasting he had shaken everyone's hand? That just proved him a fool didn't it. Remember the late lock-down? Starmer has tried to work with the government but if the gloves are off - taken off by the arrogant Johnson and his adviser - then let's have a proper, judge run look at what has happened so far with the lot that are "governing" the country - or so they tell us.

Urmstongran in that letter they applauded teachers and school staff for the efforts they have made but they recognised it was a government failing and nothing to do with the teachers.

Urmstongran Sat 20-Jun-20 19:52:18

Didn’t 150 paediatricians send Boris a letter a few days ago urging the government to send children back to school? That’s a lot of experts. Surely their opinion ought to count for something? Why Aren’t you grans reassured by their viewpoint?

This actually was Wednesdays lie but just in case anyone missed it

Full Fact
@FullFact

Sir Keir Starmer claimed at #PMQs that 600,000 more children are in poverty than in 2012, which is correct according to government data.

So Boris Johnson was incorrect to say that Mr Starmer is “completely wrong” about past trends in child poverty.

Can I say a word as well for all those children suffering from conditions which will mean they won't be able to go into school and possibly neither will their siblings. The children with asthma, diabetes and other conditions about 1 in 7 children have such illnesses. The government of course won't even know they exist.

I worry for my grandson as it is Ggumteenth. That C19 related Kawasaki disease sounds horrific. I know his chances of catching it are low, but doesn't stop me worrying. No nursery for him yet. Much as he'd love it.

GGumteenth Sat 20-Jun-20 15:34:02

In reply to the name callers I am pleased the child is happy but I do not want to die; I do not want others to die either. That does not seem unreasonable to me.

I am aware there are upticks in numbers in some countries and a second closing of schools. I am also aware that my GC's schools in Australia are back very much to normal and have seen no rise but then this is a country that went into lockdown some 10 days before ours with very low rates of infection and only ever had 12 CV related deaths.

I am also aware that my mother died in her care home in mid February. CV was not on her death certificate but one other resident had died a few days before her with a similar illness. The home then went into lockdown a full five weeks before the government locked down the country. Four more residents died between mum's death and her funeral. We had still not locked down at that point.

I know that knowing would not make any difference and I would rather believe it was her time to go but this does not, for some inexplicable reason, stop me being sadder than I would be if I didn't have this at the back of my mind. Like many, I feel unable to trust this government not to say whatever suits them and believe they would try to blame anyone but themselves - we have watched them do it. We have seen the "care" they take where the elderly are concerned so why would we be surprised if we find they have the same levels of "care" when it comes to our children?

I will blame them for every unnecessary death - and we know there have already been many. If me saying it like it is makes people stop and ask the questions they should be asking the odd bit of name calling from the odd granny is probably worth it.

Just because I don't agree with your point of view Shelmiss and, as always and not unexpectedly Lemongrove, does not make me a nasty person it just makes me someone who, for good reason, holds a different point of view.

I don't have comprehensive data, but some schools in France and Germany have been forced to close again after being open less than a week. Whole classes and the families of the whole classes have been quarantined.

MaizieD Sat 20-Jun-20 12:13:09

See my post at 11.09, Ramblingrose re UK schools.

Don't forget that schools have mostly been open throughout for children of keyworkers. It's not a case of 're-opening' but of bringing more children back into school.

Ramblingrose22 Sat 20-Jun-20 12:09:07

Sorry if this has bee dealt with in previous posts but does anyone know if the schools that are open in other countries if the number of cases has increased since then?

I ask because if children don't normally catch the virus and experience from other countries that have re-opened their schools shows that cases haven't gone up, that could indicate that children are not carriers and it would be safe to re-open schools here.

I realise of course that parents collecting their children would still have to maintain social distancing. and that it may be difficult to maintain social distancing for older children using public transport to get from home to school and vice versa.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 20-Jun-20 12:06:35

I see that they lied about the number of deaths in the daily figures. Not that I’m surprised, but how could they lie over that?

Dads, sons, husbands, mums and wives and daughters all written out of the figures. My goodness you would go a long way to find such disgraceful behaviour.

MaizieD Sat 20-Jun-20 12:04:38

They're not ignoring social distancing up my way. All our local shops are exemplary, everyone observes the queues and distancing in shops. Can see everyone taking care in the local outdoor market, too.

Proud of my adopted county grin

But I know what you mean, Maybee. People in crowded places look to me to be far more casual about distancing.

GagaJo Sat 20-Jun-20 12:00:20

Hear, hear, GGumteenth. My grandson won't be going to nursery anytime soon.

Although if his mum was a keyworker, we would have to find an alternative arrangement.

MayBee70 Sat 20-Jun-20 11:58:25

I don’t know why they don’t just announce now that the two metre rule will be replaced by one metre. As with lockdown/school closures etc we all know they’re going to do it whatever the science says so they might as well just do it. Everyone seems to be ignoring social distancing anyway. The herd plan immunity never went away.

No-one with a modicum of intelligence or common sense would want to take this on.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 20-Jun-20 11:20:51

mawb If it gets too bad, there could be a challenge to his leadership. I would think that there are plenty of alarm bells ringing already.

But the pity is that anyone with a modicum of intelligence and legitimacy has been pushed out.

If only.

If only there was anybody else in the running

If only we didn’t have fixed term parliaments.

Bully for him, Ug, but his enjoyment of being back in school doesn't remove the risks.

Just an update to add a bit of anecdotal balance. Our 7y old grandson has just had his first full week back in school. With hot dinners too! That bit surprised me - I thought he’d have to take a lunchbox in. Anyway, He told me yesterday he’d had ‘spicy chicken wrap grandma with chips’ and ‘guess what, we all took turns playing tennis with Mr.B....’ (teacher). He’s enjoying being back (reduced class size) with his friends. Lucky boy. I could hear the happiness in his voice!

Another u-turn.

The government made great play over gaining our “sovereignty” and amongst other things leaving the Galileo project, maintaining that the U.K. would invest in its own “world beating” system.

We have now apparently shuttled back from that idea and are looking at the American One web - a system that went bankrupt in March! We apparently are prepared to invest in it.

Our GPS navigation systems are under threat.

I’ve come to the conclusion, that nothing this government says and Johnson in particular is true, especially in the more difficult areas.

This government is imo no longer legitimate.
