Which Lib Dem newspaper would you prefer to be quoted from Vegan ? Is there one??
How did you vote and why today
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
Voting. I’m so glad we still have the ‘old fashioned’ system…

post-Brexit - should France still be helping to stop the influx to the UK?
What do you think?

So it seems these migrants are fleeing from the hellhole that is er...France?
Well who'd have thought it fleeing from France and there was I after reading post after post on here from the Remainers saying how wonderful the EU countries were lol but obviously not for the illegals they prefer £40 a week pocket money, staying in a 4 star hotel and full board, who knew.
Its our Government's fault I voted for Boris but I'm gradually losing faith in him and Priti Patel, come back Nigel please.
Firecracker Why don’t you understand that France/Germany/Spain has far more asylum seekers than the U.K. ? This blinkered idea that the whole world is beating a path to these shores. Those coming from Calais aren’t fleeing France anymore than those Brits who migrate from the U.K. to Canada, NZ, and , yes, lots to France and Spain are escaping from The “hellhole” that is the U.K. - to use your terminology.
lemongrove I wasn’t criticising the Torygraph - they are saying what I’ve been saying for years we need more rigour in our employment practices to protect all workers. I’d be happy to carry an ID card. I don’t quite understand why the tories were always against it.
Maybe- shock horror! We should get together with Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and agree on policies to deal with the migrant issue. We could even have free trade between these countries.
No point in doing that though vegan as nothing has worked up to now anyway. Being in the EU didn’t solve a thing for us regarding migrants.
...or for any other country in the EU come to that.
It didn’t solve problems for France, Spain, Greece and Italy either, but surely working together is the only way forward, rather than moaning about the past, not just sending in the gunboats, not that we’ve got any.
Nortsat if the migrants only receive £37.75 per week then how do they live? Do they live in tents, on the streets or do they get given accommodation on top of this amount? I cannot see how they could only be given this amount when they are not allowed to work. Someone must know the true figures rather than snippets of what they have been told via media or friends of friends. It just doesn’t add up. Plus there is health care on top of that.

I was being flippant you should try it sometimes
If only the haters of the UK would flee.
Silent Games the so called migrants receive nearly £40 a week pocket money, full board and lodgings in 3 and 4 star hotels, some Old Age Pensioners would like that I sure.
Also full heath and dental care what's not to like. I can't even register with a NHS dentist where I live.
Some of the posters claiming other countries have taken in far more than the UK, France for instance, need to look at the sizes of these countries. The UK is a small island and we need migration control. I get so tired of those jumping on the racism accusations if any one expresses concerns. You need to explain what you mean when you are accusing posters of being racist. My very dear friend is black and she reads these posts and assumes these who condem others are standing on their soap boxes holding their halo’s. These coming over on boats are trafficked paying enormous amounts of money to criminals. I suppose I’m going to get slaughtered now!
@ Silent Games - all views are welcomed ( or should be) on here, so keep posting.
My own view is that, when we have a problem such as this , so complicated, a few previous similarities but against a different health (Covid)/socio/eoconomic background, we need as many varied opinions as possible .
Also taking into account our Parl. system and our traditional history of compassion towards those who are downtrodden elsewhere in this big bad world.
Firecracker123 posts - "If only the haters of the UK would flee."
Most of the haters of the UK are already elsewhere. Vladimir Putin lives in Moscow. Rupert Murdoch in the USA or is it Australia?
These are just two of the people who have done huge damage to our country.
SilentGames - how they live on under £40 a week, or about £75 for a mother and two children, is with great difficulty. Yes, rent on a room, or a small terraced house is paid direct to the landlord but food, clothes, heat, etc all come out of that allowance.
They aren't allowed to work. Many of these people are skilled they've been teachers, engineers for example in their war torn home countries.
I’m wary of posting anything further on this thread as 2 of my posts got deleted this afternoon by GNHQ. I don’t know whether someone reported me but I honestly thought my posts were measured.

We can and should expect our partners and allies to work in cooperation so we can help each other. If however you choose to separate from those allies and work openly against them and refuse to agree to terms we ahve negotiated and agreed with them - then I see no reason whatsoever why they should continue to help. Simple.
Exactly!

Carry on posting Urmstongran there was nothing wrong with your posts at all, how ridiculous they were deleted. Some posters on here who continually report posts to HQ because they are offended or they don't agree that other posters might have a different view from them need to get out and get a life in my opinion.
Being flippant again? I’m not sure calling another neighbouring civilised country a hellhole is my idea of flippancy but maybe my notion of humour is that it should be funny.
I’m finding this thread rather depressing. Use of the word “illegals”, the idea that pensioners would like to live on less than £40 a week for all living costs except the roof over their head, the distortion of facts...
Why is it so hard to accept that the UK does very little to support migrants? Per head of population, today’s migrant people are a tiny proportion.
And, why do we treat asylum seekers so badly. Just because other countries may treat them worse is not enough. These people are in a legitimate process to show they are unsafe in their home country, we should treat them with the respect we would treat any neighbour in trouble.
Many of our families came here from elsewhere over generations. They brought their skills and ambitions with them, they worked to create a life for themselves and paid taxes like other people. They may have fled their home country - but it made them no less a person for doing so.
The boat loads of young fit men coming over from France are not asylum seekers they are illegal immigrants.

Is that why Urmstongrans post was deleted because she called France a Hellhole. Good grief some people need to get a life how ridiculous reporting her post and even more ridiculous that HQ deleted it.
How do you know this Firecracker123? It seems ridiculous to me that you know this...
My understanding is that GNHQ doesn’t monitor posts so those which get deleted are reported by another poster.
It interests me how this is always done in a cowardly way, ie anonymously.
There was an interesting thread last week about the problem of malicious, hoax threads.
Lots of interesting comments until, mysteriously, the thread was deleted.
