It was racism I was thinking of. Actively wishing harm to asylum seekers who are clearly not white British. Very unpleasant. And a good reason, IMO.

They are illegal immigrants and have broken our laws to enter the country. On this basis alone, they should be immediately deported. I cannot see why we don't have boats patrolling our waters so that they can turn them around. GB's finances are already in a parlous state - we do not need people who have not contributed to the pot and will be drain all of the time they are with us.

I think generally we are regarded abroad as a decent and honourable people, we are admired fir doing the right thing and that is what attracts, as well as the fact that most foreigners speak English as a second language and often have family over here which they understandably would like to be close to for support while they do the jobs we no longer want to do.
As to what our border forces will do, they will do what they can under difficult circumstances.... but we aren’t very organised are we, people can and will come in under the radar which means if they are not officially here there will be even more rough sleeping. We don’t have ID cards nor do we have to ( by law) report to the local police if we move to a different area.
As far as I see we have shot our selves in the foot by leaving Europe and have no option now but to stand alone from 1.1.21 and hope for the best.

Mind you, I'm sure that our government has been taking notes and is dying to try the same treatment out in the UK...

Ten years of tory 'austerity', which was completely unnecessary, and the tory ambition to cut public spending as far as they possibly can (for no good reason, either) is the reason that public services and infrastructure are stretched to breaking point. Not immigration. That's just a myth put about by our disgustingly xenophobic right wing press...

We actually need immigrants as our ageing population retires and there are not enough young people to replace them in jobs.

Considering all the misinformation that is exchanged everywhere on social media, in the press etc. there's no guarantee that he's correct. In fact, he isn't. You'd like to believe it, though, wouldn't you, so that you can get cross about it...

It's not difficult to find what other European countries provide for asylum seekers; the UK isn't as generous as you'd like to believe. I can link you to other websites...

The net population in the UK is increasing by 250,000 every year that is fact, we have to control migration.
It’s nothing to do with being left or right we simply must look after our own interests, we what goes on in the rest of the world we cannot control or even influence these days.

The asylum-seekers from Russia, Iran and Afghanistan filed a complaint after spending months sleeping rough. The ECHR ordered France to pay damages, saying the men suffered "degrading treatment."
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on Thursday ordered France to pay compensation to three asylum-seekers who spent months sleeping on the street without any financial support.

Asylum seekers who register in France get much the same benefits as those registered in the UK. A small cash allowance and accommodation. Accommodation could be anything from a house to B & B with no choice of destination.

If they expect anything better from the UK they must have been reading the Sun, or the Daily Express...

I have seen it suggested that there is an increase in boat traffic because it is getting very difficult to hide in lorries.

Of course it's a dead cat. This has been going on for ages with no media attention. Covid rates rise, the right wing distraction machine swings into action.

By all means, obsess about immigration. But for god's sake, at least acknowledge that you are aware you're being manipulated by the press. Otherwise you're just a pawn.
