Oh Harry.

Please leave the political comments to Meghan.

Just keep it zipped

Mm- Worship may be the wrong term (although as she is head of the C of E it may be accurate). So let's have venerate.
Some of the actions involved in both are similar. Bowing or in some way giving an indication of honouring the person. In some way accepting they are superior or better than anyone else. Most of the RF are regarded as this, why I do not know.

Loved the book by my teacher colleague 'The Queen and I' by Sue Townsend- the Royal family having been sent to live in a Council Estate in Leicester. Brilliant. Some coped much better than others, Anne and the Queen Mum were great at adapting.

Anniebach Fri 25-Sept-20 11:53:20

I don’t think the Queen wants to be worshipped, she was ten
when she became heir to the throne, such a different world,
she has moved with the times

Jaberwok Fri 25-Sept-20 11:44:47

I don't think the royals want to be worshipped! Not the younger ones anyway! I too would hate a republic, but I don't worship anyone except the Almighty, and certainly not the RF!

blondenana Fri 25-Sept-20 11:31:34

Harry has never voted because the royal family dont and never have

Anniebach Fri 25-Sept-20 11:08:47

Do people change so much, I saw Harry growing up, his love
of the countryside, I saw him in training with the army.

Do most people give up everything for their child ? Yes we adjust but a complete change of lifestyle ?

Worship ? How odd, but I suppose some worship politicians or
celebs. I definitely do not want a republic, but I don’t worship
the royals,

Ellianne Fri 25-Sept-20 11:03:16

That's interesting. Are we British better at commiserating when the chips are down or at praising to the skies when everything is rosy? In Harry's case I feel we have exhausted both avenues.

Boz Fri 25-Sept-20 10:59:24

No, they can't win because they are both insufferable and most people recognise that. I am not going to be lectured, influenced or charmed by that pair of posers. Not a big fan of DM but I think it has nailed this pair.

trisher Fri 25-Sept-20 10:41:47

Ellianne but isn't he simply doing what most people do? Laughing and cheerful with his baby, serious when he is talking about serious subjects?
The general view seems to be that he is desperately unhappy, but maybe he just has a serious side he is now showing.
I rarely feel sorry for any of the RF and I find this Good Royal/Bad Royal saga completely mystifying, but H&M do seem to be complete targets at the moment. I do wonder if it is to do with human nature and if you have people you worship you have to have an element amongst them you hate. It seems very similar to the Good King/Bad King concept of history.

Jaberwok Fri 25-Sept-20 10:38:16

Meghan .manages to look totally at ease and eager to lecture us all, in fact looks extremely pleased with life as I'm sure she is! Harry? looks sad, anxious, crouched on the seat, and generally miserable! You can be serious and enthusiastic, and smile!!! Harry looks as if he's terrified of performing badly and the consequences that will follow. In other words he's frightened of MM! Domestic abuse?!!

Sarnia Fri 25-Sept-20 10:32:52

Besotted as Harry is, he knows what the protocol is on mentioning politics. He can be supportive of Meghan's opinions but should stop short of saying anything that causes problems for our Royal Family.

Ellianne Fri 25-Sept-20 10:27:27

Or is he playing that victim card all over again? I think someone here suggested that earlier.

Ellianne Fri 25-Sept-20 10:26:37

Just imagining the comments should Harry have been smiling and lauging on any of the videos. "Look at him crowing after what he's done", "It's all right grinning but it's time he took things seriously" "There's nothing to laugh about".
Can't win can they???

Trisher, compare him now with his delight and bounce when Archie was born. So happy and speaking from the heart.
OK, so if American politics isn't exactly his bag, why doesn't he choose his own subjects to lecture people on? I would be quite happy to see a little smile and laugh from him.

I don't think H is particularly unhappy. He has three expressions: grinning, vacuous and cross; the most frequent one at the moment is cross, because we don't all share his love and admiration for Meghan.

If they want to campaign on American issues that is up to them, but for a couple who created such a tremendous fuss about being private citizens, they make an awful lot of public pronouncements.

Sparklefizz Fri 25-Sept-20 10:16:23

I agree Anniebach, Jaberwok and Ellianne. He does look like a hostage who has been told what to say to the camera. I think the crunch for him will come at Christmas.

Poor little Archie though .... who does he play with? Who does he see in his little life?

Ellianne Fri 25-Sept-20 10:12:45

The real sadness is that Prince Harry looks so unhappy and beaten down! bit like those awful hauted pictures of IS hostages. We don't mind a Prince relocating to another country/life if it makes him happy and contented, after all we've got plenty of other Princes, but to see him parroting words clearly put into his mouth that he barely seems to understand and see his downcast demeanour compared to the Harry we once knew and loved is nothing short of tragic.

I agree Jaberwok. Didn't Meghan say something like "it's no good just to survive, you have to thrive." She definitely is thriving, but Harry looks so unhappy like he is performing under duress. Sad to watch.

Anniebach Fri 25-Sept-20 10:12:19

Never been a fan of Harry, but I think he looks so lost now,
a man who loved the army life, the company of men, shooting, fishing, stalking, Africa, very close to his brother.

But now ?

Thanks Lexisgranny, I must do better research before posting, as I don’t want to give ‘fake news’ or ‘fake gossip’ to be more accurate!

I do remember Nancy Reagan at Ronald Reagan's funeral; very composed, but she stroked and patted the coffin in a sort of gentle farewell, and it struck me as being genuine, and I think it surprised the Press.

Good article from Jan Moir today.

I adore Matt Lucas

Went to see Little Britain on tour

Saw Bake Off for the first time because he's in it.

Hilarious. Loved his Boris skit

Lexisgranny Fri 25-Sept-20 08:34:25

You were right Calendargirl Nancy Reagan was an actress under the name Nancy Davis, she did actually star in one film with Ronald Reagan in the late 50s, I think it was called Hellcats of the Navy.

What do ordinary Americans think of H and M? I think we should be told.

PS I think she does look like Wallis except I don't think Wallis directed that 'adoring' gaze at Edward in quite the way M does to H. It's the same gaze Nancy Reagan directed at Ronald when he was sworn in as president.

I think Nancy was another ‘power behind the throne’ also.

She was an actress also.
What a coincidence they both had the same adoring gaze.

?

Hang on, think I’m wrong there!

His first wife was Jane Wyman, (well, one wife anyway) and she was an actress.

Sorry Nancy, but maybe Jane gave you some tips!
