Looking at the figures, it seems very likely that Trump has won a second term. How that will affect the world remains to be seen.?

Sorry meant to say that they are including Arizona and Wisconsin in that.

BBC are saying a Biden win.

Hithere: In your list you forgot to mention that Trump is very economical with the truth!

At this point I would say that the numbers are with Biden right now. Twitter is alive with the sounds of the trumpenproletariat scraping barrels.

If there was fraud it was always coming from the Trump camp. I've mentioned before about my young friend in Michigan who told me that voters in likely Democrat areas of Michigan were being bombarded with robotic phonecalls discouraging them from voting.

I'm still not comfortable about the eventual outcome though.

Whoo.... you go Biden.

Seems obvious to me, America is mainly bible belt, and Trump is religious. Obvs......

The a Monster Raving Looney Party actually had good policies though.

Sarnia, I can only thing it's a Big Country with a Big population. Let's face it, people here vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party

Then in four more years Trump junior will take over. We may be watching a dictatorship in the making. A disaster for the free world ?.

OMG - that awful prospect had not even crossed my mind, but now you've mentioned it, it seems such a realistic scenario!

As if I wasn't feeling bad enough before. sad

I wouldn't worry about that. Kanye West who polled 57,000 votes in this election has said he will run for President in 2024. Just when you thought there couldn't be any worse candidates than Trump & Biden, along comes West. Scary that 57,000 people voted for him.

Because someone is a US citizen, it doesn’t automatically follow that their understanding of this election and US politics in general is good or worthy of note. You only have to see the comments in the UK made by UK citizens about UK politics to appreciate that. I have 3 groups of friends in the US and each has a completely different take and understanding on US politics and this election. Which is hardly surprising.

I was in America in the three weeks leading to the last Presidential election. I watched Fox and CNN (no radio 4 in the morning there, no ch4 news at 7). The Americans we spoke to were all friendly, and only one group were Trump supporters. We met that family at Arlington cemetery where we were all paying homage to the flame that burns for JFK. The family were a father (veteran of Vietnam) his son (veteran Afghanistan) and sons wife (from a military family. The young people loathed Trump and were embarrassed by him. They had never voted Democrat and felt torn as they didn't trust Hilary either. Dad was full on Trump, despite which we got on very well.
I just heard Scaramouchi interviewed on radio 4. Fascinating how anti Trump he now is, describing him as "a lunatic, everyone knows he's a lunatic". He, like another US commentator I heard, went on to discuss the alienation many Americans feel about the left/democrats who insist that if you're white, you are a white supremacist, the pushing of the trans/lesbian/gay/ agenda above any other point of view. I don't know enough about the US to know if that extreme view is correct. It resonated though with the red wall seats in the UK which rejected a LP they felt no longer represents them.
As a liberal, feminist lefty, these are uncomfortable things we have to discuss.

KatB , Being a US citizen you will know more than we in GB do about the goings on in this election. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I have been watching all this for months now. about the bias media and especially Mr Biden and his Son and the ongoing computer evidence etc.

I know Trump is very crass but he has got a lot of the things he promised done.

I have seen Biden promise to get rid of fracking to the faces of a group of anti fracking people, then say he would not get rid of fracking during the debates and exactly the same with Harris. It is very hard to know what they intend to do as they keep changing their minds.

I have seen Biden in a TV interview brag about getting the Ukrainian Prosecutor fired or he would not release money to them. This is the Prosecutor that was investigating the corrupt energy company his son was on the board for.

And the list goes on. So glad our elections aren't as complicated.

Whitewavemark2 Even if Biden gets in, he will soon back down and be taken over by Harris. So what is the point in Biden running for President in the first place.

Nothing about this election makes sense. That is my opinion.

Waiting now for the onslaught .....

Keep watching - this is far from settled!

Fennel

Whitewave - I think they thought of that at one point and said that the nominated vice president would take over.

Thanks for that. I thought that but you just never know.

There appears to be a problem with the postal voting which I cannot understand. Trump seems to assume he has won the election and is saying the conting should cease as these are not legitimate votes. I am confused. However, it seems to be of a choice between a totally loose cannon and someone with the onset of dementia. Perhaps there should be an upper age limit imposed on US presidents?

There’s no problem at all with the mail in voting - that’s Trump lying again. It’s just that in a very few states they count the mail in votes after the in person votes. Added to that is the fact that in general more Democrats have used mail in than in person.

tidyskatemum Wed 04-Nov-20 17:32:12

What are all the wonderful things the Trump fans think he has done? Helped destroy the planet by pulling out of the Paris Agreement and ripping up environmental regulations, encouraging white supremacists, increasing the gap between rich and poor and largely denying Covid -19 despite the deaths of almost 240,000 Americans so far. Bigly!

Bluecat Wed 04-Nov-20 17:23:34

It was inevitable that Trump would start claiming fraud if there was any chance that he would lose. He has been laying down the groundwork for that claim for several weeks now.

I am not a huge admirer of Biden but Trump has presided over the mismanagement of a pandemic, now running out of control and killing thousands of Americans, and deep social divisions. He has fanned the flames of violence by his encouragement of "good people" like the fascists in Charlottesville or the "patriots" who harassed Biden's campaign bus. What are black people supposed to think when the President says to a white supremacist group, "Proud Boys, stand back and stand by"?

The man is a disaster for America and all decent Americans. His climate change denying policies are a disaster for the whole world.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Nov-20 17:22:22

Anyone know if, given the candidates age that the president elect dies before the Swearing in. What happens?

Summerlove Wed 04-Nov-20 17:14:55

The problem with the postal voting, is that the votes are not for him.
