You can't take any food stuffs at all into Australia, they confiscate all of it and fine you if you do it again. When crossing borders, you need to educate yourself on what you can and cannot do, ignorance of the rules is no excuse.

I also had fruit confiscated once. I was allowed it on the flight to America but not into the country.
We saw the notices at the gateway so sat and ate quite a lot of it! My young daughter found it quite funny that we could take it in to the country but "only if it's in our tummies".

Travelling round Australia with children many years ago we had all our fruit confiscated as we crossed from one state to another.

Sounds reasonable to me, there are many countries that don't allow food to be taken through customs. Not sure what point you're trying to make, or is this just another Brexit bashing thread?

Always best to check before you travel, even if it's to a country you've been too before. Rules and regulations change even without Brexit.

When you traveled to some other countries (non EU), pre Brexit, food was not allowed to be taken in. I believe it is the same rule coming to UK from some countries. It is what happens when you choose not to be in the club.
