So LF is standing as a candidate for Mayor. Would you vote for him? He is apparently backed by a Tory donor. He plans to open up the city after the elections on 6th May and get rid of any covid restrictions.

Tory mayoral candidate makes attempt to politicised a crime

I'm not saying LF hasn't demonstrated some absolutely abhorrent attitudes, and would not give him a 'get out of jail free card'. However if your compassion for anyone depends on them being likeable or acceptable to you, then it's not going to be spread too far. I, along with others it would seem, observe his deteriorating behaviour and strongly suspect he has a mental health illness. I agree LF displays a very entitled attitude, not alone in that though is he?

Well we aren’t going to agree on this obviously. I don’t have compassion for him because I don’t see why I would based on a comment on here that he may have MH problems. If it emerges he has, then I’d say he should seek some help as I would to anyone ( but most people couldn’t afford that )

EllanVannin Thu 11-Mar-21 15:23:59

Why not ? He's no more crackers than anyone else from where I'm sitting.

NellG Thu 11-Mar-21 15:26:24

I think people are just checking he's OK SW. I don't suppose anyone has thought to ask him...

Sorry, hard to resist sometimes.

EllanVannin Thu 11-Mar-21 15:27:18

You've only to look at Trump when he became President. Now who, in a million years, would have ever thought that would have happened ?

varian Thu 11-Mar-21 15:32:03

Unfortunately some people seem to regards politics as a branch of entertainment, so will vote for a "celeb" - hence Trump.

EllanVannin Thu 11-Mar-21 15:35:45

LF gained 100,000 followers after appearing on QT last year.

The only politician to my mind was John Smith who I've missed, believe it or not, since his untimely death at 55 in 1994, sadly a month after my H who'd told me to vote for him in 1997 as leader of the Labour party sad

Well maybe or maybe they are looking for an ‘acceptable’ excuse for his ‘unacceptable’ behaviour.

Rosie51 Thu 11-Mar-21 15:54:43

Mental health illness is never an excuse, but may help explain certain behaviours.

Yes I am aware of that - I just think some people behave appallingly without having MH problems as an explanation and I’m still in that camp re LF

Mentally ill or not, I don’t think Laurence Fox is a suitable candidate, too extremist and full of hate.

NellG Thu 11-Mar-21 17:09:35

I don't think he is mentally ill, just a posh white boy with more privilege than brain. Unless being a *&^% is now in the DSM.

Wonder if I'll get reported for dissing LF?

Eloethan Thu 11-Mar-21 17:14:57

I can't bear Fox's arrogance and his vile opinions. I wouldn't dream of voting for him.

MerylStreep Thu 11-Mar-21 17:15:30

There were many here on GN who thought Donald Trump didn’t have a hope in hells chance of becoming president: look what happened there.

You’ve joined many of us doing the same? Just one point, he has a great deal of privilege but is of very little brain .

suziewoozie Thu 11-Mar-21 17:41:01

He was expelled from Harrow before sitting ( and no doubt failing) his A levels. Somehow ( ?) he got into RADA ( on merit of course) I only know him as DS Woodentop in Lewis

We should be asking why would anyone vote for Sadiq Khan? What has he done for London? Nothing in my opinion. I don't live in London but I'm a London girl.

trisher Thu 11-Mar-21 17:52:20

Oh No! America got Trump and London gets Lawrence Fox!

But this is thread about the delectable Laurence. You could start a thread about SK and we could discuss it there.

Good to see an almost unanimous disapproval/? for Laurence Fox and his attitudes , especially towards Covid.

Gwyneth would you be able to expand on what “the woke brigade” is ?

toscalily Thu 11-Mar-21 18:35:12

OP Asked if we would vote for him. My answer is no, he is arrogant, over opinionated and probably thinks he could act his way around and through what is required. If everyone who behaves badly, arrogantly or irresponsibly is now to be excused on the grounds of "possible" mental health problems no-one will accountable for anything.

Isn’t calling him ‘a posh white boy ‘ racist?

I think it probably is Annie.

I don’t think it is but you can report it I suppose if you wish - he’s posh and he’s white ( and not very bright which I suppose is intellectualist).
