- because as a well known gammon he claims that to use the term gammon in a derogatory way is racist.

The list of food words which will be or have been added to the list will just grow.
When I was in Holland, the use of food names as insults was already much longer than here.

Mamardoit Sun 11-Apr-21 05:22:08

I believe 'Les Rosbifs' is an insult too.

Mamardoit Sun 11-Apr-21 05:15:07

I prefer gammon hot with parsley sauce. It makes a change from the traditional roast beef.

Callistemon Sat 10-Apr-21 21:46:23

Any pineapple in juice, not syrup, although I agree fresh is best, Mollygo.
Grilled, of course.

Mollygo Sat 10-Apr-21 21:09:04

Callistemon, I’m fine with the Cumberland sauce, but unless it’s fresh pineapple . . .

Callistemon Sat 10-Apr-21 19:51:50

I’ll carry on thinking gammon is something to eat with eggs

Noooooo!
Pineapple Mollygo!
Or Cumberland sauce.

(DH likes it with egg, though.)

Eh? You eat gammon or make soup!

henetha Sat 10-Apr-21 10:37:35

Is mustard involved in this?

Mollygo Sat 10-Apr-21 10:25:56

I’ll carry on thinking gammon is something to eat with eggs or winning or losing in backgammon.
I never heard of it being used as an insult before. I wonder how it will be advertised on restaurant menus to avoid being contentious in the future.

I love Andrew Neil, he’s great.

It's terribly childish. Found on Twitter mainly. Say no more.

Also racism occurs in people of the same colour. Yasmin Alibhai-Brown went into a great deal of detail about it some time ago

Neil won't care though. Far too intelligent.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 09-Apr-21 20:12:03

Racism or at the very least racial prejudice.

suziewoozie

GN - where only lefties are nasty meanies ?

I never had you down as a snowflake suzie ...but in any case
What has Andrew Neil being annoyed ( or not) about the term ‘gammon’ got to do with GN posters and ‘lefties mean-ism’ ???
There is nothing on this thread, that’s for sure.

I suppose if called a ‘gammon’ by a person of a different race, then it is a racist term ( pink face, which most white people have to one degree or another.) I don’t suppose Neil is too bothered mind you, he likes a bit of push and shove verbally.?

Oldbat1 Fri 09-Apr-21 17:24:15

This isn’t a term I’ve ever come across.

Kandinsky Fri 09-Apr-21 16:58:35

It’s a derogatory term used by people who like shit stirring.

Blinko Fri 09-Apr-21 16:56:16

AN is almost always furious about something, surely. It's a thing with him. BP I expect.

MaizieD Fri 09-Apr-21 16:38:53

Neil hasn't really been on my radar a great deal, but I remember changing my Sunday paper from the Sunday Times to the Observer after he'd been editor for a while and it was drifting steadily to the right. That was nearly 40 years ago and before I was particularly politically engaged. I just knew that I didn't like what the paper was saying any more.

vegansrock Fri 09-Apr-21 15:27:53

People who are gammon are usually racist - it’s part of the definition

JackyB Fri 09-Apr-21 14:37:54

Is it time to start cursing the gammon? wink

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 14:34:44

He’s getting a lot of attention, which I guess is the point.

When is his G(ammon)B News starting?

Or Fox News by any other name.

suziewoozie Fri 09-Apr-21 14:33:39

GN - where only lefties are nasty meanies ?

suziewoozie Fri 09-Apr-21 14:32:23

Good grief - when you think about the words the right use about the left. He’s getting off lightly imo given what a **** he is. I presume people have picked up the word his mate Fox tweeted to describe 3 named people who now, joy of joys, are taking legal action against him.?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Apr-21 14:31:51

eazybee

It is simply name-calling by ignorant people.

Shall we dig up Neil’s name calling?

He can out-ignorant most people by the score.
