Wills and Harry rift blown out of proportion

I've thought all along that the so-called "feud" between the brothers has been exaggerated by the media. Brothers fall out as anyone with sons will tell you. Usually they make it up and everything is forgotten, but with Harry leaving the country and the press delighting in nasty gossip, a small disagreement has grown into all out war.
At least one reporter thinks as I do.

Gosh, are the republicans, at last, acknowledging that what the RF do is ‘work’? Well, well...

I was surprised at the Queen’s return to work so soon after being widowed. She is lauded for her dedication to duty but that dedication separated her from her young children when she was Princess Elizabeth and now seems to be preventing her from a timely retirement. Is it dedication or is she trapped by her perception of what duty means? Either way it is a very narrow way of living.

I imagine the Queen feels that keeping busy is her way of dealing with her grief.

Far better than sitting about moping will be her philosophy, and that of her late husband also I should think.

No.

I'm acknowledging that expecting a 95 year old woman to read and sign documents, or turn up and wave, is completely unacceptable to me. Even if, and maybe especially if, she thinks its her duty

If I was being asked to do that at my age, I wouldn't call it work.

Parsley3 it is dedication and duty to the country and, as it's not a career as we would envisage it, with a retirement to look forward to then I think she will continue but relinquish most of her duties to Charles and William. She has been doing this gradually anyway.
I think the wirld abdication would be abhorrent to her after what happened with her Uncle David.

Either way it is a very narrow way of living.
It's probably has a wider spectrum of interests than any career in the world.
I'm sure she will take plenty of time for R&R too - goodness knows, she deserves it.

word!

Think the media has blown everything out of proportion ??alongside all the experts and government!!! Never believe anything you read!

Elegran Tue 20-Apr-21 12:14:50

At the time of her coronation, the Queen made a vow, that she would do the job to the end of her life. At the time, she may have been thinking of her uncle's abdication, and not have predicted that her life would still be going on in 20121, but she is not one to reneg on a promise.

Callistemon Tue 20-Apr-21 12:20:37

dedication and duty to the country
And to the Commonwealth.

Probably some do not understand that that it entails rather more than signing documents and giving an occasional wave.

Alegrias1 Tue 20-Apr-21 12:40:01

The word "abdication" clearly has a meaning for her that transcends all other concerns.

I like to remember that the Japanese emperor abdicated at the age of 85 and the country didn't fall apart. People believed the Japanese emperors were divine until WW2 and I think some of that reverence remains. So if Japan can survive, I'm sure we can. Even a Pope has retired. Nobody is indispensable and the belief that you have to stay in post to your last breath because it is your duty shouldn't be celebrated.

When she was 21 when said she would serve her whole life. Maybe the best way to serve this country is to hand over to her successor?

Anniebach Tue 20-Apr-21 12:57:39

And what is she doing wrong that she should abdicate ?

Seems some have a problem with her age

Daisend1 Tue 20-Apr-21 13:00:41

ExD.
Hope you are correct when it comes to exaggeration.
Having lost her beloved husband then to observe two of her grandchildren 'in conflict ' one living on the opposite side of the world is the last thing she should have to tolerate.

ExD Tue 20-Apr-21 13:02:31

PLEASE will someone start a thread about the Queens dedication to duty, this thread is not about her!

Alegrias1 Tue 20-Apr-21 13:07:16

That's interesting - you have to be doing something wrong to abdicate? I think that's a hangover from the legacy of Edward VIII's abdication. Akihito hadn't done anything wrong. He just wanted to hand over to his successor.

If she wants to keep going, good luck to her. But maybe somebody can tell me why we have a post at the top of the tree that you can stay in even though you've got somebody else doing most of the "work"?

Alegrias1 Tue 20-Apr-21 13:07:44

Sorry ExD, apologies.

eazybee Tue 20-Apr-21 13:13:26

She is in post because she is doing such a good job.

Lucca Tue 20-Apr-21 13:26:37

Sorry ExD. For digressing again a thought just struck me. I mean no disrespect by the way but what would have happened if the queen had had Alzheimer’s? Would there have been some “power” that would have brought abdication into play ?

Alegrias1 Tue 20-Apr-21 13:27:29

I've started a "dedication to duty" thread smile

maddyone Tue 20-Apr-21 13:27:39

If we’re going to discuss abdication, then yes, I think the Queen should abdicate now, and hand over to her son, Prince Charles, who is now 72 years old I think. The Queen should abdicate and then retire quietly like Philip did. However, I don’t think she will.

Alegrias1 Tue 20-Apr-21 13:28:48

....but everyone is ignoring it..... grin

Lucca Tue 20-Apr-21 13:29:54

Oh... not seen it Alegrias... i shall investigate

Experts ? Government ? Are they getting involved in the William and Harry thing ?

ExD Tue 20-Apr-21 13:35:58

Bless you Alegrias

Callistemon Tue 20-Apr-21 13:55:16

Apologies *ExD - I should have read the whole thread.

The media likes a good story to exaggerate.
