What I think will happen tomorrow

That the SNP will do well
That Labour in Wales will do well
That Laurence Fox and Shaun Bailey will be humiliated in London
That my local council will stay LD
That Labour will hang onto its Mayors and do badly elsewhere

This is not a difficult prediction

Great post. I feel like an outsider in this current election round as we only got to vote for the much unloved post of PCC. Basically I’m a luke warm Tory but voting for anyone but Boris at the moment. I’m seriously worried about the demise of moderate Labour and Lib Dems.

Nannan2 Fri 07-May-21 13:09:20

General election is whats need but they darent have one.

Nannan2 Fri 07-May-21 13:08:35

Hear hear Moggie- its the folk on ESA & 'legacy benefits' who got screwed over financially but i dont think Any party will rush to put it right.(the 'promised' £500 never materialised either, as only 'working tax' claimants got that- not just child tax claimants- i haven't heard any party say they will rectify that! (& if they did, if they got in they would not do it anyway!) - Yes i did vote, but dont know why i bothered.we will still be stuck with idiot Boris, even though everyone's complained about him all year! ?

MaizieD Fri 07-May-21 13:00:41

Good grief MazieD! Whatever echo chamber you are in must be an alarming experience.

Blimey! I don't live in an echo chamber, I live in an area of high deprivation. Of course, you clearly know better than I do what it is like to live here.

Nannan2 Fri 07-May-21 12:59:34

No i too had never heard of Shaun Bailey..But whoever gets in they all always make a load of promises then do something different once they get in! Anyone can apply for a postal vote, so should not effect a 'low turnout' i would imagine there is more postal votes than actual physical votes this year.

Well said Urmstongran

Theoddbird Fri 07-May-21 12:50:42

Growsstuff....it obviously says that people are voting conservative...thought that was obvious. But maybe you could not see that...hahaha

Ninn Fri 07-May-21 12:50:09

Good grief MazieD! Whatever echo chamber you are in must be an alarming experience. Where I live (NW) we are progressive, pro the idealism of socialism, with a small s, and despite the pandemic, there is a huge expansion in jobs, a steady growth of independent businesses, well cared for green spaces, improved living conditions for renters, and support for working people of all stripes. Many really interesting initiatives to benefit our community have not only been proposed but initiated. It's great to live in a city that's on the rise. And all thanks to Labour.

But RD isn’t standing again is she and isn’t even the leader now? She’s off to the bastion of democracy known as the House of Lords where she’ll probably be given a ministerial post or other.

Alegrias1 Fri 07-May-21 12:47:48

I'm sitting here waiting for the first declarations in Scotland, I don't know how I'll last till Saturday... smile

Sturgeon may or may not get a majority, either way with the Greens there will be a majority of independence supporting MSPs.

Ruth Davidson isn't standing, she resigned quite some time ago and she's off to be a Baroness. The leader of the Tories in Scotland is such a numpty that the Tories always made sure Davidson was on the election literature and Party Political Broadcasts. So if people voted because of Ruth, they're going to be disappointed.

moggie57 Fri 07-May-21 12:45:54

liam fox is an arrogant ***
will it matter who wins , not for us disabled people on benefits .

coastalgran Fri 07-May-21 12:39:14

Here in Scotland we will have to wait till Saturday to find out what Nicola Sturgeon has achieved, SNP should have a majority in the Scottish Parliament but the Conservatives and Ruth Davidson may undercut the majority a bit. A lot of Scots like Ruth Davidson in towns that were staunch labour. It will be interesting to see what Boris makes of the Scottish elections once we know the result.

Lin52 it would really help if you referenced the post/poster you are responding to. You could use the Quote facility. As it is, I often can’t make head nor tail of your posts

As someone newly relocated in Scotland, I'm rather hoping that the SNP won't "walk it" but wouldn't be at all surprised. Due to Covid restrictions and the fact that we only got a TV service yesterday (after having moved to the Highlands of Scotland on Feb 2nd), we haven't seen any TV debates or Party Political Broadcasts, so I read the manifestos of each party and made my choice from that! I would rather not specify the Candidate and Party I chose, but it was not the SNP.

Mealybug Fri 07-May-21 12:37:25

Where I live there has been lots of problems with certain Labour Councillors and things they should and haven't done for the community (including covering up criminal activity). However last night my town took matters into their own hands and voted them both out (we are split into East & West wards) and voted two new Independents in. One of them was the Council Leader and they also lost three or four other seats in the borough. It doesn't pay to get too blase and ignore the wants of the electorate!

Alegrias1 Fri 07-May-21 12:35:24

Interesting....

We can post facts about the educational levels in constituencies that voted for Brexit, and there are indignant GNers all over the place.

But its OK to suggest that people who support Labour are less "properly adjusted"?

polly123 Fri 07-May-21 12:32:25

'Labour have become the vehicle for every woke crackpot movement in the country and as a result they no longer resonate with the more properly adjusted working classes who are less concerned about taking a knee than jobs, good schools and safe streets'.

Absolutely agree with this comment!

suziewoozie Fri 07-May-21 12:25:05

Lettice

Especially the glee in the tone.

Well everyone knows that a weak opposition is SO good for democracy , don’t they ? ?

Alegrias1 Fri 07-May-21 12:24:58

Lin52

GG13 and I had a whole conversation about this later in the thread, where she agreed that she'd got the wrong end of the stick, and I had said nothing at all like this. I didn't mention Conservatives, and I was criticising the small number of people who are in fact, on the far right.

Lettice Fri 07-May-21 12:17:41

Urmstongran Just disappointed in a fellow Manc.

growstuff Fri 07-May-21 12:17:04

Theoddbird

Conservatives have won a labour seat of many many years. They have also upted their council seats. Says a lot does that.

What exactly do you think it says?

What kind of MP (of any political party) would improve the lives of the majority in Hartlepool?

Theoddbird Fri 07-May-21 12:14:10

Lin52 Have you ever looked up who cut the police numbers in London?
