Meanwhile, in Scotland....

We had a by-election. SNP won, Labour second, Tory third.

The new MSPs were sworn in and they used 13 different languages in their oaths.

People in Glasgow stood in the street surrounding a Home Office van trying to deport so called "illegals". And they did stop them. One man lay down under the van.

And we've been surge testing and giving vaccines to all adults in Moray, where the hotspot looks like stabilising.

Another day in paradise....?

Let's get back to the point - which was the treatment of ANYONE - yes, even someone who may turn out to be an illegal immigrant, but equally may be here perfectly legally. Innocent until proved guilty, remember?

Wouldn't it have been better then Lucca for Whitewavemark and PippaZ to have queried the relevance of EV's post to this thread, rather than post such a nasty interpretation of what she posted?

I did!!

I told ev that I was having difficulty following her argument and could she explain it to me.

I still do have difficulty given the context of the thread.

I will be the first to apologise if I’m wrong.

EllanVannin

You ALL saw what you wanted to see !! God help you.

So this was, in fact, a reference to removing rubbish from gardens, etc? Something no one had mentioned previously; they had mentioned the removal of people.

Your post was If you want to live surrounded by detritus etc, then that's your choice. Why say that? You were giving a comparative scenario. What were you comparing clearing the rubbish from your garden too? Sadly, it still reads exactly as it read in the first instance.

There is little point in continuing the conversation. Perhaps, in such contentious times, a little more care is needed.

EllanVannin Fri 14-May-21 11:58:22

When one speaks of detritus, it means rubbish lying around, mattresses in front gardens, heaps of general muck and waste in streets/ gardens.

I'm thoroughly disgusted that anyone thought I was talking about people----it NEVER entered my head to name people as detritus for God's sake. You obviously did !!

I can't believe that folk can be like this---it's genuinely put me right off this forum.

EllanVannin Fri 14-May-21 11:52:36

A five year old could decipher what I wrote and the meaning of what I wrote.

EllanVannin Fri 14-May-21 11:51:07

NO lucca, they read the post how they wanted to---out of context on their part which fanned their flames to continue posting their crap and untruths.

Smileless2012 Fri 14-May-21 11:48:51

Yes they did Lucca but not until they'd posted their very nasty interpretation.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-May-21 11:48:30

My posts of 11.04, 11.09 and 11.11 seem to be pretty spot on!

Yes. But I think they did didn’t they ?

I am sitting here wondering why any country would allow its MPs to take an oath in any other language than the official language or languages of the country?

I have absolutely no objection to people of different ethnic backgrounds standing for parliament and getting in, but if a parliament is to get any work done it needs a common language.

This being so, that language should have been used for all oaths taken.

They did take it in English. Plus their own language.

Absolutely disgusting and unforgiveable.

I think it would help the situation Ellan if you explained your original comment about rubbish and neighbours, as I didn’t understand what it had to do with the discussion either. I AM NOT being rude or contentious, just genuinely confused. I actually wondered if you had posted on the wrong thread.

Are you hiding then Polar ?

Best tactic I’m thinking. ?

Smileless2012 Fri 14-May-21 11:42:13

In the event that you do report EllanVannin's post Whitewavemark I have just contacted GNHQ asking them not to look at that post out of context, and to see any reporting of said post to be seen for what it is.

Alegrias1 Fri 14-May-21 11:41:31

Thanks for the list Pinny I see that most of the languages listed are either Gaelic or dialects of the Scottish language, which explains why there are so many.

Gaelic, Orcadian, Doric, Scots.

So 4 languages are "either Gaelic or a dialect of Scots"

8 of the languages are not English, Gaelic or a dialect of Scots.

(I knew I'd end up in this conversation grin)

Would you throw all your old bulk items in the front garden and allow it to get overgrown with weeds ? NO, you'd do something about it----probably. It's called pride if you do something about it, and respecting the area in which you live.

For those posters who are determined to misunderstand EV and the detritus comment....here you are.

You are making it worse.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-May-21 11:38:59

I am latibulating upstairs with a sleeping baby whilst DH entertains a poorly 6yr old!

Polarbear2 Fri 14-May-21 11:36:17

Susie Dent on Twitter this morning. Word of the day “Latibulating”. Means hide in a corner until conditions improve ??

Read EV's post this morning @ 11.01 if you can't see that she was referring to people's house hold waste and not the people themselves Whitewavemark.

For the record, I am not saying whether or not that post was relevant to this thread. I am saying that what was quoted by PippaZ was deliberately taken out of context in a failed attempt to put EV in a bad light.

This is a perfectly reasonable explanation; will you accept it?

EllanVannin Fri 14-May-21 11:34:56

I'll be well on my guard against your insidious posts from now on. Your mindsets are obnoxious and trouble-causing.

ww no poster has to explain anything to you ( Check GN rules.)

In which case I shall report it.
