We had a by-election. SNP won, Labour second, Tory third.

The new MSPs were sworn in and they used 13 different languages in their oaths.

People in Glasgow stood in the street surrounding a Home Office van trying to deport so called "illegals". And they did stop them. One man lay down under the van.

And we've been surge testing and giving vaccines to all adults in Moray, where the hotspot looks like stabilising.

Another day in paradise....?

Why do you take things out of context ? Because you're programmed to do so ! Horrible. Provocative.

No, appalled and worried.

If I misunderstood I will offer you an unequivocal apology, without any doubt.

Tell me why I misunderstood

lemongrove Fri 14-May-21 11:32:57

ww no poster has to explain anything to you ( Check GN rules.)

Thanks for the list Pinny I see that most of the languages listed are either Gaelic or dialects of the Scottish language, which explains why there are so many.

It makes perfect sense Whitewavemark and a damn sight more sense that PippaZ suggesting that EV was referring to people as detritus when she obviously wasn't, and you doing the same.

Shame on you both.

Then explain! And I will be more than happy to accept a reasonable explanation.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 11:29:05

EllanVannin

You ALL saw what you wanted to see !! God help you.

Then explain your posts please as they don’t make sense in the context of the discussion.

The discussion was about the actions of the Home Office and the reaction of a neighbourhood.

You then talked about detritus. What did you mean?

EllanVannin Fri 14-May-21 11:28:43

Sheesh !

It NEVER crossed MY mind, but it must have immediately crossed yours ! Who's the bad person ??

Elegran

Granny23 I agree that "This was the UK Home Office throwing their weight around and obviously doing this provocatively by choosing the early morning of Eid to make their move."

There was absolutely no need to make this a dawn raid on that specific day. How would any of us feel if a heavyhanded posse descended on our home to arrest us at daybreak on Christmas Day, with celebration planned for family and friends? What on earth reaction did they expect in a multi-cultural neighbourhood on a feast day?

At last some humanity and sense.

I am surprised that they have to use English and not Gaelic as well.

There have been Gaelic debates in the Parliament, I can't remember the last one but there is at least one person who has Gaelic as their first language. But, English is the language spoken by all, so that's why its used.

EV's post @ 11.01, following the one you have quoted PippaZ quite clearly shows that when she referred to "detritus" she was not referring to people, she was referring to their rubbish so yes, you "have obviously got this wrong" but that didn't stop you from implying otherwise did it.

What rubbish? That doesn’t make sense in the context of this discussion.

Do you mind not twisting my words PippaZ ?

Did you describe people as detritus? If not then, as I said, I had obviously read your post wrongly. I would much rather it was as simple as that I can assure you.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 11:24:38

EV

OMG surely, surely you are not talking about human beings as
detritus?

If you are, then your post needs taking down.

That is utterly utterly beyond the pale.

No wonder I couldn’t follow your argument as it never occurred to me that anyone would use such language.

Please! No more mentions of Hitler/ Nazis ....sometimes it’s like a drinking game on GN, one shot of voddy every time they are brought into the conversation. We would all be dead drunk before lunchtime.??????

I thought you HAD to be 18 to vote BY LAW- how come they let 16& 17 yr olds vote there? Its bl**dy ridiculous!

We have different laws in Scotland. smile

I know, bl**dy ridiculous, isn't it?

Don't know why we don't just do what we're told.....

I totally agree with you. The scenes were disgusting but people were called on to join (by an elected person) the rabble.
However, Rangers fans (football) were told they were not to celebrate their league win.
Rangers fans have decided they will call it a demonstration and see if it is then allowed (sarcastic comment).

lemongrove Fri 14-May-21 11:19:43

I agree GG13 it seems to be the way that things are going, sadly.
No need for any insults being hurled because posters don’t agree on this subject.
On the subject of name shortening, if a poster has a long name expect it to be shortened or abbreviated, I am regularly addressed as Lemon and have no objections whatsoever.
Sometimes LG equally acceptable.

Elegran I was curious as to what the 13 languages were ....not objecting to it, it seems such a lot, and it wasn’t explained(until you did so) although I am surprised that they have to use English and not Gaelic as well.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-May-21 11:18:57

What insults? I am not aware of anything other than strong debate.

And believe me the debate will get more and more aggressive the more this government pursues its authoritarian agenda.

The U.K. populace with the odd exception has never accepted authoritarian government. We may by default appear to be slipping into the mire at present, but it won’t be tolerated.

At present unless and until the government prevents the judiciary, they can still rule on governments illegal policies.

“Judge criticises
@pritipatel
over policy for asylum seekers in pandemic."

"Court hears Home Secretary may have acted unlawfully in changing accommodation policy."
