Baby Wilfred at G7 - what do you think?

Boris and Carrie are adamant no one shows photos of the baby's face yet they have twice paraded him in front of the world's media, meaning his face has to be pixilated before the film can be shown. We know how much Boris loves a photo opportunity - he's rarely seen without a Hi Viz jacket or a white coat and please don't mention his early morning swim but I think it's wrong to use the baby as a photo prop. Plus if they are going to show him they could have put some shorts on him instead of taking him to the beach in a nappy and t-shirt (the baby not Boris).

Jacinda Ardern took her baby to the UN General Assembly in New York I seem to remember. I'm sure we would have seen more of her baby at the time if she had been a world leader.

Was there a pandemic on? Was her baby mixing with people from countries where we aren't allowed to travel to because of the dangers?

Not quite the same is it.

Why is a few days in Cornwall in June not a suitable place for a toddler? They're hardly camping on bicycles in the middle of nowhere!Best hotel, Nanny and perhaps Carries Mum in attendance, what on earth is unsuitable about that? For Carrie not to go when other partners were in attendance would certainly have got spiteful tongues wagging, in any case I expect she wanted to go and why on earth shouldn't she?

It was supposed to be a serious meeting not a subsidised family holiday. I think any partners travelling at the moment isn't appropriate.

So in that case, was the Bidens' attendance at church on Sunday in St. Ives just as much a photo opp? With their motorcade and photographers in attendance?
You could say he was using his religion to promote himself. They all do it, like playing a game.

As a Catholic I find that offensive. There is no need for a child to attend a political meeting, a Catholic attending Mass is very different unless you are insinuating he only goes to mass when photos will be taken?

Which politicians take their children to political events?

Attention seekers?

Well I'm from Cornwall and I think the whole weekend was glorious, from the venues including on the beach, to the wonderful Cornish tables used for the serious stuff, to the BBQ, to the Eden Project visit by five members of the Royal Family.

The views & weather were spectacular, and having spouses including two men by the way, was very appropriate. Jill Biden attended many things in Cornwall, including the wonderful Minack Theatre, a primary school, and other arts projects. Carrie also did her bit, and made everyone feel very relaxed and welcome.

As for Wilfred, he was seen on the beach which is lovely for him as he lives in London, and a brief appearance at the BBQ which was informal.

Stop carping and see the positives, it all went well, even the demonstrations, and most people in the area are praising the Police for their calm & relaxed approach to the residents and visitors.

Why shouldn't a female leader bring her husband, and a male leader bring his wife? Why shouldn't a young mum bring her first child to show off? Its life, its what we do!! Except when the PC brigade come out!!

Shame about the police officers who caught covid. I wonder if there will be any more?

They may have to set up a creche for the next one!

I had emergency eye surgery two weeks ago and have been confined to bed ever since. I've had messages and flowers from friends, and daily messages of support from my lovely sister in law. My husband has proved to be a very efficient and thoughtful carer. However, my only son and his partner who live 5 minutes away have only sent one WhatsApp message and a couple of photos of my gorgeous 2 year old granddaughter. No flowers, no offers of help. The WhatsApps all came from my son. No word from his partner. What am I to make of this, does she hate me? We have no other family living close by and feel especially isolated.

MaisieD - I can sympathise with your frustration, as the OP on this subject I can categorically say that I have never been nasty about the baby (and neither has anyone else) I also have no problem with Carrie taking the baby with her but what I don't like is the Johnsons using the baby for a photo opportunity when they insist on privacy for him with no photos of his face. I also have no problem with a baby wearing a nappy on the beach I just think if you know the photos are being shown round the world you might put a pair of shorts over the nappy on this occasion. I don't believe for one minute a photographer just "happened" to be there, the world's media was there and Boris knew that. As I've said, in my opinion he'll do anything for a photo opp but others obviously think otherwise.

I thought I was young surfing at 7.
They were wooden body boards in the olden days, no proper swim gear, just a swimsuit!

Yes, the plastic body boards sold on beaches are a disgrace, not environmentally friendly at all.

I can understand a young mum not wanting to leave her baby behind, so I think she was right to take him with her. She could have showed him off to the G7 leaders and partners, I’m sure it would be a welcome distraction to have a little one there, but without any photos being taken, that was not necessary or appropriate.

Or she could have stayed at home? It is an option.

Ellianne Mon 14-Jun-21 15:34:20

Oops, the message got lost Callistemon, sorry. Age 5 years, they start young down here.
No comments please about GS's hair or bottom garments!

^The youngest he has been found in court to have fathered is eleven.^
He or she would definitely be surfing instead, then.

Here

Callistemon Mon 14-Jun-21 15:13:11

Yes, there were some male spouses there too.
Were there any same-sex ones too?

Funny word, spouse.

Alegrias1 Mon 14-Jun-21 15:11:22

Spouses.

Women can be world leaders too. Come to think of it so can LGBTQ+ people, of course.

homefarm Mon 14-Jun-21 15:07:07

Not a suitable place for a baby I would have thought and Yes, why do the wives go.

Or St Agnes which is my childhood memory. Quite a bit further on, but the surfing was supposed to be pretty good according to my parents who were both excellent swimmers and surfers. Happy days indeed. muffinthemoo this is ancient news, so forgive me, yawn, yawn!

I would have been impressed if all of Johnson’s biological children had been present

Can't see that happening. At their age they'd more likely be surfing at Gwithian Beach up the road!

The youngest he has been found in court to have fathered is eleven. Mind you there are at least three strong potentials after that. I think a G7 Jeremy Kyle DNA testing special would have been superb entertainment for the world leaders.

MarjieM Mon 14-Jun-21 14:33:19

An attention seeking move IMO. Or a diversion for the media.

Either is not good.

Can't see a problem with it, other than maybe covid risk as you can't really test a child that age. Actually this event was a lot more important to the UK than the media really made of it. We're very much on our own right now and we need friends. Our ambassadors needed to come over as likeable. Pity they also came over as contract-breaking.
