One law for football fans?

It seems thousands of ticketless football fans are allowed to congregate in London, leaving mountains of rubbish, getting drunk and intimidating others on public transport etc, whilst a few women at a peaceful vigil for a murdered woman are arrested, handcuffed, dragged away by police. Is it one law for football fans and another for women?

Certainly nit picking! Maw.

Seems strange for football fans to carry Sainsbury’s bags and have blue gloves with them. Bit PR’ish to me.

Should they be Aldi or Lidl bags-or Co-op bags from their last “cerry-oot “ then?
Some people just have to nitpick don’t they?

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Jun-21 14:55:34

MayBee70 it only takes one person to have a pack of plastic gloves, the bags are probably what they’d carried their beer in ?

Alegrias1 Sun 20-Jun-21 14:53:39

Of course. Puts on best Morningside accent:

"Football fans couldn't possibly be shopping at Sainsbury's. And they wouldn't have gloves, would they? I mean, its not like we're in the middle of a pandemic or something"

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Jun-21 14:53:31

Blimey Kali2 you’re cheerful!
I’d rather be optimistic:

and good for them- but with those Sainsbury's bags, they are not going to get very far, are they! And how many are there clearing up, out of how many, %entage?

But this is not the point of the OP, not the point at all.

That’s right, criticise somebody making an effort,
But oh dear “With those Sainsbury’s bags etc” Bloody picky or what?
I don’t see any England fans or Pearl clutching grannies offering to help. Sometimes the younger generation can’t get it right in some people’s eyes. ?

Ah Maw, you just can't help it, can you. Attack after attack and some more.

Of course they were not all louts, and wonderful of this handful out of 1000s to come back and pick up litter- they must have been so ashamed at the behaviour of many. But when you are knee deep in a huge area covered with litter- picking a few bits with shopping bags was not going to make much difference. Yes, it showed willing and bravo to those few.

But there were louts there, for sure. And denying this is just nonsense. But it is NOT the point- not the point at all.

We are in a dangerous phase of thise pandemic- almost over if we continue to be very careful, VERY- as this Delta Varian takes hold in so many regions. THAT is the point. Louts or not louts, they just should not have travelled down in the circumstances.

The younger generation in my family, who have had to make massive sacrifices since last March- who have to be tested constantly at school and wear masks- and can't wait to be on holiday and go back to some kind of sort of normal- have told me they were disgusted and so angry about such behaviour.

When we are all back in lockdown - many more will be.

Ellianne Sun 20-Jun-21 13:49:32

Ahem anyone here a Formula One fan like me? I've just watched the opening ceremony at a circuit packed with spectators in Marseille and no doubt more fans locally. Seems it is happening all over.

SueDonim Sat 19-Jun-21 23:20:46

We have some new neighbours in our street and tonight there seems to be some sort of housewarming party going on. (We weren’t invited! grin)

This time last year I’d have been concerned. Now, I’m thinking most will probably have been vaxed and if those same people could have met at a Zumba class or a football fan zone, what’s the difference.

misty34 Sat 19-Jun-21 23:11:39

Lots of the Scottish football fans were in London today picking up all the litter and mess left around . They are not all bad.

Callistemon Sat 19-Jun-21 23:00:25

The few behave badly but the majority get blamed too.

Well done to those who were clearing up after the irresponsible ones left the mess.

rafichagran Sat 19-Jun-21 22:55:25

Well said MawAt least they showed willing, and I resent them being called louts, as was said upthread.

Callistemon Sat 19-Jun-21 22:40:29

Its time to stop making these ridiculous rules.

I'm beginning to think the same, SueDonim.

Some of the rules are arbitrary, unnecessary and in fact ridiculous which means that, if one is essential, people may tend to ignore it.

And parents aren't allowed to attend their childrens' school sports days this year.

Nor parents allowed to watch their pre-schoolers ‘graduate’ from nursery classes. sad

You must not go to Manchester or Salford because of high CV but it is fine to go to Dundee which has similar CV rates. You can’t visit Scotland even when you’re double-vaccinated if you come by cruise ship, not even if you live in Scotland, yet you can come on trains or coaches.

You can’t have more than 100 people at your wedding but you can gather with 5,999 other people in a football fan zone in Glasgow.

Its time to stop making these ridiculous rules.

Something my dd was complaining of when yesterday was allowed to take place. Crazy!

It's the wandering on threads I enjoy! I do have a butterfly brain, that probably explains why! wink

Threads invariably wander on GN Kali2. It has always been thus as you will discover.

Rather like chats with friends, sometimes it's impossible to remember how the conversation began.

Katek Sat 19-Jun-21 18:56:40

Picture doesn’t show the whole story- there were large bins just outwith this shot that they were filling with the smaller bags. Yes, several guidelines were broken, but please don’t label all the fans as louts.

Chardy

Wembley was only a quarter full and fans were all tested or double vaccinated

^Make sure you have your mobile match ticket, your ID (this should be the same as the identification you provided in the ticketing system), as well as yourface covering.Face coverings must be worn in the stadium complex at all times.

Proof of anegative Lateral Flow Test (LFT), reported and demonstrated via atext message or email from NHS Test and e screenshot or a printout. The test needs to be taken within48 hoursof the time stadium gates open. Orproof of full vaccination- both doses received at least 14 days prior to the match^

this is not what we are talking about- but the thousands who came without tests, face coverings, etc.

It is not football and the Euros which should be criticised then.
That is well organised.

It's the idiots who decide to travel despite Covid, without tickets, and leave behind a mess for others who are more responsible to clear up.

Alegrias's photo shows the responsible football fans, brought to an exciting match by a parent, presumably with tickets and attending within the rules and there are many like that.

The rest should have been herded up and sent back.
