So wish others would come off that sinking ship.

Would love Dominic Grieve to join Lib Dems.

Crikey. Cant say I think its particularly beneficial to Labour but I hope I am able to express that without mentioning his demise or being unpleasant about his appearance.

Hear! hear! LauraNorder, Order, order!!

Kali2 Sat 19-Jun-21 20:52:14

LauraNorder ''You stated that middle class and educated folk are beginning to no longer recognise the Tory party as a party with which we can identify.
This is simply untrue and I have a right to say that you do not speak for me. Nor do you speak for many party members of my acquaintance who are fully supportive of the current government.''

WWM2 never said she was speaking for you, and your acquaintances. But that this is clearly a provable fact that very many middle class and educated Tories are seriously questionning the direction Johnson is taking with the party. You are free to disagree- but does that mean you agree with that new direction? Isolationist, nationalistic, not to be trusted?

In which case, we are also free to come to our own conclusions. Thanks.

Par for the course on theses threads surely.

Personal remarks do degrade the debate- and there is no need for venom, ever.

Get over yourself. Much worse is said on here. Some tory haters think it's a larf to post pictures of swastikas when anyone dares to disagree with them.

I never thought I would vote anything other than Labour. The fact that that vile man has joined them just proves that I can never vote for them again.

Was John Bercow Tory then?? Didn't realise that°

It all depended what side of the bed he got out of as to what his politics were that day ?

Corisanda Sat 19-Jun-21 20:53:33

My comment 'if he lives that long' actually referred to the fact that I don't see Labour winning an election for some considerable time. If you're a Labour voter you will obviously disagree.

Totally agree with Laura's post.

Chewbacca Sat 19-Jun-21 20:57:50

LauraNorder your post @ 20.47 was absolutely 100% spot on, in every regard. Now that's been said, we can retreat and let the echo chamber take over.

MerylStreep Sat 19-Jun-21 21:02:46

Oh how true ? Perhaps we could add something now and then to give them something fresh to chew on ?

Kali2 Sat 19-Jun-21 21:23:46

So you have turned coat too, and come to the same conclusion as him, but t'other way round! Funny that.

''I never thought I would vote anything other than Labour. The fact that that vile man has joined them just proves that I can never vote for them again.''

Exactly what so many true blue one nation Tories are saying now, about Johnson and the ERG, and their 'vile' policies and abject failure to negotiate a working Deal.

Chewbacca Sat 19-Jun-21 21:41:06

Time will tell.....

M0nica Sat 19-Jun-21 21:44:49

Marmardoit perhaps, not having got a peerage from the Conservatives, he is hoping, wth a bit of luck he might get one from Labour.

This news is very fresh smile so I did think you would enjoy chewing on it, as it were.

He was a Tory for a VERY long time.

I have, btw, never been linked to anyone Party, and at one point a member of 3. Lib Dems, Greens and Labour. No Party loyalty from me. I would never take a whip, ever.

Nandalot Sat 19-Jun-21 21:55:36

Marmadoit, I have two questions for you.
Why do you feel John Bercow is a vile man? That is quite strong and I would be interested to hear your reasons.
Also, do you mean swastikas posted on GN? I have never seen any, thank goodness.

Chewbacca Sat 19-Jun-21 22:09:37

John Bercow has moved to Labour because there isn't room for two buffoons with an over inflated sense of their own importance in the Conservative party. Not a good decision to accept him by the LP imo.

NfkDumpling Sat 19-Jun-21 22:12:06

In an explosive interview with the Observer, Bercow says he regards today’s Conservative party as “reactionary, populist, nationalistic and sometimes even xenophobic”.

How can well educated middle-class people accept this? If they do, then, what can I say, they are part and parcel of this.

Sounds like he's describing himself.

Kali2 Sat 19-Jun-21 22:16:24

Like him or not, but NO it does not sound like him at all.

Callistemon Sat 19-Jun-21 22:27:55

When I said earlier he was correct I meant that he was correct that everyone had forgotten him and he needed to be back in the limelight.

LauraNorder I thought your post was justified in response to the rather sweeping statements made by other posters who assume they know how others think.
Or rather, how they think that other people think.

He was a Tory for a VERY long time.
Well, who'd have thought it? He hid it very well.

NfkDumpling grin

JenniferEccles Sat 19-Jun-21 22:31:50

The Labour Party is welcome to the slimy little Bercow.

I once got into trouble on here for saying I was a "floating voter", Kali2
Be careful!

I would never take a whip, ever.
I'm intrigued - are you an MP?
Now you've got me guessing

Eloethan Sat 19-Jun-21 23:30:06

I do have some sympathy for the people of Amersham having the HS2 routed through their locality. However, I don't have a great deal of sympathy for people living in pleasant rural areas who are immediately up in arms if there is mention of any sort of housing development.

As eazybee says, the result of this election was purely on the basis of self interest. I would have a lot more sympathy if some of these people thought about the other destructive policies of the Conservative Party that have hit the worst off the most. When all was well in their world, they trotted off to the polls and voted Conservative. No doubt they will return to the fold in due course.

Alegrias1 Sat 19-Jun-21 23:31:19

Did I miss the swastikas? ?

Next time somebody says the left wing are always spitting venom on those poor, selfless, patriotic Tories, I'll point them to this thread.

He does like the limelight, perhaps he thought everyone had forgotten him.

He was correct.

Could you give examples of Bercow behaving/speaking in a reactionary, populist, nationalistic or xenophobic way or are you just spitting venom?

Well Whitewavemark2 you don’t speak for this middle class, well educated Tory.

So what? 16,000 seem to have changed their minds about the Tories in an area that appears to be predominently well-educated middle class.
