I’m sure he has many admirable qualities, but am I the only one to see a resemblance?

Be angry at issues which really matter.

School firsts and lasts only happen once and they absolutely do matter!

Yes, they do matter, which is why money should have been invested in good ventilation and home computers when face-to-face learning was impossible.

But then GrannyGravy I have such a boring life!

Anyone any idea why GN are deleting my bumps when I try to get a thread to “register” at the correct place and time?

They’ve given no explanation?

Difficult to understand why parents cannot watch their children’s sports day but it’s perfectly ok for the same parents to stand together (no social distancing) before and after school everyday?

Why should they have to get a grip growstuff ?

I'm angry about unfairness generally, but concern for my own sanity and wellbeing means I don't let it eat me up.

Oh sorry, I think I misunderstood growstuff.

But I don't think people are jealous when they see crowds at these events nowadays, in the time of COVID, I think they are angry.

In that case, they need to get a grip.

I don't think anyone is jealous of the Wimbledon crowds are they?

Woman I used to work with planned all year to go to Wimbledon and managed to make it every year up until COVD came. She definitely wasn't well off and she definitely wasn't posh. She just really liked tennis confused

I like tennis too.

^My DC all went with school^
And two of them have new kitchens now!

Good for them! hmm

My point is that there are many people in the world who do without things they'd like and look on when others have them. None of it is fair.

So what is it? I don't suppose people are jealous of the Wimbledon crowds (because they probably couldn't have gone anyway) but they seem envious of people attending Wimbledon when they can't meet as a group. They're jealous that some people can do something they can't. I zone out. It's not fair, but so is much else in life not fair. Until very recently, I hadn't eaten out anywhere for years because I couldn't afford it. That's not fair either, but hey ho ...

Maybe one day he'll be as respected and modest as Dame Sarah Gilbert.

My cousin used to go every year and was not well off.
It was her annual big treat to herself.

maddyone I feel the same about crowds at Wimbledon and Ascot as I do when I read about people spending thousands on holidays, upgrading their kitchens/bathrooms or on cosmetic surgery/dental care. It's something I'd like to do, but it's not for me, so that's that - I find pleasures in life elsewhere. The green eyed monster never brings anything but pain.

love0c Mon 28-Jun-21 16:04:39

It is not unreasonable. Always question what you think is 'questionable'. Think for yourself, do not rely on others to tell you what to think. I always read up on a subject for myself before deciding what to do. You are then making an informed decision.

Alegrias1 Mon 28-Jun-21 16:01:35

I can understand to an extent why people see the crowds at Wimbledon or anywhere else and ask why they can't have seven to dinner. But on the other hand, this is a pandemic in the 21st Century. We've never had to navigate these waters before.

I just googled Wimbledon and there are a slew of rules about attending; testing (see later!), no queuing, no approaching players etc. We're in a situation where things are looking inconsistent but I'm living with it for now. The live events that we have had have shown that there is no evidence that crowds outside cause a spike in cases.

We've got a huge spike in cases in Scotland right now. My money is on it being people meeting up indoors and watching the football. We'll see.

As for testing, I've done a couple of LFTs for practice in case we ever have to do them to go to an event or something similar. You tell them its negative and then they send you an email saying you're negative. hmm Not the best system. But like case numbers, its a statistical thing. Over tens of thousands of people, its going to be right enough times to make it worthwhile.

If we do have to put up with restrictions for longer, then so be it. I don’t mind wearing a mask, I want to sanitise when I go out, but I refuse to use those unreliable lateral flow tests, precisely because they are unreliable, and I certainly wouldn’t report the results of an unreliable test to anyone. However, the difficulty is that we are watching thousands of people mingle freely at football matches and Ascot. It’s Wimbledon this week, and thousands more will be mingling there. I’m just looking at Wimbledon on television, NO social distancing at all! Two and a half thousand ‘officials’ are travelling to Britain to watch football and not having to quarantine at all. Well the way I see it, we either have restrictions or we don’t. Not one rule for me, and another for others. That is the way to huge discontent among the general population. It’s ridiculous that I’m looking at Wimbledon this moment and seeing people crammed into Court One with no distancing at all, but yesterday my family couldn’t take a party of seven into our local Italian restaurant. I cannot see how it’s unreasonable of me to be miffed about it.

The young are still very vulnerable. They haven’t been vaccinated, they can still catch covid and unfortunately will need hospitalisation in some cases, which of course leads to the scenario you have pointed out casdon

So many people don’t seem to care about the young, despite the fact that they are the ones who have suffered most in the pandemic.

I wish that fighting Covid hadn’t ended up a political argument. We should be led by scientists who understand how viruses work, both within populations and when different populations are allowed to mix. If their recommendations mean that we can do as we please, nobody would be happier than me. I don’t enjoy living with masks and social distancing, and really feel for young people who are missing out on so much.

If, on the other hand, the data suggests that we need to put up with restrictions for longer, I’d rather that than put the as-yet-unvaccinated at risk from those lucky enough to have had both jabs.
